    So glad you brought it up. Absolutely gobsmacked at the fact that the writers think it's attractive to have all of their male leads repeatedly sleeping with prostitutes before being with their lover girl. It's a real ick, and makes it so amusing when they go on to insist that they are 'gentleman'. Um, no. I think we've lost the definition of gentleman lmao

    We need a 12 episode season with the number of characters and plot lines we have, also if you don’t want to drop all the episodes at once, 1 episode a week would be so much better as this was fun but unsatisfying

      I keep rewatching Polin scenes after they kissed😂😅 like I just skip everything else it’s so useless! I hate that they keep jumping storyline to storyline. Like there are about 4 other relationships shown in this season. Like for effs sake, give them more scenes of longing for each other like Kanthony 🤦🏽‍♀️🤷‍♀️

    My problems so far:
    1. Colin and Pen are on the back burner on their own season. The scenes of them actually together probably wouldn't even be long enough to make one full episode length. And, that is making their relationship feel weirdly rushed.
    2. Their relationship is rushed- we go from her being angry with him to engaged in four episodes and they barely have any screen time. There is no romance building. Basically, we have a kiss (that feels a bit lackluster) and then Colin's dream then a few longing stares...right into the carriage scene. We get hardly any moments of them together just talking or showing any romance at all. Honestly, it's difficult to even tell Colin does have feelings for her other than the dream and a FEW stares. That's it. This is a romance show...where is the romance? The tension?! Season one did that FAR better with Daphne and Simon.
    3. Tension-- we all know that romance books are all about the tension. And we start out with GREAT tension at the beginning with Pen angry at Colin. However, that's quickly resolved with hardly any payoff. He barely apologizes and they really don't say much about it. It's swept under the rug so quickly. They missed a great opportunity to make Colin pine for her a bit and make him eat his words. And look at all the tension in the first two seasons. Every time the Duke and Daphne danced together. The moment he explains that she can touch herself. Then Kate and Anthony's entire thing is mainly tension. Yet, I felt very little with Colin/Pen. Why not have them dance together and him realizing he likes having her close after the kiss? Why not more conversations between the two where they are just enjoying each other's company? Heck, Colin flirted with everyone BUT Pen in this season.
    4. The Proposal- Everything was wrong. It was shot weird. The book had them going further in the scene. And their arguing and the fact that Colin was still upset with her added some spice to it and tension. But all that was removed. And Colin didn't look all that swept away. Pen certainly did, but Colin seemed like he was just kind of...there. Down to cracking a joke right when he pulls back. And then the proposal he smiles when he asks. In the book, he FRUSTRATED (in more ways than one) and that adds tension. For anyone that didn't read the book---this brooding like Anthony. Plus, the engagement feels better with him knowing her secret. He knows everything about he now and STILL wants her. Even knowing all that she's done. THAT is what proved he truly loves her. But here, he doesn't know and it feels wrong. Like when the Duke lied to Daphne in season one. And not good drama wrong. I mean, making Pen more villainous wrong. Plus, it doesn't convey the depth of his commitment to her without the reveal. I just hate it all.
    5. The ensemble element- It is getting ridiculous now. In season one they struck the perfect balance. The main focus was on Daphne's story. Everything else was just supporting. Season 2 they definitely crossed the line in extending the love triangle and it definitely took away from the main couple, but still---they were the focus for the most part. But, season 3 barely feels like the same show. It's truly an ensemble. There is NO FOCUS ON THE COUPLE. Heck, Jon and Fran seem to be better focused than Polin in this season, which is why I think everyone is enjoying their story more. But they are putting in stories that shouldn't even have a place. Why are the Mondrichs still even in the show? And why are we showing Benedict with the random woman. We've seen him with randoms constantly. No need to show it again this season. And we don't NEED to fall in love with Jon/Fran because they aren't even an HEA. Their story doesn't matter. We don't need to treat it like it does.
    Imo, these people need to hire several romance writers as consultants. They don't know how to write for ROMANCE. They are just concerned with writing an ensemble period piece and it's lacking everything. Season one was a great representation of romance. Season two messed up in a lot of ways, but it was still fairly solid. Season 3 is a total breakdown of the genre. And...it's boring!!

    • @renuzui
      @renuzui 4 месяца назад +3

      Well....I do SOMEWHAT agree. I definitely think that they are trying to juggle too many plot points at once this season and that it does detract a bit from Colin and Penelope’s story.
      I previously also felt that things seemed a little rushed this season, however I’ve since changed my mind after reading some more takes on season 3. Tbh, I have not read any of the books. I only know what I’ve seen online (which includes just random spoilers I’ve read + random passages ppl have posted from the books) as well as what I read from the prologue (I only got to read the first half of it).
      But if you think about it, Polin’s story is not rushed at all. It may seem that way at first-especially given season 2 where Kate and Anthony were most definitely a slow burn-but we have been watching these two specific characters already now for 3 seasons. And they even had a pre established friendship before the start of the show. We don’t need to take the whole season to watch them get to know more about each other because they ALREADY know everything about each other lol. And I think that’s probably the reason why there’s a lack of tension-at least in the romantic sense. We don’t really need to see them dancing around each other or have a buildup to them falling in love. We’ve already known that Penelope has had feelings for Colin since they first met. And obviously the first half of this season focused way more on the fact that Colin was realizing his feelings...or rather coming to terms with them, in my opinion. After all, he’s always loved and cared for Penelope. He holds her and her friendship in such high regard. The only thing they didn’t have was a physical connection, but that changed when they kissed. Especially for Colin. It was like everything connected and suddenly made sense to him. His feelings clearly go beyond that of mere friendship.
      In any case, I would also like to point out that Daphne and Simon also get together within the span of 4 episodes. The only thing that differs Polin from the other two ships is that they have known each other much longer (again, why we do not get much buildup this season-we’ve already had two other seasons that established their relationship). So I do not think the main problem this season was that the romance was rushed. I do, however, believe they are trying to introduce too many storylines at the same time and trying to tackle them all at once lmao.
      And, not a huge thing, but personally I am resentful of the fact that you felt the kiss was “lackluster” or that Colin did not look “swept away” enough during the carriage scene lmao. Those were two of my favorite scenes and imo both Nicola and Luke did a great job with those.

    So far, I don’t like it, in the book, Penelope was older more confident, she wasn’t dwelling on not being married, she was at that point in her life where she knew it was a possibility that she might not get married, she was going on with her life, she wasn’t doing this pity party that they got her doing in the series. I like the books better.

    The trouble with a friends to lovers story is unlike daphne and Simon or Kate and Anthony, there is no getting to know about each other part of the story, so thematically it makes sense this feels quicker, although I would have love to have seen Colin Green with jealousy for a while longer,
    But I expected the lady whistledown reveal was gonna be a big part of their story (I haven't read the books so I'm truly uninformed)
    so I'm gonna wait and see how part 2 plays out that should be when the real drama kicks in

    • @raidahblossom
      @raidahblossom 4 месяца назад +5

      The thing is though, the show kept doing this thing of TELLING us that they were really close rather than showing it to us, and if you didn’t feel the closeness between them in previous seasons (like myself for instance, I’ve always seen Polin as this one sided ‘best friend’s brother who’s just kind of indifferent about me but does care for my safety in general’ kind of dynamic instead of two very close friends) that means the build up is necessary just to further expand upon their friendship so that the penny dropping moment is more effective, and the romance doesn’t feel like it’s rushed or coming out of nowhere.
      No matter how well we’ve established two characters’ relationship, in a show where the main couple each season needs the primary focus they will always need to be given more depth, especially if stepping up from side characters to main characters and with the show distancing them for a bit and giving arguably more focus to side plots, that results in the friends to lovers just not hitting the way it should.

    I thought there was no way this season could be bad, but I was surprised. What was the need for the story of the bar couple, the widow for Benedict, Penelope's family (last season was already enough), a possible love interest for Violet, a lot of Francesca (that's not her season, is it?)? I think everything would make sense if there were more episodes, but that's not the case here. The little bit of each micro-story takes up a lot of screen time from the main couple, and this cools down or reduces the depth of Polin, giving the feeling that it was rushed. I think they should have followed the books if they can't link all the stories in the time they have. Oh, Debling... what a waste of potential.

      I think it’s because they changed enough from the books that they couldn’t really use a decent chunk of the actual Polin book and were scrambling. Penelope spends a relevant amount of time in that book having dinner with the Bridgertons - which, they kind of shot her relationship with Eloise. They sped up the timeline to where other parts of the book aren’t necessarily relevant - this book takes place nearly a decade after the first book - and Penelope doesn’t feel like a spinster in the same way because of it. And the significance of the Lady Whistledown mystery is more lackluster because they kind of killed the intrigue for it and had it revealed already

    It felt very split up. A little bit of everyone having a bit of story line and not alot of focus. Im kind of hoping it narrows in on just one or 2 stroy line progressions. I was kind of hoping for some more longing and tension for polin. Rather than obvious looks and then jumping right into it. Not enough build up IMO. Plus I know they are going to create drama for the couple in the next half. - y can't they just have a trouble free friends to lovers story - there is always stress. And it stresses me out.
    (BTW Loved Eloise & Cressida storylines.)
    I actually really liked the new love interest for pen and thought their story and getting to know each other & chemistry was much more believable. Would have been nice to see polin have more conversations together - about his travels and what she had been up to. Thier bond was implied but they didn't seem to build on that relationship at all. It still felt young, situational and superficial - rather than a deep true friendship.
    Didn't like bennidicts story line felt very tacked on, which I guess fits well as his lack of purpose in life was translated through the screen with his story line.
    I feel bad for Poor Cressida - she tries so hard but never lands the man it seems....well not so far anyway.

    I enjoyed most of Colin and Pens parts but I feel like this season 3 feels like a filler season before Benedicts season comes. They missed out a lot of important character development parts! Penelope meant to behave like she doesn't know how to kiss a man. Why was she doing it so perfectly in the show??? In the book she stays still while Colin kisses her and then he stops and tells her you know kissing is for two people so you need to kiss me back so the second time she kisses him back. Can you imagine that tension and chemistry if we saw that on screen!!! Ahhh and he's meant to be infuriated with Penelope when she's reading his journal entry. They didn't linger on that feeling long enough and when he cuts his hand he's meant to tell her he's fine and push her away because he's still embarrassed about her reading his private thoughts but she pushes and insists on taking care of his cut. It happened so fast that scene probably only took 1 minute??? And then when the two people were dancing like swans I believe at Queens ball, the guy looked similar to Colin the hair and the body build and Pen knew she was going to her proposed to by Debling but while she was watching the two people dance it looked like she was thinking of Colin and her long lasting love for him and whether she was making a big mistake as she hadn't told her feelings to him and given the situation a chance because what if he did like her back. So that moment they should have replaced the dancers for a moment with Pen and Colin dancing together like swans. Oh and the carriage scene when he's running after her imagine showing him struggling to catch up to the carriage so much more dramatic like what if she gets away!! They just focused on Pen in the carriage upset most likely because it was fake and green screen and in a studio so they can't show him running after carriage but come on there's a way around it take the carriage outdoors then we only need to see 2 or 3 seconds of him struggling after the carriage

      honestly, while it made me sad for her it makes sense that Penelope would write about herself this way. She's very hard on herself, and after being embarrassed so badly the night before, of course she would believe that her actions were stupid and ridiculous. also, it would look suspicious if lady whistledown wasn't hard on her, since she's hard on basically every person in the ton. if lady W gave her some grace, the ton might follow, but Penelope can't take that risk, and already thinks those awful things about herself to begin with.

      Probably also because after almost losing Pen to another man before, he has realized there is NO WAY in hell he would ever be able to watch her marry anyone else. He’s not gonna make that mistake again. He knew he was gonna ask her himself so he allowed himself to go further with her because once she admitted she wanted him too, that’s it. She was his. He also asked for consent the whole way if you pay attention. He asked to be let in the carriage and didn’t go in until she said yes, he waits to kiss her until she admits her feelings for him, and before he puts his hand up her dress 🙈
      he stops and looks to her. You see Penelope nod to him and THEN he continues. He is still a gentleman.❤‍🔥

    I couldn’t agree more with what you’ve said. I was so excited for Polin season, and while I loved it, it just feels like something is missing from part one, and I can’t place what it is. I enjoyed the side plots, but sometimes I feel like there’s sometimes too many to fit in an eight episode season. The side plots often take away from the main couple, and that was my biggest issue with season 1. Nicola and Luke did well with what they were given but there wasn’t much time for development and everything felt rushed. I did love the end of episode 4 though! I hope part two is better, but again feels like we will have a lot going on with the Lady Whistledown reveal. I genuinely feel like Nicola and Luke’s interviews sold the season more than the actual season.

      @lifeofehs Genuinely curious... what was romantic? Pen flirting with Colin 1 time or the 1 kiss they shared which Colin turned into a sexual thing? Oh and Colin didn't even flirt with her once. Not even once. cause in season 1 and 2 we got the emotional connection before they ever shared a kiss. Sure pen and colin are friends and he cares for her and she does the same for him, but I don't think that even before they shared a kiss that Colin ever even came to terms with recognising his actual feelings for her. The talk with his mother couldn't have possibly been the catalyst for all that. The kiss would have been romantic if he hadn't dreamed about getting off to it. I'm just hoping that Pen gets revealed as whistledown before they get married and THEN he has to be like "Oh I really love pen and I cannot live without her and I need her in my life safe and unharmed, and if she gets exposed I WILL DIE, so I am going to do everything in my power to help her" or something along those lines.. otherwise pen would be going into this marriage with lies and deceitness and Believe me when I say I'm a pen fan and a diehard one at that but this season is actually killing my love for the bridgerton writers for understanding why people love enemies to lovers but somehow missing the whole point and reason for why people love friends to lovers...

It seems like Portia really is trying to do what she thinks is best for Penelope, even though she's totally off base, and she did look upset when Penelope confronted her at the ball after she didn't get a proposal. I've just always found the Featheringtons to be fun and tacky and hilarious, each to their own :)

Penelope telling him she wants to read more might lead to an ah ha moment that he could turn his journal into something. It’s better imo than how it developed in the book. I also like that Collin doesn’t know about Whistledown yet. I’m glad I get to be surprised! And honestly it fell flat in the book when there were essentially no consequences so I’m curious to see how that goes.
    Oh and super agree on the random threesomes and need for the lead to have brothel seggs before they profess love. It’s overdone.
    Excited for part 2… annoyed we have to wait weeks!

    I really liked that we are seeing more of Cressida as far as her living situation with her parents and the pressures she is under. I feel like she was taught to scheme and be insincere by her parents. I’m also worried about how Colin will find out Penelope is Last Whistledown and when. Based on the trailer for part 2, there’s going to be a reward to hunt her down and unmask her identity and Colin is taking that seriously. I hope they are able to talk it out and enter marriage with all secrets laid bare so there’s no animosity.

    tbf they had referenced Colin writing letters to people a lot in the past, maybe they thought they had set up his writing through that? But that may not have been clear enough of a link I guess :/

    Idk if benedict being the lead in season 4 is a good idea. His book has story beats that’s already been done. Cinderella plot points. Damsel rescuing herself from would-be rapist. Illness/ nursing love interest.

    This season assumes people have read the book....it doesn't explain certain things like Colin loving writing and assumes we should all know this from the book. A few other things are assumed as well....more time should have been spent on Colin and pen rather then other characters to reveal more about them.

      I think the producers knew the lead actors chemistry was weak at best and tried to create a lot around them to make the show entertaining. Colin's soft voice and lack of charisma is a huge downfall.

    They have to show that they are rakes. That why it shows the multiple sex with others. The books could just say it and not explain but apparently TV requires breasts to be shown and everything spelled out clearly.

    If you remember in season one we see, it in flashback, that Lady Danbury was forced to marry Lord Danbury by her brother. He brought her over to England and left her there. Lord Danbury was not an ideal husband. This may have been in the Queen’s story.

    I am not happy with the fact that John Stirling is black. The actor is very nice but they should have chosen rather an Asian man! And in season 4 Benedict's love interest is black again! It's becoming boring!

  • @koa64
    @koa64 4 месяца назад +1

    Watching episode 1 and I'm bored already. The actor playing Colin has the personality and charisma of a turnip, along with a high-pitched soft voice that is not appealing. Penelope has some spark to her but the chemistry between the two lead actors is seriously lacking and that's made even more evident when you see the two small scenes with Kate and Anthony that literally pop off the screen. The whole feel of the show and the dialogue is off too, it's not witty or charming like the other seasons.
