In the original with just guitars, it sounds bleak and hopeless, but add the *Kick, Snare, Kick Kick Snare* Beat and it actually sounds like there's some hope in there, like a fight in the end of a movie and this plays when the protagonist starts to become stronger when they're at their lowest in battle.

This song would have been awesome as part of his original Quake Soundtrack back in 96. Quake, Natural Born Killers and The Lost Highway are some of my favorite contributions this man has had. It's rare to see some get multiple slots on a soundtrack and yet he did and was on so many other great movie OST no less.
