Four as a matter of face. I still remember the Red Green Live pledge drives every March, and every year, Iowa Public Television came in first to their target and first overall. We in Illinois did fairly well ourselves, but none could beat IPTV, though Salt Lake came close in '99.
Iowa Public TV brought four busses of fans to Toronto for the recording of the Twinning show and I was part of that group. The recording took place on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend in 2000. The "Lodge" is on the 10th floor of the CBC tower. They recorded the show before two different audiences then stitched the best reactions into a single episode. The pre-taped intro and various outdoor segments are played on monitors in the studio and the live audience reactions are recorded and added to the show. They needed seats for the second taping's audience so I got to watch that taping from the studio's control room and that was pretty hectic. An interesting weekend bracketed by two long bus rides.
That's awesome, do they film everything in order or do they do stuff like the Word Game after or before the main plot segments? I've heard most of the campfire song clips were all done in one day for the first few seasons
@@smokesletsgo2374The show is recorded in pretty much the same order they are presented during the episode. It starts with the welcome scene that sets the topic of the episode. When that is done, a pre-recorded outdoor segment is played on the monitors to capture a live audience reaction. While the video plays, the crew are prepping the lodge set as needed for the next scene. The word game or other in-studio scenes then alternate with the pre-recorded bits until they get to the lodge meeting closing scene. Most of the the outdoor scenes are recorded in advance on the same day to get as many bits in the can and ready as possible while the cast and crew are in the same place at the same time. When a episode is prepped to air, the pre-recorded segments from several different taping sessions are inserted into the studio segments as needed to full out the show's allotted length. The pre-recorded outdoor segments we viewed and reacted to during the recording of episode 200 were actually used in other episodes.
I'm so glad this popped into my feed. This show was a staple of my childhood. Growing up in West Virginia, I knew people that used some of his handyman techniques. It was entertaining at the very worst.
... Are there any other inveterate watchers of The Red Green Show that feel a vague twinge of melancholy when you hit that episode that speaks to you as closer-to-the-end-than-the-beginning? 🤔🇨🇦😌
This was on Iowa Public Television every Saturday afternoon and evening many years ago, and fans loved it (myself included), and STILL do to this very day. No wonder this show has retained its popularity over the years.
During the national pledge drives for RGS, Iowa Public Television was always the first to reach the goal, and usually surpassing it by five or six times by the end of the pledge drive.
“There was an anger issue between me and the border the guard: I had one and he didn’t. And that lead to an authority issue where he had some and I didn’t.” 😆
At 11 minutes talks about kids and parents, when you have kids, you come to realize that everything your dad ever yelled at you about when you were growing up, dad was right.
A middle-aged man in a plaid shirt using hockey equipment (hockey-tape included) to go fishing, you can't get more Canadian than that. It's pretty much how we adapt up here.
When it comes down to it there really isn't that much of a difference between us and the Canadians except for the different flags lol.@@markceciljr1354
If you notice, the Fake Red at the end of the episode is wearing Harold's old suspenders. Red's are green and red crossed at the back, while Harold's always had three red and one green.
I love all seasons of red green (1997-2000 is awesome) but I love the later seasons for being able to show wackier stuff and make dirtier jokes. I wish Red and the guys had the same control over the show when they were younger
I was a part of the Iowa lodge only a year later but still one of my favorite episodes I am a man I can change if I have to I donated a bunch of money to Iowa Public Television
Stay clear of that clean up crew, and stay farther away from those that send you there. Remember, a doctors job is " to find something wrong with you". Keep your stick on the ice and always get second and third opinions, then study and make your own decisions. No one has as much to lose as you do.
Yeah, it would. But Iowa wasn't chosen randomly, it was Iowa Public Television's continued devotion to the series as seen in beating every other PBS station in the Red Green Live pledge breaks every single year. Always the first to reach their target, always the highest above their target even against their bitter rivals, KUED of Salt Lake City. I think, in fact, that this was shown on IPTV even before it was shown on CBC.
Mike's stand-in, Mark, isn't nearly as slick as he. It would have taken longer for Red to notice his wallet missing. He wouldn't have caught it in Mike's hand. It seems nonsense that Mike got caught so many times, except that he's probably the only criminal in the area so he's the only suspect of every crime.

Iowa and possum lake is twinned and Red Green makes a way to remove the stumps using small Cessna ✈ and Red also makes fishing gear out of hockey gears while ranger gord makes an abduction video
I know Patrick McKenna was gone trying is luck in Holly and Toronto wood . But you'd think they'd have enough material instead of those too long Ranger Gord "educational films" too fill in time .
Red's a strange character. Virtually all men hate some men, but its a very strange man that hates all men, and he runs a cult out in the Canadian wilderness composed entirely of other weirdo men who agree with him.
Is that some kind of joke I'm not getting? It doesn't make any sense, He "hates ALL other men" but also "has a cult" full of "other weirdo men who agree with him"? Where do you get the strange idea he hates anyone else to start with??
They're not! I'm a woman and I love this show! (& I'm not the only one!) He jokes a lot about marriage (if you've been in one for any length of time you know you HAVE to have a sense of humor about it or you'll never last and both Red and the guy who plays him were married for decades!) He also makes a lot of jokes about the things men do that women have to put up with. What are you 1 of these ridiculous people that goes around just looking for something to be offended about?!
It's hard to find a show that can make you laugh practically the whole time these days
best show for sure
2:06. I'll bet you there were a lot of Iowans in the studio audience judging by the enthusiastic response.
I wish we had gotten to see more of the funeral director. That guy was hilarious.
I actually got to meet the guy who plays Douglas Hudson. We actually work in the same postal plant in Iowa.
I actually do love the Ranger Gord cartoons.
They're my favorite too!
My favourite part is that in real life the cartoon critters are actually right even if they are wrong in the cartoon lol
the cartoons are great and educational
Both of my parents were from Iowa. I love this episode. (I feel like the state was picked as a result of a PBS pledge drive...)

I started watching this when I moved from home in the mid 90s. Fell in love.
Far and away the best ending in the history of The Red Green Show!
"THIS" is the best Red Green episode ever.
This episode had to be Steve Smith's favorite. Among many.

PBS carried the show everywhere 🤨
What part of Iowa did/do you live in. The Des Moines IPTV, showed The Red Green Show on Fridays before Sci-Fi Friday night.
I grew up in the Milo area, which is roughly an hour's drive from Des Moines.
It was popular in Utah too.

This episode was a big shoutout to Iowa since Iowa PBS was the biggest supporter of the Red Green Show here in America.

In the south they use their hands and arms to catch catfish, and we Americans make fun of Canadians

The last time Iowa was mentioned was when Red and Harold were covered in creamed corn after (another explosion); Harold had a righteous punchline!
What did he say? It looked like Iowa exploded?
I think that was when they painted some silos to look like crayons.
Yes Iowa would fit right in. They are also full of corn. LOL :o)
If you notice, the Fake Red at the end of the episode is wearing Harold's old suspenders. Red's are green and red crossed at the back, while Harold's always had three red and one green.
FWIW Red wore both depends on the episode. some are crossed red and green in the back and some are Y shaped with a red band coming off the right side.
Great show makes me smile
I think part of the reason this episode was made was because PBS viewers in Iowa LOVE the show.
Wisconsin and Minnesota do too
