  • St. Paul's Cathedral in London, England features one of the highest and largest domes in the world, which is recognizable for miles around. It has been the location of many famous funeral services including those of Sir Winston Churchill and Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, and British war heroes the Duke of Wellington and Admiral Nelson. Princess Diana and Prince Charles were married here. It's one of my favorite places to visit in London because it reminds me of Old London, since it was built in the late 17th century after the Great Fire of London in 1666. Aside from a few other highlights of the exterior, the interior is quite ornate and beautiful, featuring a long nave, an impressive high altar and organ, and stunning mosaics. After we see the interior of the cathedral, we will see the largest crypt in Europe, featuring the gravestones of many dignitaries. As you will see, if you visit London, a visit to St. Paul's Cathedral is a must!

    The tomb that Nelson now lies in was intended for Cardinal Wolsey, but as he was out of favour with Henry 8th when he died, Henry decided to have the tomb for himself, however when he died, he was buried in a vault in St George’s Chapel Windsor, where he remains (every pun intended!! 🤦) to this day.

    There was a wedding in the church down in the undercroft of the cathedral when we visited 2 years ago. It was stunning! The history is unspeakable as it seems like a dream both horrible and beautiful at the same time. We are a spit in the ocean of history.

      The current cathedral is the fourth built on this site, the recognised first Bishop of London dating back to AD 604. Before this time it was used by the Romans, with Romano British Bishops dated to at least AD 314. It is very old for so many reasons.

      What does that have to do with St Paul’s Cathedral? It’s an Anglican cathedral.

      I did not claim Princess Diana's funeral was here-I said Princess Diana and Prince Charles were married here. Watch the beginning again.

      Thank you! Funny you should ask. I always try to film even when it's prohibited-I can't help myself! When I see something amazing, I want a video record of it. In this case, I saw some people standing in the middle of the cathedral filming, so I took a chance. I would discreetly film no more than a few seconds at a time, then quickly hide my camcorder. I saw their security cameras up above, but worse case scenario is that they would have asked me to stop and I would have.

    they copied the vatican style of Saint Peter but this one doesn't look like a church, it looks more like a palace, they have a lot of tombs, few Christians stuff.

    • @MercurialRed9

      Not true. Have you ever been inside? There are cherubim and seraphim carvings everywhere, as well as carvings, mosaics and paintings of saints, apostles, Our Lord. Lots of Biblical symbolism and imagery.

    • @MercurialRed9
      @MercurialRed9 2 года назад

      Also if you look at the cathedral from above it’s in the shape of a cross. We don’t have any palaces in England that look like St Paul’s.
