Piano Technique part 2. Arm and hand placement

Wonderful series. Just immensely enjoyed your Schubert films.
Do you have an opinion on the idea of the 2nd finger as the center of the hand, leading to a somewhat sideways hand with the thumb pointing forward (I think from Chopin)?
