please keep em coming along these lines.. charming boat, owner, good interview.. onboard cam going as you sailed.. good shots down below.. like the drink in hand casual conversation .. no bs.. just straight out good share .. thank you much ! Canyon
I am the previous owner and namer of 'Ammonite,' which I kept at Wolverstone on the River Orwell. I have had a number of boats over the years, gaff cutters and clipper-bowed ketches, and I can say that 'Ammonite' is one of THE most seaworthy boats for her size that I ever sailed. Glad to see after all these year that she is still in reasonably good shape, though I note a variety of changes since my time (I sold her in 2001). I bought her from a then-popular 'Classic Boat' journalist in Cornwall named 'Gavin Davies.' He had done TERRIBLE things to the boat, with all sorts of asymetrical fittings all over the place, the boat was painted bottle-green with a GLOSS bottle-green paint-job on top of the coachroof (VERY slippery), and the entire cockpit was painted 'swimming-pool blue!' I had the boat professionally refurbished in Southwold (HMS Buckley), with an entirely new paint-job of black and cream, replaced the cabin sole with white oak, redid the galley area (all that nice tiling), and redid all of the cockpit too, plus a lot of wooden blocks for the rig, etc, etc, etc. Cost a bomb! What happened to the teak planked and seamed cockpit seating I had installed at such great effort an expense??
Just sold my last boat a few months ago, a Fuji 35 clipper-bowed ketch designed by John Alden that I owned for about 16 years that I named 'Veteran.' Same 'house colors' as 'Ammonite.' I have some health problems involving my hands, so I am not sure if I will get another boat. If I do, it will something much smaller in the 20' range, perhaps a catboat, or Noank sloop... @@myclassicboat9083
@@myclassicboat9083 Oh, and by the way, I named the Heard 23 'Ammonite,' because it was the first present I gave my eventually-to-become wife, Caroline. We were walking along the beach at Southwold, and a fossil ammonite had washed out of the bluff. I thought it was a good name for that boat, since it was a beautiful sea-going fossil as well!
Might be tricky for you, as i now live in Rhode Island, on the shores of the Sakonnet, but if I do get another boat, I will keep you in mind.@@myclassicboat9083
Great video and great boat and also I like it listen to violin . Thank you for the video. I am from the garden island of Kauai, located in North Pacific ,tropical paradise always warm year around . I am sailing alone around the world. All my photos on my Facebook page. Always welcome on my page .
I don't know if it is still the same, but time was you could find your way into Stornaway in fog simply by following the stench from the kipper factory. I like kippers, but that used to be something else.
I'm a liveaboard in Cornwall. If anyone near me created such a caterwauling cacophony anywhere within earshot I'd ensure his boat sank. That racket was nauseating.
