the best diamonds are hidden... so like daniel rossen genial music will only be know to a rare few that appreciate good music. like elliott smith, no one know elliott, but he is a legend.
I love this version of the song. I like it much better than the version on the album. This just has a more focused and mysterious quality. Thanks for posting.
Much of Rossen's work and performances are surrounded in ethos. Although the layperson wouldn't know much of him, the so called "respected figures" of the indie music industry all regard Rossen with an even higher level of respect.
I came home after a long day of work and sat down at my computer with a glass of red wine. The warmth of the wine spread through my body getting all mixed in with this song.
I have been waiting for this album for 3 years! Daniels brilliance is evident in how you help transform Grizzly's sound. But between Daniel and Fred, the sound is transcendent.
@slitheringinterstate I'm fine with where he's at, it's probably only helping his music along. and he already is a legend in my mind. I don't see anything wrong with where he's at, those who know his music understand his brilliance, and that's as much as I would care about if I were him!
@slitheringinterstate I have named it "Baroque Pop" much in the same line as Rufus Wainwright and very few others. The chords he uses are very much the same as I used in all my writings when first teaching myself to play music on guitar cuz it was easier to sing with that than my piano....i just made up chords, jamming my fingers together in weird shapes...i saw the music in shapes and heard what i wanted in my head. i think he may do the same.just a thought.very keen of you to spot this as well
woah woah woha.... This guy is from Grizzly Bear isn't he? I thought he was because of seeing the vintage instruments and his short chin.. But then when he sang I knew it was him... I dont know his name but he sings "while you wait for the other" and this song is the same folk style and everything. Thatd be insane if that wasn't him.... Whats he doing with another band? Im itching for a wiki visit
Grizzly yes, in fact major influence on whole album. Why it sounds and has so many textures akin to Grizzly. I love DoE and yet this one really a lot of credit to Griz.
weirdly i prefer this version very pure without any arrangement (though they're great), acoustics are just appropriate and his voice sounds very honest compared with the studio version
This is very true. And yet too, disgracefully because they have had the misfortune to have been placed into a generalized category such as indie, RUclips believes that I'm going to want to listen to "A-Punk." Truly abhorrent.
Jimmy Page didn't grow up a jazz guitarist. If only Led Zeppelin used diminished and 6th chords and other stuff that actually makes pop music interesting...

This guy is as big as he needs to be. I also think people forget his huge success in Grizzly Bear sometimes.
I am so depressed that I am never going to see them perform this in person.
It just makes me so sad :( They are so amazing.
Why are they gone ?
El gran Daniel Rossen ! Increíble manera de tocar su guitarra al mismo tiempo que brota esa estupenda voz !
Kudos to the sound guy. This song sounds better here than it does anywhere else. Good job, dude or ma'am.
i practically want to implode with the gravity generated by my love for this recording.
very nice-
like the way the guitars parts interact-
never heard of these guys before but again, I am finding artistic gems on youtube-
bravo

Aww i wanted to see him play the awesome flamenco part...

SUPER pumped for this album.
AHHH my ears. his voice is like GOD LOL. i get goosebumps when he screams or his voice is louder.
god i love this song!!!!!
these are the kind of bands that sound so much better live.
God I love this man
Perfection.
Awesome, thanks!
The tremolo adds a certain effect to it. I love both versions, but still my favorite is the album version.
i love this band and grizzly bear, is so amazing
David Bowie would be glad to make beautiful music like this.
Love him :-)
that was really good
i actually like this version much much much better than the album!
@slitheringinterstate he definitely gets the credit he deserves, at least within indie circles.
@lll991 He also plays in a band called Grizzly Bear. They are the best thing around in a long time.
Can't believe this video is over 10 years old...
the heart wants what the heart wants.
this is fucking incredible
Can't stop listening to this version. Does anyone know if it's downloadable?
lol at the end, Daniel is like "hmm, that wasn't bad"

@lll991 His name's Dan Rossen, and he's one of my favorite musicians.
yeah it's him. dan rossen. good eye.
Yes,Daniel Rossen
this song is amazing. a song about his fathers death.

I agree this is a better version, despite the album version being pretty lovely too!
is that one of the band members from Grizzly Bears?

those are the proper chords!
its him, Daniel Rossen
BHANG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
lunch was good? what was for lunch?
"in ear park, it's like a park in your eaaar"
@createanomaly he's educated in music. i believe he majored in music at a university.
Anyone know what's up with Rossen's tunnings?

Gah! Where can I find an mp3 of this?
anyone know what guitar the other guy (not daniel rossen) is playing?
Hey, don't be hating on Vampire Weekend! At least not their first album.
@moondog202001
Ever heard of RUclips downloader??
It will do the work:)
What sculpture? Do they mean Aural Sculpture from The Stranglers? Was that a "real" sculpture?
what kind of guitar is he playing? Sounds like a dolcimer but I'm not sure
guy on left, Guild and guy on right, Gibson
Kind of reminds me of Nick Drake... which is a good thing.
@flibberjar Then I think I make up the other three quarters!
the host at the beginning sounds like Ed
w/e freshman.... btw lunch was good eh

I'm not going to write a "missed the like button" comment, but I would like to know how 33 people sincerely disliked this...
@DaRellReeves They got lost in Ear Park.
Jimmy Page didn't grow up a jazz guitarist.
If only Led Zeppelin used diminished and 6th chords and other stuff that actually makes pop music interesting...
some weird comments here. like violent comments....
