The Last Kingdom is brilliant. The series is adapted from a book series by Bernard Cornwell, generally considered the greatest living historical novellist. Try his Sharpe series if you like Napoleonic time period, and about as gritty as it gets.

Cornwell took pretty much all of the major battles of the Peninsular Campaign of the Napoleonic Wars and wrote a novel around each one. His protagonist (Sharpe) is the same in each one and is (obviously) fictional, but the battles are historically accurate. At the end of each book he even has an afterword where he tells you what is accurate and what he invented for the sake of having an enjoyable read!!! For a history buff like me that is HUGE!!!! Odachi. "Oh-Dah-chee". It's a type of bladed weapon used by infantry during the dynastic period. There could be as many as 3 different blade lengths to an Odachi, depending on what it was being used for.

A lot of the content creators have very different pronunciations than I would, but being a Herald in the SCA for over a decade I learned to pronounce things from a lot of different cultures, so I try not to be too picky. I fail, but I try, lol. Underrated champion, by the way. Early game Odachi can make a very reliable nuker.
I think the point of the veil and speed tuning is that he can have the veil up everytime the enemy take a move so he uses the veil like you would use block dmg. That's what I gathered. Good bit of work to get him going, speed tune him to the wave speeds etc. Least it'll be easy to have set up for it in faction wars. Also you don't want to extend his buffs with lasting gifts. It defeats the point that you want the 1 turn buff to drop for the turn meter boost.
Great spotlight video. A tip to you Ash, Plarium added an option, in the options meny at the bottom under miscellaneous they call: Disable camera shake in battle. If you have a check mark in that, it will stop the constant shifting camera angle in battle. Making your video's more injoyable.

Yeah, especially the first season is kinda weird. It always feels like it wants to be serious but always keeps little cheesy and ridiculous.... But in the end it was really a great series which was over so fast... Looking forward to the movie
Was also going to specifically also comment regarding last kingdom I saw mention in one of the recent videos and I wanted to say YES ASH, by all means , STiCK with Last Kingdom. If there are parts you enjoy from the first two episodes then you will like it all. Just be patient. There’s never too long if time where it’s unbearable, just be aware that there ARE some parts, by the nature of the show; setting/scenery, and storyline, where it will just naturally cause SOME time periods where it will seem slower, but never too long at once and will always bounce back with a BAAANNnGgGg. So yeah man it’s great: Please stick with it and make mention of it in your videos as you progress through the seasons. It always gave me a BRavehesrt type feel in a handful of ways.
The Black Company by Glen Cook (gritty dark fantasy) and Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson (leans more epic fantasy but gritty as well) are both amazing book series.
I'm end game 3.5yrs in F2P but don't have extra gear that good lying around for him with so many better champs being higher priority, but he does look very good for a Rare and will get used. Thanks for the info! I kept a few copies of him during that fusion event.

Damn, forgot to comment my historical book recommendation on that video! Gates of Fire by Steven Pressfield is amazing! It's about the stand of the 300 Spartans at Thermopylae. Also, if you do end up liking The Last Kingdom (which I hope you do), the show is based on a series of books by Bernard Cornwell, so may be worth checking out. With regard to Shadowbow Tirlac; not necessarily disputing he's the best Rare in a while, but I think it's more an indictment on the quality of Rare champions that are getting released, rather than this dude being incredibly good, tbh.
Historical fiction recommendations: The Masters of Rome series by Colleen McCullough. The first book in the series is The First Man of Rome, and if you like it there are 6 more after that. Set in the late republic era and extends through the fall of the republic. Highly recommended!
A Song of Ice and Fire is a go to for Grimdark fantasy. Some people say that the First Law trilogy is an excelent choice. I haven't read them yet, but I have them on my shelf. Also the Broken Empire trilogy, by Mark Lawrence is pretty great, maybe a bit too much on the dark stuff sometimes, but for me it's worth it.
My fav books are Justin Cronin's series "The passage", "The Twelve" and "The City of mirrors". Kinda post Apocalyptic story but a thrilling read. For a great series try OA , mind bending stuff
Very old school John Carpenter movie if you like dark stuff, not gory but might leave nightmares called "Prince of Darkness." Donald Pleasence (Escape from New York and much more) and Jameson Parker (TV's Simon & Simon 81-89 and lots of voiceover stuff,) It's the second movie in the trilogy between "The Thing" and "In the Mouth of Madness" (another mind bender) and it's really got some freaky twists I think you might like. Doing a movie binge of the three might just send you into a funk for days thinking about the underlaying themes and possibilities. I don't like slasher movies, but dig stuff that makes you think and it's always my first recommendation! Let me know what you think!

Hello, dear Ash, please help me. I used to play raid back in the day but rage quit in 2019 after playing for 6-7 months without getting any legendary. I'm returning to Raid and opened a new account with link codes (I got rector, vergis, deacon, Ronda, kael). I am barely a week into the game and for now I have a huge stash of energy. I was wondering if I should use these energy and my first blue shards to progress my account initially by doing the progess missions + levelling my kael to 60. Or should I keep them for the next supreme starter fragment event, the one who will come after elhain? Should I open my first 10 ancients or so to increase my hero pool or still keep them for events? My kael is currently at level 50, all the 3 aforementioned epics at 40, many commons and uncommons levelling up for food. But I'm not sure if newbies have a shot at completing the fragments. Please help me. Also, my favorite show on Netflix is Demon Slayer. ❤
Ash if you are interested in epic fantasy. The Malazan series is really amazing. Dark fantasy not for the light of heart war based and everything you are asking for. Steven Erickson and Ian C. Esselmont co created the world and both have a fantasy series. All available on audiobooks.

What is the red border around the artifacts, ex blue=rare, purple=epic, orange or yellow= legendary but what is the red i saw in your storage it was a sylvan watcher accessory, but only saw one, just curious. .
So these damage based off defense, I'm guessing its all defense from items and set bonuses? I know drexthar has a similar kit but I keep changing up how i have him equipped since i'm not sure which does better. I know one of his recommended sets is lifesteal so didnt know if that is better than full defense gear set?
I didn't go with the fusion but I did keep 3 of these rares for faction wars when I saw how good the kit was. I thought oh they will go nicely with my two Orns that I kept instead of completing the fusion. Thanks for the video they are in the vault so no game play to assess them.
Not sure when/if you have done this, but would love to see you do a FW best teams video, or best epics team. I know I have struggled with one faction and have several team mates that sre struggling with multiple factions.
If you like good new ish rare champs that do a lot of support look at Mycolus Not saying he is amazing but he is carrying my Ogryn faction and has really surprised me with the damage mitigation healing and ally protect and with how it all combines really nicely in his kit.
If you stick it out with the last kingdom you will be very pleased with the show. I was in the same boat as you where the first cupple episodes I was like eh so I took a brake from it then came back to it just last year gave it a try and now it's one of my favorite shows and now when I look for a good medieval show I look for a show that's like the last kingdom. It has good story good characters and really keeps you I to it. I found my self wanting to watch more and more. Another good show is the Witcher! Dude if you haven't tried that show you should it's right down that nitty gritty you are looking for.
Ash, stick with the Last Kingdom, the 1st series is brilliant, but after that Netflix start getting involved and it get's even better! And it's partly based on real events, really good show.
"The Lost Regiment" Wow there is some very exciting historical fantasy if you love grim dark. You will thank me for this recommendation. It is hard to find in original print worth the hunt for it.
Check out the historical fiction series by Conn Iggulden. The Conqueror series is about Genghis Khan, and is fantastic. He has other series on other periods of history (I'm currently reading the series about the Wars of the Roses).
I knew this champ was good for a rare when I read the kit and I already started thinking of teams for him. I woulda built him but I went for oella (haven’t built her tho lol)
I knew I couldn't do that fission event with needing 16 of these. I did see that I could earn him and fully book him with all the copies I got. He was responsible for me getting further in Spider.
@@jayjaynator2911 I was only able to finish that damn event due to some lucky pulls on Ancient Shards where I got him 3 times. That got me 17; 16 for the fusion and 1 as a reminder to never get sucked into spending that much money on Raid again. 🥴

@@jayjaynator2911 Yeah, the only reason I was able to do it was because I work from home so my workstation is right next to my personal computer. So while battles are running on my PC on the I can work on my laptop to my right. That said, the demands on your time are so ridiculous that it does indeed feel like a full-time job just to get these fusion events going. Same thing with the 'Super' Elhain that's running now. Even with me spending a ton of time; I still may end up with just 75 tokens out of the 100 I need. So yeah, Plarium makes these things just way too hectic and time-consuming imo.
Can you do a vid on corpulent cadaver, maybe on your other channel? Been seeing him in a lot of CB builds with brogni and he's pumping out the dmg. Appreciate the shadowbow vid too. I kept him for faction but knowing to run him slow is clutch!
I've been trying to farm Spirithost in the campaign for 2 days. For the Relickeeper fusion. I can't tell you how many Graybeards I've gotten but not a single Spirithost. Atleast this is helping me build up alot of food.
Absolutely right; best Rare in bloomin' ages. I do think Geargrinder's underrated, Void and MVP for OG FW. In other content Run him in Shield and another Champ with shield skill in Bolster (or vice versa) and they're pretty resilient, too.
May not be dark but I'd recommend why does the heathen rage by J Stephen Roberts and the Dark Angel triliogy for a more fantasy. Id also recommend the goblin corps.
Really is an amazing show. The last kingdom. I promise its worth the ride don't give up on it at any point. If you like shows like that there's one I've heard about, throne games or something 🤭 There's a few you may like some might not be as dark as you'd prefer but still a good watch. ROME (This is probably something you'd like. Def gets dark and gritty def a greusome show at times) Merlin(may not be dark enough to your liking but theres some darkness there. Its something you could watch with teenagers withought having to worry but prob not anyone under 13 but to each his/her own.) Kingdom(anime but it's pretty good. Not sure but the way the narrator speaks it may really be based on fact) Vikings (yes its about vikings)
Anyone got any advice, my support champions are Decon lv 40, High Katun lv 38, Apothecary lv 30 one accession. Also Warpriest at lv 30. I'm levelling genbo for the arena. Who would be worth investing in for the support champions. I'm very confused. My other two champions in the team are Galek (he was my starter) he's at lv40 with two ascension and ronda. Any advice would be much appreciated.
If you like dark and gritty books I suggest Joe Ambercrombie he's like the Quintin Tarantino of fantasy books also Steven Eriksons the magazine book of the fallen series is excellent and Glen Cooks chronicles of the black company is great as well
I just finished the last kingdom for the 2nd time. Try knight fall. Vikings first few seasons are great. Designated survivor and Tom Clancy's jack Ryan should be good for your viewing. Enjoy
Hey Ash. If you're into historical books, try and author called John man. Especially two of his on ghengis and kublai Khan. But all of his a are great. If you like gritty books, also worth reading a book on vlad the impaler, doesn't get much more gritty than that, plus he's an in game character
i am a 200 day player and a lot of what i have learnt is with you and HH when i got this champ i looked for vids there was probably 2 or 3 nobody with my admirarion or willing to listen to but now you show this i could slap you
That's not true. Vikings is very loosely based on old sagas. The events in the series are said to have occured but Rollo and Ragnar weren't brothers and Ragnar didn't raid Paris but Rollo did. That first attack on Lindisfarne in the series happened before both Rollo and Ragnar were born. So there are real events and real people but the timeline and relations are clumped together.
Unlike Vikings (which despite being a History channel production is very fast and loose with the actual history) Cornwall's Last Kingdom does seem to convey the Viking time period effectively blending faction and fiction in a superior adaptation.

Ash, you GOTTA check out The Providence of Fire by Brian Stavely. All his books are fantastic. It's about three children of an emperor who is assassinated, who find that their empire exists only as a chess piece in a war between gods and immortals. 9/10, highly recommend you check it out. It's on Audible!

The last kingdom is definitely worth a watch but loses its steam after the first season if you're a fan of game of thrones and Vikings you will definitely like Marco polo the Netflix series
Ok. Historical fiction is my shit and i have read hundreds of books in that genre, the most dirty, grimy, bloodsoaked and brutal book happens to be one of my favourites of all time. Check out Tim Willocks 'The Religion', nothing else has come close to showing the meat grinder that is mass warfare with close combat weapons, it is honestly incredible and he fast became one of my favourite authors and i happily purchased his entire back catalogue though there weren't that mny as he isnt that prolific. The Religion also has a sequel which was superb too. If any one else is tempted to try it due to this comment, be warned it really is incredibly graphic and will stay with you long after you finish.
Took me two months to realize my Turvold was missing two pieces of gear still. Lol He got better. Being I avoid farming the poo gear from Ice Golem not a great champ for my account.
I have recently been reading an online only book called, " The Charismatic Charlie Wade. Made it thru the 1st 1000 chapters and it's pretty interesting! You may like it as well.
He's the only character I actually have a six star blessing for that I actually have the character for and I'm going with dark resolve but I was also considering carapace

I think you underestimate certain rares, prosecutor in stun is crazy, turn meter steal on the A1 and afaik the most consistent 3 turn CD AoE Decrease SPD, also huge for a few secret room, more than Tirlac might I add cuz she's great for rare attack on top of rare spirit only. I've used her in the past for stage 20 tellarian only FK as well and she was the glue that kept the team together.
The High Elf Prosecutor released for... (i forget whose fusion) isnt all bad either. 30% AOE decrease speed. For a rare, not bad. Pretty good base attack also, comparable to the 3 starters.

What is the red border around the artifacts, ex blue=rare, purple=epic, orange or yellow= legendary but what is the red i saw in your storage it was a sylvan watcher accessory, but only saw one, just curious. .
So these damage based off defense, I'm guessing its all defense from items and set bonuses? I know drexthar has a similar kit but I keep changing up how i have him equipped since i'm not sure which does better. I know one of his recommended sets is lifesteal so didnt know if that is better than full defense gear set?
I didn't go with the fusion but I did keep 3 of these rares for faction wars when I saw how good the kit was. I thought oh they will go nicely with my two Orns that I kept instead of completing the fusion. Thanks for the video they are in the vault so no game play to assess them.
Not sure when/if you have done this, but would love to see you do a FW best teams video, or best epics team. I know I have struggled with one faction and have several team mates that sre struggling with multiple factions.

If you like good new ish rare champs that do a lot of support look at Mycolus Not saying he is amazing but he is carrying my Ogryn faction and has really surprised me with the damage mitigation healing and ally protect and with how it all combines really nicely in his kit.
I wish I read this last week, just fed 3 of him...🙄

I watched the whole series of The Last Kingdom and I liked it a lot. Very good show IMO.
If you stick it out with the last kingdom you will be very pleased with the show. I was in the same boat as you where the first cupple episodes I was like eh so I took a brake from it then came back to it just last year gave it a try and now it's one of my favorite shows and now when I look for a good medieval show I look for a show that's like the last kingdom. It has good story good characters and really keeps you I to it. I found my self wanting to watch more and more.
Another good show is the Witcher! Dude if you haven't tried that show you should it's right down that nitty gritty you are looking for.
Ash, stick with the Last Kingdom, the 1st series is brilliant, but after that Netflix start getting involved and it get's even better! And it's partly based on real events, really good show.
"The Lost Regiment" Wow there is some very exciting historical fantasy if you love grim dark. You will thank me for this recommendation. It is hard to find in original print worth the hunt for it.
Check out the historical fiction series by Conn Iggulden. The Conqueror series is about Genghis Khan, and is fantastic. He has other series on other periods of history (I'm currently reading the series about the Wars of the Roses).

I knew I couldn't do that fission event with needing 16 of these. I did see that I could earn him and fully book him with all the copies I got.

@@jayjaynator2911 I was only able to finish that damn event due to some lucky pulls on Ancient Shards where I got him 3 times. That got me 17; 16 for the fusion and 1 as a reminder to never get sucked into spending that much money on Raid again. 🥴
@@DanakarEndeel I won't do fusion events for now because they are too much demending in times. Like you have to play every day like it is a job to finish them...
@@jayjaynator2911 Yeah, the only reason I was able to do it was because I work from home so my workstation is right next to my personal computer. So while battles are running on my PC on the I can work on my laptop to my right. That said, the demands on your time are so ridiculous that it does indeed feel like a full-time job just to get these fusion events going. Same thing with the 'Super' Elhain that's running now. Even with me spending a ton of time; I still may end up with just 75 tokens out of the 100 I need. So yeah, Plarium makes these things just way too hectic and time-consuming imo.
Can you do a vid on corpulent cadaver, maybe on your other channel? Been seeing him in a lot of CB builds with brogni and he's pumping out the dmg.

I've been trying to farm Spirithost in the campaign for 2 days. For the Relickeeper fusion. I can't tell you how many Graybeards I've gotten but not a single Spirithost. Atleast this is helping me build up alot of food.
Last Kingdom is amazing, the movie coming out "7 Kings Must Die" will be amazing. The books by Bernard Cornwell are great as well.
Absolutely right; best Rare in bloomin' ages. I do think Geargrinder's underrated, Void and MVP for OG FW. In other content Run him in Shield and another Champ with shield skill in Bolster (or vice versa) and they're pretty resilient, too.
May not be dark but I'd recommend why does the heathen rage by J Stephen Roberts and the Dark Angel triliogy for a more fantasy. Id also recommend the goblin corps.
Really is an amazing show. The last kingdom. I promise its worth the ride don't give up on it at any point. If you like shows like that there's one I've heard about, throne games or something 🤭
There's a few you may like some might not be as dark as you'd prefer but still a good watch.
ROME (This is probably something you'd like. Def gets dark and gritty def a greusome show at times)
Merlin(may not be dark enough to your liking but theres some darkness there. Its something you could watch with teenagers withought having to worry but prob not anyone under 13 but to each his/her own.)
Kingdom(anime but it's pretty good. Not sure but the way the narrator speaks it may really be based on fact)

Anyone got any advice, my support champions are Decon lv 40, High Katun lv 38, Apothecary lv 30 one accession. Also Warpriest at lv 30. I'm levelling genbo for the arena. Who would be worth investing in for the support champions. I'm very confused. My other two champions in the team are Galek (he was my starter) he's at lv40 with two ascension and ronda. Any advice would be much appreciated.
If you like dark and gritty books I suggest Joe Ambercrombie he's like the Quintin Tarantino of fantasy books also Steven Eriksons the magazine book of the fallen series is excellent and Glen Cooks chronicles of the black company is great as well
I just finished the last kingdom for the 2nd time. Try knight fall. Vikings first few seasons are great. Designated survivor and Tom Clancy's jack Ryan should be good for your viewing. Enjoy
Hey Ash. If you're into historical books, try and author called John man. Especially two of his on ghengis and kublai Khan. But all of his a are great.
If you like gritty books, also worth reading a book on vlad the impaler, doesn't get much more gritty than that, plus he's an in game character
i am a 200 day player and a lot of what i have learnt is with you and HH when i got this champ i looked for vids there was probably 2 or 3 nobody with my admirarion or willing to listen to but now you show this i could slap you
I recommend Prince of Thorns by Mark Lawrence. It's considered young adult I think but decently dark
If you like the fantasy stories, The Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini it's one of the best series.
Vikings was an incredible series, was featured on the history channel because of how accurate it was to the life of Ragnar Lothbrok.
That's not true. Vikings is very loosely based on old sagas. The events in the series are said to have occured but Rollo and Ragnar weren't brothers and Ragnar didn't raid Paris but Rollo did. That first attack on Lindisfarne in the series happened before both Rollo and Ragnar were born. So there are real events and real people but the timeline and relations are clumped together.

Unlike Vikings (which despite being a History channel production is very fast and loose with the actual history) Cornwall's Last Kingdom does seem to convey the Viking time period effectively blending faction and fiction in a superior adaptation.

Not medieval but definitely dark with twisted situations ... Netflix's Alice in Borderlands ... asian horror but seriously intense... I also enjoy medieval stories, need more! lol

Ash, you GOTTA check out The Providence of Fire by Brian Stavely. All his books are fantastic. It's about three children of an emperor who is assassinated, who find that their empire exists only as a chess piece in a war between gods and immortals. 9/10, highly recommend you check it out. It's on Audible!
Ash, if you’ve not already read it, Eyes of the Dragon by Stephen King. He wrote a fantasy story back in the 80s.

The last kingdom is definitely worth a watch but loses its steam after the first season if you're a fan of game of thrones and Vikings you will definitely like Marco polo the Netflix series

Ok. Historical fiction is my shit and i have read hundreds of books in that genre, the most dirty, grimy, bloodsoaked and brutal book happens to be one of my favourites of all time. Check out Tim Willocks 'The Religion', nothing else has come close to showing the meat grinder that is mass warfare with close combat weapons, it is honestly incredible and he fast became one of my favourite authors and i happily purchased his entire back catalogue though there weren't that mny as he isnt that prolific. The Religion also has a sequel which was superb too. If any one else is tempted to try it due to this comment, be warned it really is incredibly graphic and will stay with you long after you finish.
Took me two months to realize my Turvold was missing two pieces of gear still. Lol He got better. Being I avoid farming the poo gear from Ice Golem not a great champ for my account.

Dunno if anybody suggested it but Pillars of the Earth is a truly fantastic book. Historical fiction, my favorite genre.
I think you underestimate certain rares, prosecutor in stun is crazy, turn meter steal on the A1 and afaik the most consistent 3 turn CD AoE Decrease SPD, also huge for a few secret room, more than Tirlac might I add cuz she's great for rare attack on top of rare spirit only.
I've used her in the past for stage 20 tellarian only FK as well and she was the glue that kept the team together.
The High Elf Prosecutor released for... (i forget whose fusion) isnt all bad either. 30% AOE decrease speed. For a rare, not bad. Pretty good base attack also, comparable to the 3 starters.

What about slow relentess...I know the stun set is key to late game progression...but with those masteries...there would be more viels and shields and speed buffs to make him a great progression carry
