Nah. Brit Pop was a psyop to bring in the fascist european union. A whole load of countries giving up their sovereignty to become part of a fascist dictatorship. It was a scam
was Louise a sweety? - she always gave the distinct impression of being more thoughtful and intelligent than most of the people in the Britpop scene....
I wonder who put this together back in the day. The use of both Prince & the symbol is a bit odd. Cant see him being happy with the symbol use to promote this at the time. 😂😂
Sleeper were one of those bands that emerged into view just at the tail end of Britpop; it always seemed like they were running after the bandwagon. They (and by 'they' I mean Louise since no one even knew the names of the rest of the band) were held in scant regard by the music press and other bands. It seemed like they weren't truly there for the music, just donning the right threads and haircut to fit in. Louise was a "motormouth" wheeled out for interviews and to make the indie press look slightly less sexist. She was really a pop star in indie clothes; nothing wrong with being a pop star but people disliked the use of disguise. You just knew Justine from Elastica and Courtney Love, both even more ambitious than Louise, (and better dressed) were living it not JUST dressing for it. Whereas Sleeper were more like Shed (sucking) Seven. What's unexpected is that Louise is a damn good writer! Of books rather than songs.. Behind those perpetually blinking eyelashes and naked ambition, was an intelligent person with something to say. Highly recommend Different For Girls - her recollection of her indie pop ride. While the book makes it obvious that she's no PJ Harvey or Jarvis Cocker, she is a fantastic opportunist. She faked an NME review and duped actors into moshing out at an early gig to create fake hype. It's obvious why they were short-lived, (zero vision, no "us against the world" band mentality to bond them together, and little direction) but for sheer initiative and nerve, Louise certainly earned her five mins of fame.
To be fair I don't think even Louise knew the names of her band mates! I loved her autobiography - she comes across as a really interesting and highly likeable person which is a refreshing change as women tend to be neither.I think the problem for her (apart from the limited songs) was that she was a bit too old, wise and intelligent for the whole rock'n'roll charade.
Nah, not having that. The media focused on Louise but thats the media. The hot girl/guy gets the attention c`est la vie. She had a voice and was pretty cool but I never thought of her as gobby or particularly controversial. . Think of the Spice Girls who pretty much had that base covered since that was part of their ridiculous act. Sleeper are a pukka band that came up the hard way and a pretty good outfit plus Louise was always quite open about being in a pop band (and a pretty good one at that IMHO). They were very much of their time and after the failure of "Pleased to Meet You" just drifted away. I caught them on that tour, you could tell they were mailing it in. Its all captured brilliantly in "Different for Girls" which I urge all fans of that era to read. She used the phrase "I`m one of the herd again" or something similar. Not sure about the "zero vision" but I think you`re right about the mentality though. I always thought they gave up far too easily but at the time BritPop was over so I guess they meant to lie low and return but never did. Although they are touring later this year playing Manchester. Lush just finished a reunion tour so maybe the 90`s survive in some form after all. Oh, I also fancied her like mad at the time so theres that. Christ, who didn`t?
Did she have her lyrics on the floor? I quite liked Sleeper: they wrote several catchy Britpop tunes. But looking back, although she drew in the punters, Louise Wener had zero star quality just a toy doll image.
Really? This is just girlie pop for twelve-year-olds! Oh and they named themselves after a Woody Allen film? That's edgy.BTW, she married the drummer and they had kids. They're on tour now so you can go see them and get a dose of reality while you're at it.Actually, that would be a great place to pick up women.Hmmmm ….
They were a great band, Louise is one of the most talented songwriters of her generation. If you can't hear that from their music, you are tone deaf. By the way, if this girlie pop for twelve year olds is so easy to come up with, why don't you and the other 8 billion people on earth do it? You'd be millionaires is a year.
When indie rock ruled the charts. What a glorious time for music :-)
Amen!
brit pop movement of the mid 90s was AMAZING!!
The whole 90s were amazing
The human race got so serious they forgot to laugh & just have a good time
Nah. Brit Pop was a psyop to bring in the fascist european union. A whole load of countries giving up their sovereignty to become part of a fascist dictatorship. It was a scam
@Warp75 humanity got serious after 9/11
You don't get prettier than Louise 💗💗💗
who else like me was just becoming a man in this era what a time to be alive
wow louise looks amazing in that silvery satin/snakeskin minidress. Bring back the NINETIES !
She's still gorgeous and what a writer
that was when bands started singing live on TOTP, oh man the 90s were the best, music today is pretty dire no wonder they got rid of the show
Yes another comment about how much I fancied her back then. We all did. 💘
Words cannot describe how much I had the hots for her as a angst-ridden spotty teen lol
Peak 90s. The best time. The best.
Just watched Sleeper unplugged at The Venue, Worthing. So very good 👏🏻
She's an AMAZING songwriter. . . And l love her.
Yes but would you eat her shit
Agreed. IMO the best songwriter of the 90s.
@@mg55-n1l You must be joking.
I miss the 90s
I loved her and wanted to be her😍 I miss the 90s so much!
I had this on a cassette that came free with Smash Hits.
The good old days.
Same here! I wonder where it is now...
Just saw them do an acoustic set at the social on Hull, still amazing
I've had one of those Blur shirts :-). It had "I want mcnormal and chips or i'll blow you to bits" on the back.
Me encanta Sleeper!, no se como no me toco esa epoca
Nice to see someone actually singing live on totp
By the mid 90s most of them - the proper bands, at least - had live vocals on ToTP.
Is this singing?
iggypopisgod9 yes it is without crying...cool britannia 90’s
Brian Harvey out of East 17 always sang live. For real
Everyone did at this time, them was the rules.
Presumably the harmonies are pre-recorded though, as there only seems to be one Louise up there!
This is awesome, I met this band in Leeds at Roundhay Park in 95',they were really cool, saw Pulp on the same Bill as well....
Heineken festival,i was there too! pulp were the headliners. saw menswear, powder, salad and many others, great day.....
was Louise a sweety? - she always gave the distinct impression of being more thoughtful and intelligent than most of the people in the Britpop scene....
I was there too. Got a bit squashed and worried it was going to become another Hillsborough but that might have been weed-induced anxiety.
First time I heard Disco 2000 (before it was released as a single).
shivers...gorgious
I researched her over and over and over Boys and Germs...
brilliant!
That brings back some memories :-)
Cool
underrated pop bliss! I should know... :-)
I want those Blur and Oasis shirts the men are wearing. And I still adore Louise to this day. Her book was a fun read.
Those men are comedy duo Hale and pace 👍
The britpop blink in fell effect here.
Great ....
She BLINKS
Good old days, the world for me is so sos different now
i want to live in london in 90s lmao
Top shelf.
1995 was peak Britpop and Louise - well, what can I say? No bra and legs to die for. I’m in heaven.
This was really well directed by TOTP.
Made quite an impression on a 17 year old at the time 😄
Hale & Pace, oh God....
I know. Can hardly believe they thought them suitable to present totp at that time
@@ollyf5088 they had jimmy Savile at one stage, probably quite tame compared to him..
Bird always look hotter when they playing a guitar 😛
Hi glue
@@John-lp5xh hey John ✌️
Beautiful and the songs not bad either
This really made me laugh. ;-D
✔ Hale & Pace ✔ = 👍
Fucking Mint...When Music was fucking Music Boys and Germs...
A big song for a small show.
@dljc1979 back to the pub, I think ;)
Blimey... yes please.
Yes they were.
I didn't know Aragorn was a Blur fan.
They wernt a suede or an oasis or a blur.. but that intro takes me back to them days better than any of them
It's actually live. Wow
she's singing live over a recorded backing track
I wish I was 16 again.
Choon!
I’m American. Why was Louise beneath Justine Frishmann in the UK? Was it because Justine’s dad owned half on England?
They are both Jewish.
beneath her in what way ? missionary ? do you have pics ?
Sleeper - Awesomeeeeee. The 90's was amazing for cool, decent British music, not like the rubbish monotone, boring, generic music we hear now
I wonder who put this together back in the day. The use of both Prince & the symbol is a bit odd. Cant see him being happy with the symbol use to promote this at the time. 😂😂
Another comment on how hot Louise was in the 90's
@phlarrdboi weird, i just had to fill in a captha thing which said LARDSTER. are youtube trying to tell me sommat???!!?!
Wendy... Fake. This girl. Brilliant
Massive pupils. Must be dark in the studio.
No, she just has very dark brown eyes.
Her voice is kinda Deborah Harry, but sweet.
This was what popular music was back in the day... it had to be introduced by idiots before people actually heard it. Wait....
She reminds me a little bit of Mel C in a way.
Name a less funny "comedy" duo than Hale and Pace.
I'll wait.
Hale and Pace were terrible, Sleeper on the other hand were fantastic..
