- Wow...what a clickbait title. Let's face it, pottery is boring to most people. Otherwise we would have 53 Million Subscribers like PewDiePie or Taylor Swift...well, I guess boring is subjective. OK, I've swerved WAY off topic...this video is NOT boring! Ann experiments with 8 ways to create excitement in the pottery world by mashing, bashing, clashing clay, paint, and faux texture tools to create a marbled clay look. Remember, Taylor Swift may be mega popular, but she failed ceramics in high school. You rock!
Answers to questions we get all the time:
We typically bisque to Cone 04 and fire to Cone 5-6
Ann uses Standard English Porcelain no. 365 unless specified otherwise in the video

If you would like to learn how Ann paints with underglazes - check out her Video Workshop Series. These workshops are very detailed (typically 1.5 - 2 hours in length) where Ann provides step by step instruction and are designed to help potters take their work to new levels of craftsmanship and artistry. vimeo.com/show...

That really was COOL!!! The shaving cream transfer was fascinating!!! THANK YOU FOR SHARING!!!😄
Hi Judy. Im glad you liked it. Thanks so much for watching. The shaving cream transfer is definitely my favorite...and smells good too, haha. Have a great weekend.
You are just amazing Ann!! I can not wait to try these ideas!! Thank you so much for sharing with us!! I can’t wait to see what you come up with using the new amaco inks coming out soon. As well as the mayco ongobes.
Love many of those effects. Ive used the shaving foam technique and layering coloured clay and have poured 3 colours of underglaze in thirds of the bowl.ithen swirled the bowl around moving the unnderglaze , It created a marbeing effect.
Hi cariad. I love the idea of the swirled underglazes. I havent tried that. thanks for the idea! Happy potting to you!
Another amazing video! Your techniques are so inspiring no matter what our skill level is. I always learn something new. Thank you!
Hi Jsh. Wow, thanks so much!! I am trying to appeal to all levels. Thanks for watching.
Thank you! Got the privilege to attend NCECA in Virginia this year (2024), and am back watching your videos for inspiration!
Hi Crunchy. Lucky you. Jim and I wanted to go, but we werent able to attend. We have a senior pup who is having problems and panics if she cant find us. Bless her heart. I just couldnt leave her. I hope you had a great time. Im sure it was fabulous but I thank you for watching 🙂 Happy potting!
Ann, another great video on surface decoration, good information with simple but effective designs, patterns and techniques. Thankyou 😅😊
Hi Denise. I really appreciate that. You are very sweet. Jim and I really appreciate you watching.
Do you apply clear glaze over the design in the Jackson pollack one?
Yes. thta is how I wouuld glaze it. I like the Amaco C-11. Thanks for watching!
Loved the marbling
Hi Kimberly. Thank you so much. Im glad you like it. Happy potting!
You are so creative! I appreciate your teaching style. I know when I watch your videos that you will present well filmed info with clear instructions and examples. Even when you and Jim add a funny comment or idea it’s in service of your presentation. I have to say I have learned from you and have been inspired to try something new every time I watch your videos. Thank you very much.
Hi Mavis. You are so sweet to share that. It makes my day to hear that you are enjoying the videos. You have a nice day too.
Stunning
Hey Heidi. Thanks so much!! Im glad you like those.
I made the mistake of using 2 different colors of clay but they had mismatched plasticity. You can imagine how my introduction to nerikomi went sideways. Literally. Newbie goof!😢😅
I've only had the chance to try the shaving cream one, but I had a lot of fun with it! ...And my bowls smelled like coconut afterwards, LOL!
Very interesting application, abstruct images as well. I am inspired the technic.
Hello!
Hey Rooster! Have a great day!
Love these ideas. Will they work as well on bisques pots?
No, you have to do the design before bisque. Thanks!
Wow lovely pattern ❤
