My friend keeps trying to trigger the glitch by pot-shotting the dragon with arrows but he just couldn't seem to do it somehow.
..I just noticed. You can't translate Hellkite Dragon into German, since we use the same words for kite and dragon.

@@stranger9980 Dude I have 99 Vitality, 99 resistance (I'm trying a hacked playthrough on NG+), full +5 Black Iron Armor, Flame Stoneplate Ring, Black Knight Shield. That's 451 flame resistance + 1900 hp and he 1 shots me with my shield up or he spams his flying firebreath attack and stun-locks me till I die. I could only kill him with Power Within + RTSR + Tin Crystallization Catalyst + Dark Bead + Bellowing Dragoncrest Ring + 99 Intelligence and he still took 2 shots coz I got good RNG then I died lol. This Drake is total BS!

I can't believe he's only worth 10000 souls. I farmed that much from his free undead kills trying to beat him. Then one time he manages to get me before I can reach them again (using his one shot jumping flame thingy).
A very big thank to you good sir, this beast is probably the hardest non-boss creature in the game to deal with, I imagine how many people went through great pain trying to kill this guy without looking up helpful guides like yours. Praise the Sun!
And even easier way is the first use the bow and arrow to cut his tail off and recover the sword. Then you continue on underneath the bridge clear out the two hollow knights that are under there. Then go to the room with the rats and kill them. Turn back around and go out to the ledge underneath the Dragon to the right of the door to the rat room. Back all the way up so that you can look up with the bow and arrow and shoot the dragon in the head. Wait for him to fly down to the middle of the bridge. Then start nailing him in the back and legs with your bow and arrow. After a minute he'll fly back to his perch. Then just rinse and repeat hitting him in the head waiting for him to fly to the bridge and hitting him with the bow and arrow. At low levels you're going to want about 300 standard arrows. Only takes about 10 minutes and you don't have to worried about getting hit by him at all.
Just use negative comments against it. That'll do it.

You can shoot the tail without put you in danger from under the bridge and after follow this video and you will get everything ( use R1 attacks )
Not sure if you know this, as i know this is a very old video, but cutting off his tail does NOT prevent him from healing, i cut it off and started attacking him with a dragon slayer bow, getting 120+ dam per shot, and he still heals to full after a certain ammount. like i said dont know if you already know by now or if it was since patched since this video but i thought people might like to know this fact.
so how about writing version you play before say sth?

+Gavin Duncan there is a way that you have to use the platforms near the Sunlight Altar bonfire that requires you to bait specific attacks from him. Luck has a lot to do.

If you go to Darkroot Basin I think it is (the entrance that Havel guards) if you walk a little bit to the left you'll find a body with leather gear and a long bow
It so much easier to just sprint down the stairs
I use that spot to soul farm. If u have the shortcut ladder. U can climb up have him kill the Knights the jump back down to the bonfire

they always only give you 50 souls though so later in the game it becomes less efficient to farm there
Yeah I did the same thing not realizing there's a way better soul farming spot...
It does take $20,000 but eventually you buy some sort of Crest from the blacksmith and then you go to the garden and find the door with the glowing seal.
What it says to do online is sneak around and come up behind people and stab them in the back....
That way was extremely too hard because they would just hunt me down and literally kill me in one hit.
However this is got to be the best cheat in the game. All you have to do is run past all four guys without getting hit which is a little bit hard at first but more than worth it.
Anyways once you have ran and gotten all four guys chasing you run back torwords the staircase where the door with the seal was but this time run to the right of it and straight into the corner with the ledge of death on the right...
For some hilarious reason the NPCs will run up the stairs instead of to the right of it like you did and will literally jump right over your head giving you seven thousand Souls every two minutes that you do this...
I literally went from level 19 to level 80 in less than an hour.
And I'm playing on the remastered version for the switch.
not sure if anyone else has figure this out because I've seen people list this area as a good Farm spot but it always says to try to stab them in the back or something like that but it's way too hard and my way is 10000 times easier and way faster.
A twitch streamer was fighting him, and then somehow the dragon fell from the bridge !What a lucky break for him.
I'm stuck it's my first time playing dark souls I'm trying to play through it but what happens is I run up the stairs and trigger him and he won't trigger until I get like 2 ft away from him

I went to an or London first to get the dragon slayer great bow and for the hell of it got it +3 and in about 15 dragon slayer arrows killed the s.o.b prior to getting the bow he was a pain though so yeah that's how I did it

When I got his tail it took me like ~50 regular arrows not the crappy arrows for 3 souls but the ones for 10 souls!!

Guys, if you get the Slumbering Dragoncrest Ring and go to the Undead Burg bonfire shortcut and go up the staircase, if the dragon is standing on the bridge you can safely walk around him and kill him from behind and he won't attack you.

in new game plus I spent damn near a half hour on this guy. I went below stairs and shot his tail off. then for the next half hour I kept shooting him in the wing and it seemed to do no damage at all. went upstairs to check and got 1 shotted.

Dude, I ran past the Hellkite Dragon and now I can't mak it appear again on the bridge. I was ifghting it and, well I died! I went back for a round two and he is gone. Does he appear further in the game or not?

Awesome. Daryl the Hellkite Drake, prepare to die. I wish he wasn't so cheap so I could actually melee him. I had tried shooting him then fighting. But even with flash sweat, the stone plate ring and Havel's armour (the best at the moment), I died by flamy haliotosis. Alas, he is cheap, so I'll return the favour.
Does this work with the remastered version?
I dont have a bow so I lure him by just standing a dozen seconds behind the walls. I've been consistently hitting him for 20 minutes and the tail has not even fallen. Is it possible this way, or must I lure him with the bow absolutely? Also I do 25 damage (with uchigatana), thats pretty low compared to you, so that might be it, but hell 20 minutes...

DOES NOT WORK ANYMORE.
The Bridge Wyvern which is it's name now heals while perching on the building so if you disengage he heals. Bow shots to the tail won't kill either.(at least with standard arrows)
@Mrs. Yander👰🏾 Sorry I forgot about this comment, I did end up getting it but he does Regen, I just had to go with a LOT of arrows and do really good timed shots because he moves everytime he's hit.
This guide worked well for me. It seems I got lucky tho at the end as the I shot the dragon with an arrow like right in the heart and instead of 11dmg like normal it did like 36 and he died.
Isn't there ANY way to just stand toe-to-toe with the damn thing and fight it to the death like you have to do with the other dragons bosses in the series (like the Ancient Dragon or Kalameet)? Everyone just seems to cheese out its AI one hit at a time. Surely you can dodge its fire breath by rolling under it, can't you?
im level 90 and im using Havels armour set, a +10 Lightning Zweihander, the grass crest shield (for the stamina regen bonus) and my rings are ring of favour and protection and usually i prefer the ring of steel protection but i think the Dragon would call for a flame stoneplate ring. with flame stoneplate, my total Fire res totals 305. as im wearing heavy armour and using a greatsword is this enough or do changes need to be made before facing the dragon? (my roll speed is low)

Holy shit I am playing right now I was looking for humanity to no avail. So I went to the top of the tower in undead parish, where the black Knight was, just to look at the world. I noticed the red dragon on the bridge and decided to shoot it in the back of the head with an arrow. the arrow hit and the dragon took flight (it's bridge landing animation) I ran into the tower thinking it would come for me, but I no longer heard it's roars. I ran back up and it was gone. I decided to investigate so I ran back down the tower as I did I received 10000 souls.
(I have not defeated the gargoyles yet and have not rung any bells so fairly early in the game.)
TL;DR
I just killed the hellkite dragon with one arrow.

This was a good video, tried killing him at SL 80, dude kept flying up and flaming me, only to do it immediately again after i got up, over and over again killing me slowly. He did this every.single.time. Then occasionally his attack would oneshot me, no matter if i had flash sweat, flame ring or armor on. Very poor AI design.

I cut his tail, and he still regenerates on the castle...
@Mrs. Yander👰🏾 thx for ur reply, I have managed to kill him already. As for farming spot I never used this technique :) But I guess it can be useful early on. Later in the game, but actually not far away from the dragon, u can farm human enemies in forest behind the blacksmith in Undead Perish. I did not compare those 2 farming spots, but I would bet humans give far more exp/hour.
Things I noticed about dragon (actually it's wyvern, not dragon If I am correct):
- tail cut or not - he still regenerates. Regenaration happens after he goes back to the wall for the 4th time. So your window to kill him is those 4 times he comes to the bridge and goes away. I found it not enough to kill him with fully upgraded composite bow, the damage is simply too low if u allow the dragon to go back to the wall. I tried to stay close to the dragon with melee weapon in order to not allow him to fly away but I was not able to sustain fire damage output, also his stomp attack is very powerful. this creture hits like a truck and there is no room to kite around. So for me the strategy shown in this video did not work at all, as after he fire breaths and you go back from the stairs, he will attack u before u can run towards him, hit him, and go back to the stairs to safety. So this melee attack can be done only 1 time per cicle - when he flies from the wall to the bridge. So it means u can hit him 4 times (4x bridge to wall cycle) before he renerates.
What I did, is that I discovered how not to allow him to go back to the wall without going close to him:
1. go under bridge and cut his tail off (u can speed it up 2x - hit the tail on the right side of the bridge, when dragon enrages and flies to the bridge, go to the left side of the bridge. Soon there will be a moment when his tail will appear there very close to u - shoot it with the bow too. Dragon goes back to the wall - repeat whole process untill tail is cut off.
2. Go upstairs to the bridge main floor and take your bow out.
3. Shoot dragon in his head to force it to fly to the bridge close to u.
4. WHen he is flying - prepare your 2nd shot, but shoot only when he touches the bridge. Immidiately shoot 3rd shot, and very fast run downstairs as dragon will cover area with fire.
Now is important part. After he fire breaths, he can do a couple of different things. He can stay at his location, or he can fly over further into the bridge and lend there. Watch it from the stairs closely when fire is still on the bridge, you should see/hear him flying over. If he flew over, u will see his upper wings and neck from the stairs soon. If it happens, when fire ends, he will start walking towards his first bridge position so he will be passing by your current location on the staird. Do not move away from stairs. Shoot arrows at him from the stairs, you should be able to hit his neck, wings, and in last phase tail 3 times before he passes you by.
Now go fast upstairs to the bridge in order to trigger his fire breath. This forces him to stay on the bridge and not fly away to the wall. So he now does his fire goo, u run downstairs, wait and observe bridge once again. If he once again flies over to the other side of the bridge, repeat the process.
OR if u time it correctly, u can catch him when he is walking past u - and trigger him to fly back to his 2nd position. If he does that, go downstairs, shoot him 3 times when he walks forward, run upstairs, force him to fly back again and repeat. This is perfect lock on him, but not always it happens. But this is most preferable scenario.
5. Immidiately after fire ends go up to the bridge Dragon will turn back towards his sitting wall - his ass will be towards u. THis is why we need to cut his tail off beforehand - he now cannot attack u with his tail and he is helpless. Shoot him with bow in his back. He will turn around towards u to spray fire breath. Run downstairs to avoid fire.
Watch for point 4/5/6 from the stairs.
6. He can also remain in the place where he landed on bridge when he flew from wall. Try to shoot him with a bow once before u run downstairs to hide from the fire breath. But be carefull, he can shoot fire really quickly from this position and if u get greedy, u will die. Cancel ur bow shot if needed and run for cover to try another time when fire ends.
Doing this quick -hiding from fire and going upstairs the moment when he is about to fly away to the wall - will force him to attack u instead. All u need to do is understand timings, and shoot him between his attacks.
If done correctly, u can do this fight without loosing any hp and without much effort.
for me it worked to keep throwing lightning Spears at him
there a better way with that blindspot where you cant be hit with his pillar of flame
What if you have no bow?
Run across bridge, behind the wall on the other side wait for 10 seconds and dragon flies down. Hit him while crossing bridge back to stairs.
+TerraMantis how did you acquire a bow in the game? I'm stuck at this point right now, I love your channel and yours was the first I went to for help! I don't have a bow at all I'm playing as a knight in the game I have a broadsword equipped and a longsword in my inventory, do absolutely need a bow to kill the hellkite or can it be done using the weapons I have?

You don't need to kill the drake
If you don't have a bow then just go on the path under the bridge. You'll eventually find one.
I literally died more to this shit ass dragon than to Ornstein and Smough... there was only 1 fucking time he did a melee attack, he ALWAYS spams fire from left, right, above, behind... I don't even have a chance to reach him for 1 melee attack... I don't see how this is a fair fight, I tried over 40 times or something... any other solutions?
When i stop on the bridge the dragon doesn't breath fire but when i get really fucking close it does and kills me, Wtf is with this game ._.
You just managed to make a long fight even much longer. Well I guess the melee weapon does more damage than an arrow...

How to beat hell kite drake=dragonslayer spear
So I just encountered the dragon right after meeting Solaire. I have no arrows at all and no other throwable objects that'll go that far. I'm at level 18, and would have no idea how to even get a hold of fireballs. I can't run to the stairs you're using either, so I'm guessing there's another path that leads you up there? I have no idea what to do right now, as I've been to every other sidepath (except the ones with locked doors) up until now... Navigation in this game seems to be even harder than combat itself... do you NEED to jump off platforms to reach certain important areas sometimes? I always shy away from this out of fear from falling to my death...
The game only adds in Jumping to platforms as a means of getting secret items or getting a shortcut
I may be too late but if you don't want to fight the boss just cut off his tail and then run to the bonfire behind him then use the doorway wall as a shield soon as he stops pull the lever on the side of you and run back up there and then going to the bonfire that should make him flyaway
No videos of anyone straight up fighting this boss man to man. I guess it is still a bitch to kill then and only cheese strats work.

I HOPE THIS COMMENT REACHES YOU... UMM I HAVE A HALBERD WEAPON WITH IS LIKE A SPEAR AND AN AX, YOU SAID WEAPONS THAT ARE LONG RIGHT? WELL ITS PRETTY LONG. SO TELL ME WILL IT BE EFFECTIVE AGAINST THE HELLKITE?
It will cause damage and the Halberd does have a high, swinging arch which is good, but if it's just a normal non-upgraded Halberd then it's going to take a LONG time to kill the drake. That being said, the Halberd would be a good weapon of choice, especially so if you upgrade it. I personally normally use the washing pole sword.
oh okay then, but I don't have enough souls to buy a shard because I already upgraded one of my weapons, so maybe if I used the staff that I got from the titanite demon might work right?
kaichoukev It's been a long time since I've swung that weapon so I don't really remember what the attack animation is like, but it's likely.
yeah I just tried to kill it but there are 2 problems, 1. I cant seem to hit every time I mean I do hit it but I keep missing. 2. even if I do hit it I cant to dodge it correctly like you did in the video.
I wasn't certain but I thought I remembered the Titanite Demon's Polearm having a goofy swing style. What you want is a weapon with an over-head arching swing downward -- something that goes up, high and strikes straight up and down. And, you need to anticipate where the Drake's head will be before it lands and already be striking the head as the Drake lands, then get out of there after one hit.
As far as dodging, I can't help you there anymore than what you see in the video. That's up to you.

What was you strength and dexterity level roughly when you did this fight?

This doesn't work anymore, he uses different attack patterns than in this video, when i shoot him, he comes up, then shoots fire 2-7 times, regens health then comes back. Sniping him from below also does not work anymore because he regens health even with his tail cut off.

There's a path underneath the bridge.
You gotta bait him into coming towards you, then hurry and run past him when he can't breath fire on you. That's how you get to the next area.

i killed this dragon by shooting with an arrow at the black knight location when you entered undead parish and it just glitched out and gave me 10000 souls
Okay so I'm at the end of the game right before Gwyn, finished the dlc, levelled up the wazoo, vitality for days, in Havel's armor and this asshole dragon can still 1 hit.
That shouldn't happen...
I know what you mean. I am on ng+ and I have about 1600 health and 192 stamina(maxed) and he can still take down all my endurance and nearly one shot me with a flame attack and nearly 2 shot me with melee.
Use the fire resistant robe you got in the ceaseless discharge fight.

I never bother to upgrade the armor sets. It helps a little I suppose but not that much tbh. You will also want to use the fire defense ring while fighting the dragon. You can get that from the merchant in sens fortress.
I faced this guy after beating bosses like Gravelord Nito and Seath the Scaleless, so I was pretty high level, but this guy was much tougher than either of those. After dying several times, I only beat him by getting a lucky break while rushing at his legs.
This dude is the real final boss.

I have to share this...
In my game right now, I managed to finally kill this thing, but the way I did it was uncanny. I went up the stairs in the Undead Parish that the Black Knight was at the top of, and I was able to get a view of the wyvern's back. I only had two arrows left, so I took aim, and fired. The wyvern hopped onto the bridge, but disappeared. I thought it went out of the range of vision, so I went to see if it was still there. As I did... I earned 10,000 souls...

Dragon leaves if you perched nearby into the Black Knight's tower.
But even then, the presence of the Black Knight means you shouldn't be there at all.

Perhaps this is an unpopular opinion, but after getting the Drake Sword via cutting Hellkite's tail, I reckon the dragon is more useful if it remains alive. Whenever I need to grind a little bit to level up or to buy some items, rather than killing some low-level enemies, I would prefer Hellkite do it for me. 555 souls per minute does not sound too bad, especially for starting or mid-level characters.

Once you get through the majority of the painted world and open the short cut, if you have a fire sythe you can farm about 8k every 2 or 3 min. In ng+ with symbol of avarice and silver serpent ring about 21k per run.
It's science mixed with magic and logical chaos. Nah, I don't know, its tail just breaks off after 'X' amount of damage. It doesn't matter where the drake receives damage on its body.
Maybe my character is slower than yours because I tried this and he always manage to hit me with his flame attack before I can roll down the stairs.
I just shot him in the tail under the bridge and got the nice sword. was hard to hit it. needed a lot of bolts for the
crossbow and time but it worked nicely
Man, I bum rushed it with zweihander and hacked the feet before retreating. If you stand on the bridge out of sight, it will come down on its own accord, and I had to bait it 4 times or so to kill it. Never cut off the tail, so the Drake Sword eluded me, though.
Not gonna lie, I had to do this a few times.

ok so ez mode for killing helkite (or just going past him however if you do run past you can't fight helkite and get the 10-12k souls until the new game +): make sure you have a high damage weapon (say Black Knight Halberd or Great Scythe Moonlight Great Sword). once you've prepared Shoot him with an arrow to aggro (or any range weapon). run up to his feet and stop, once he shows his tell for attacking run to his tail, and 2 hand your weapon of choice. hit the tail until it falls off 1-3 hits (or just run past instead if you want) he should be staggered and will probably only take 2-6 more hits of whatever weapons you're two handing. If you die during this point at worst his tail is gone so he can't regenerate and you can do the steps in this video if you don't have high damage.
The hellkite dragon comes back if you run past him.
