Thinking about a miniature throne for a King! Plus his 12th scale palace! And keeping Walter warm.

  • Day 133 in my video diary, 'A Year in the Life of a Miniaturist' had me thinking about the best use of my miniature mirrored room box. Thanks to one of the many great suggestions I received, I decided to create an illusion of the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles. Just an idea now! Got to bring it to life!
While sitting in front of the heater (-3.5 C here this morning) I knitted a wee hat which fitted Walter perfectly. The pattern will be in the next issue of my Miniature Time traveller magazine.

Of course a hall of mirrors, perfect ! How wonderful that you have seen it in real life so are in good stead to recreate the theme. Travel really broadens inspiration for miniatures 😊 l really like the idea of wall panels the fit into frames, both for ease of decorating and strength, clever idea Jill.👏

It is yet to be proved Coby. I have done a 24th scale house like that and I know I end up with heaps of pieces that I have to make sure I name! This is a much larger house and I think I will build the ground floor totally first. And take my time at it. After a trip to the Hebrides I came back wanting to build a black house. Still percolating in the back of my mind.

Hall of mirrors, fantastic use of this room box. I'm excited to watch your progress. Maybe one day in the future we will see Mr. Tumnus in another box. 😊

Lots of things to keep you busy as always!Love Walters cap and the brilliant idea for the room of mirrors. Both king Louis and his sumptuous clothes and hair will be a challenge as will the infinity idea and of course the chandelier but we all know with your creativity you will amaze us with the results.Of course when it gets a bit warmer we can follow the Tudor house too!Best wishes from Yorkshire Dales England.

Walter's cap was a whimsey for the magazine but turned out better than I thought. The cold weather is forcing me to think through my Tudor house plan properly so I do not leave anything to chance. So quite happy drafting up the plans on the kitchen table in the warm. Sounds like your weather is warmish as well. Kind wishes.

😍Walter’s hat is just perfect. He wears it well😊.
I’m fascinated by your process for designing the new house. Keenly watching here! Also, I agree on the warmer color for the hall of mirrors.
Last item, Jill: The Book entitled “All the Light We Cannot See,” may have a nugget or two for the daily quiz. The synopsis of the story may be enough to give you an idea.
I hope you have a wonderful day…nighty night from my side of the globe😴

Thank you Anika. I'll grab the book of Amazon and have a good read. Looking at the synopsis on Good Reads, it promises to be most enjoyable. Just to check, author is Anthony Doere - yes?
