you are lucky , around where I am at so many people have laying hens that the price of fresh free range eggs is in the toilet , costs more to feed and keep them than you get selling the eggs . regretting putting in a new batch this year I should have gone with my gut feeling I had before I replaced mine and just got enough for myself instead
Bought my first cow with egg money while in grade school. Got 7 cents a doz at the local co-op. Now pressed to get $2.00. Small flock but feeds all the kids and grand kids and provides a FFA project for a grandaughter. Never been with out a flock these past 70yrs, cant see the day when we don't. Great way to experience the realities of livestock care, and financing. Best of luck.
True, true. They're a great way to get a feel for animal husbandry, for folks that weren't born into agriculture. I recommend it to friends looking at starting self sufficient lifestyles. You can learn a great deal about livestock from these feathered little velociraptors. I get $4/dozen for my eggs now. It's barely enough to cover the feed bill on 6 hens. I need to find a buddy with a feed mill. Field corn, barley, and soybeans are only about $5 per bushel. Much more economic.
Eggcelent video! The chickens were sure eggcited to be fed. The new chickens look eggceptionaly well. Good thing they are being taken care of by an eggspert! Sorry, I couldn’t help the puns. 😂
Thats a good idea build a coop on a wagon. A healthy life for the birds and better eggs for humans. Did you buy someone else out. I think your way is the best to raise chickens all around better food for us. Thanks your hard work videos great.
@@boehmfarm4276 yes I've seen in your videos your other ones. Was wondering do they lay eggs outside much and do you have issues with Hawks or fox coyotes??
Hows the 1000 hens doing, Was wondering if you are going to do a update video on if they are laying and where do you get rid of 80 dozen eggs a day wow.
What flavor of chickens are they? I just bought 12 Delaware Whites for my 5 year old. I dont know much about that breed but it will be something for him to get started with.
@ 4:50 that is the biggest bucket of chicken I've ever seen! Don't know much about raising chickens, but after reading the description, is the labor involved for 1,000 chickens about the same as the labor for 40 steers? I'm guessing chickens = more labor but also a higher ROI and quicker cash flow. My banker man says its all about the cash flow.
Feeding is about the same, eggs need collecting and washing, and the fences are moved. Cattle need the manure hauled and trailered to market. I hate the cows when it's barn cleaning time and I hate the chickens on fence moving day. At least a five pound chicken can't run you over.
My Americana's had crooked beaks too...at least 50% of them. We allowed inferior genetics to reign supreme somewhere in previous generations. That's the only breed I've had issues with beaks. Be well Jacob! Here's to a great season for you guys.
One of the few channels that doesn't push, peddle or promote something. Thank you, Jacob!
Would anyone Really want me to advertise something for them??? Lol

It's hard to sell them locally because everyone out here has a dozen chickens and too many eggs they just give away.

I built one a couple years ago and have bought other ones like the two in this video, but I don't like them as much as mine.

For the first couple weeks, there might an outside egg. But locking them in the first few days really helps orient them to "home".
Not much hawk or fox issue. The roosters sound the alarm on hawks and the hens run for cover.
I knew that distant motor revving was Nick, before I spotted him. Lol. I've identified his signature revving sequence it seems. Lol.
In most places Nick would be locked up for stalking.
Hahahaha. That's some funny sht.
Awww, he's a good kid...I think. Lol.
Thanks for the video! You are really gonna be a busy man now.

There will be a video eventually.

These are some sort of commercial brown egg laying hybrid that we'll call a golden comet.
Growing up we raised about 600 laying hens every year. I miss eating the pullet eggs. The best tasting eggs ever.
Not much to em. But...now that you mention it, they ARE pretty tender.
What happened to the 2+2 tractor
It in the shop still. Rome wasn't built in a day.
@@boehmfarm4276 what are you doing to it total rebuild
With roosters there, is it possible for someone who buys your eggs to get one that has an actual chicken in it?
They could try to incubate it, but after washing and refrigeration, nothing will happen.
That is so awesome! It’s great to see farmers growing.

Nice looking young birds Jacob I wish you the best of luck with them !
actually when I was a kid we used to go to MN to my mother's homestead and my Grandpa at one point had 1000 chickens

Nice video! Do they always go back to the same coop?
After a couple weeks pecking order is established, and they will usually stick with one coop.
“That’s a lie” I just about died!
more used chickens I love it. as always I loved it. thanks for the video. by the way eggs are $4 a dozen here now !!!
These are all new pullets.
Just had a fox get 2 hens 😡

Hello Boehm Farm fans
Förutom vad du skrev i den beskrivningen,
kycklingarna äter mycket ogräs också.
Do you like jumping into food?!?!? No! That's a lie 😂
Classical !!!
You are going to be extra busy now!
More Entremanuring.
Do you have issues with coons and possums getting them? Where do you sell all the eggs?
As fair as I know, eggs are sold out of my refrigerator in the garage. The the netting is electric and I set up a few traps.
We have a chicken we named Petunia
It's good to see the egg business is growing for you. Have a great week
😋 chicken nuggets!
