Elvis grew up dirt poor in a white ghetto next door to a black ghetto. He would cross the tracks as a very young child to play with the children and sing with black Baptist church choirs. He was so poor that he lived in a TWO ROOM home built by his father and had just two light bulbs. When they lost that house they moved around from state project to project which were upgrades to how he lived before. Elvis knew the truest form of poverty. And he never forgot his roots. He wanted harmony between races and figured he could help by setting an example in some of his movies in the 60s and music throughout his life. But amazingly he never got political and never said "HELLO IM AN ACTIVIST." And I think that's what made Elvis SUCH a powerful voice. He really meant it and it showed. He knew of no other way.
Hon, Elvis grew up in the Ghetto. Dirt, Dirt poor. He didn't write this...but he was going to sing it no matter what anyone said. He ALWAYS knew his roots.
Beautiful Reaction! It was obvious, from your facial expressions, that you had not heard this song before. It was obvious, from your comments, that you listened to the words of this song. It was obvious, from your reaction, that Elvis has a new fan!
I've learned to love Elvis. When I was growing up, I thought he was just an old singer that my mother loved. But I've since learned to appreciate the trailblazer he was. His style was different, his energy was different and he was technically brilliant. But more than that, he embraced everyone. He was a force for social change and he let his faith teach him to accept people, when so many others used it for division and exclusion.
Great reaction, hope you continue getting goosebumps with more Elvisreactions. Can you please react to Elvis Presley live song If I Can Dream, from his 68 Comeback Special, choose the white suit version.
Thank you for your great reaction to this very sad song. But that is what happens when you speak the truth. Like you said, we should not judge people until we have walked a mile in their shoes. Like the old story says, what do you say about the man who steals a loaf of bread from the store in order to feed his starving children? Stay good!
You should check out the video called "Elvis & the Black Community." It's pieces of interviews with people who knew him & such, and it gives you a great sense of his character.
Sincere reaction to a humble performance 👏 And how sad is it that this song is still relatable to this day? Elvis grew up in poverty, his father was in prison for 6 years and he and his mother lived in a shack - dirt poor, in the ghetto. He was close to the black community and loved going to their local church to sing gospel. You should react to 'If I Can Dream' his MLK tribute performance - ruclips.net/video/u-pP_dCenJA/видео.html - Elvis was devastated by MLK's murder. People tried to stop him from performing the song because it was too 'controversial'. But he went ahead & PASSIONATELY performed it on his special just 2 months after MLK's murder. Elvis himself was part Native American - he didn't see colour, he saw people. A true Gentleman who never forgot his roots........he's still the King 👑
