    • @duskshadow25
      @duskshadow25 3 года назад +10

      CCNA isn't really worth getting in my opinion, because you start off as network technician and it's really hard to get in and out of that. It's basically equivalent of tech support from Best Buy, but you don't actually grasp the core concept of network engineer, which doesn't do any of the hard labor, but it comes down to configuration, troubleshooting and diagnostics of a company's network. Work industry asks for CCNP, but I would just invest half a year full time and go for CCIE. That's what I have been doing and I already passed CCIE written exam for routing and switching. Due to COVID-19 right now, Cisco's testing center is closed, but I can just take the written exam for CCNP and I'll get CCNP certified because Cisco gave me a badge as Cisco Certified Network Specialist for passing their CCIE written exam.
      CCNA does have a lot of important concept you need to understand, though, especially the layer 1 - 7 and things such as OSPF, BGP, TCP, etc.

      @@duskshadow25 Do you have to start at tier 1 entry job or if you have bachelor or a degree can you just enter a high tier tech?

    • @duskshadow25
      @duskshadow25 3 года назад +7

      @@assassin7250 I think if you want to start off new and get into the field, it's good to have a bachelor's degree in computer science and a CCNA. That's a good starting point. You can still apply for tier 2 to tier 3 job, but you do need to study a lot to make sure you can back-up the conceptual questions they ask you during an interview. An example would be "How does a traceroute work?"
      You think that's a simple question, but in reality it's actually a very complicated answer, because being able to know how it works and being able to explain how traceroute works to a non-IT person are two completely different thing.
      The reason why I say BS in computer science is because a lot of jobs nowadays require you to understand coding/scripting, especially Python and Bash from Linux, and a lot of the companies ask for a BS in computer science on top of a certification such as CCNA/CCNP. But if you don't have a BS in computer science, all hope is not lost. You can definitely still get a job without a bachelor degree and just a certification (CCNA), but it'll just be a bit harder and takes longer.
      My advice is when you go look at the requirement of a job, ask yourself if you really know those requirements that they are asking for. And if you feel like you could do most of the things they are asking for, then I would apply.

      @@duskshadow25 What if I’m not too good at math??

    • @duskshadow25
      @duskshadow25 3 года назад +33

      @@assassin7250 You don't need to be super good at math to become a network engineer. I know people that aren't good at math and still became network engineer. You just need to be able to do basic arithmetic. You know, as in add, subtract, multiply and divide. When you are actually working, you'll probably use a calculator most of the time for large quantity numbers because it's not ideal to do those kind of things by hand. But depending on what you are trying to do or what job you want to pursue after, your skills will vary.
      I will tell you that getting a bachelor of science in computer science will require a lot of high level math such as differential equation, linear algebra, and calculus I, II, III, as well as science courses such as biology and engineer physic I, II, and III. Those talk about sound wave and liquid volume and atoms, etc. Those are just general requirement too, and that's excluding all the core classes for computer science major. I went through those, and they aren't fun.
      If math isn't your strong point, you need to put in more time and effort to hone those skills if you are pursuing a career that uses a lot of math or simply to pass for academic purpose. But if you are pursuing a career that doesn't require a lot of math, you shouldn't have to worry too much if you can do basic arithmetic.
      Please understand that you still can get a network engineer job without a degree, but you need to do your research for the specific job field you want to go into, try to find an internship, as well as trying to get those IT certifications in exchange for not having a IT degree. You gotta put in the time and effort somewhere. Company cares way more about whether you can do the task they ask for rather than if you have a college degree or not. A lot of companies ask for a college degree as a filter to weed out people since there are so many applicants. But you can definitely still get hired if you have certification and experience. Experience is way more valued over your degree.
      Some of the higher level math classes I took back in college, I had to retake it 2 to 3 times because I failed them multiple times. But that was because I didn't care about my education and didn't care about life and wanted to just die right there and then. But I made it through all of those and didn't give up, and so can you. The important thing is all about your mentality. Mind over matter. Apply that kind of mentality to what you want to do anything in life, never give up, and you will succeed at some point in return for all those time and effort you put into sharpening your knife.

    Halfway through the video, you talk about how switch stacking is used for redundancy. This is not what stacking is for. Stacking is used to increase the number of ports on a switch by connecting two switches together so they can be managed as a single larger switch. If one switch goes out it would break the stack and have no redundancy. Physically moving the connections from a failed switch to a different switch with the same VLAN access has nothing to do with stacking as you could easily have two unstacked switches configured the same anyway.

      Hm,
      I can see your point.
      In your scenario, perhaps if the Master and subsequent member of the stack (with correct stack priority) both go down, will the entire stack be offline/unreachable or broken.

    • @j.l.61
      @j.l.61 3 года назад

      @@DJHEV My point is, if a switch fails, there is no automatic redundancy for its connections. You must physically move the connections or replace the switch. This is not redundant. If a stacked switch goes down, all connections into that switch are down. Stacking has nothing to do with redundancy. Layer 2 redundancy really only happens at the distribution level, where an access layer switch is connected to multiple distribution layer switches in a partial mesh topology. If one distribution layer switch goes down, then a connected access layer switch has a backup distribution switch it can use once STP is done converging.
