When you said "the farther the first bolt is from the second, that's going to make the brake tighter" something clicked for me!! I've watched several videos trying to fix my 92yo Grandfather's walker. The brakes weren't working anymore. Then I overdid it, the wheels locked, and the brakes weren't working. It was a mess. I gave up for 2 days and he struggled pushing the thing around until I pulled out the tools again and found your video. Thank you.
Even a "girl" can do it. ...as he would say. 😐🤪
So glad it helped!
Thank you. I live by myself and have been without brakes on my walker. After watching your program. I now have brakes. Thankyou
Sandra I'm so glad it was helpful!! Thanks for the comment, hope you have a great weekend
-Sam the PT
I finally decided to look up a vid on this. In my phys therapy clinic (I'm an aide) I noticed a ton of ppl coming in with loose walkers. I cannot emphasize the improvement of life I have directly made based purely on tuning unfixed walker brakes. Using the manuals and intuition (bike breaks like u mentioned) I have been able to fix so many loose walker breaks its actually concerning to me lol. The quality of life for someone reluctant to fix their brakes improves so much I hope everyone just seeks assistance in the system rather than use their own abilities to overcome the problem, and this video legit gives me more confidence to fix more walkers and the ability to reference a video thats easy to access. Thank you, this is awesome and really impacts so much in the field.
So glad to hear this! Thank you for sharing and for the encouragement to others!
What a blessing - What a great video - you helped me get my "parking brake" of my rollator unfrozen and working!
Glad it helped! let me know if you have any other questions!
Thankyou, just adjusted my grandmother's and made it safe again for her in minutes. Great video, easy to follow.
Thank you for sharing Alison, let me know if you have any questions or trouble in the future, here to help
Thank you! Locking the brakes was a mystery to me! You solved it!
glad it helped!
In this video he mention that Medicare will pay for this. I bought one for my dad thru Medicare & medicare will not pay for the seat or the brakes. They cost me $75.00.
I didn’t know how to apply the brakes on my mom’s walker when she sits. Thank you for this video.
Happy it was helpful! I'll plan on making a video that demonstrates the technique to sit on the walker as well. The safest method is to push the walker directly up against a wall, lock the breaks, and then it's braced so that it won't move on her. Thanks for the comment!
- Sam
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!! I WAS TRYING TO FOLLOW OTHER VIDEOS. THEY WERE TOO BUSY TALKING ABOUT OTHER STUFF. YOU WENT TIGHT TO MY PROBLEM AND CAREFULLY AND DIRECTLY DESCRIBED HOW TO REMEDY MY ISSUE. I HAVE TIGHT BRAKES AGAIN !! THANK YOU,YOUNG MAN. I WILL SAY A PRAYER FOR YOU TONIGHT. SHELIA
I was just able to complete my height adjustment, thanks to you!
That's great to hear, happy to be of assistance
- Sam, PT
Great video! I was able to tighten brake on one side of my mother-in-law’s walker! Thanks
Glad it helped!
Thank you so much 😊I can now adjust my husband’s walker 👍
Wonderful to hear, how did the adjustment go?
- Sam, PT
I did byu one today from Walgreens
Thank you for your help. My Father has got himself one and has given back his mobility. Will :)look at the brakes and see if they need adjusting. :)
Glad to hear this was helpful, John, and so excited for your father! Take care.
Just the right amount of info. Thank you!
You bet! Delighted to share.
Thank you! I've learned how to tighten my brakes.🥰
Thanks for the informative video. I will save it for future reference. I bought a Nova Mini Mac a couple of years ago, and haven't had any problems with the brakes, but I seldom go outside. Also, my apartment is all one floor and has a level entry. There is always the possibility of the brakes becoming loose in the future, so knowing how to adjust them will be a big help.
When assembling my walker I made one change from the instructions. The brake cable was shown as being outside of the walker legs. I've seen that on other rolling walkers too. I was concerned that being outside of the legs could enable the brake cable to snag on things. I don't want that to happen, so when I assembled my walker I positioned the cables to be on the inside of the legs. They have never snagged on anything, and having them on the inside of the legs has never caused me any problems.
I like my walker, but some day I'd like to get an armrest style of rolling walker. They are usually referred to as upright walkers. Instead of gripping the handles with your arms extended downward, you put your whole forearm on an extended handle grip. This provides more support than the standard hand grips. Unfortunately, the forearm models don't yet come in a version for people who are both short and broad. My Mini Mac is about the only standard style of rolling walker for such people, which is probably why it costs at least twice what the average height/average width models cost. I had reached a point where I needed more help than my 2 canes were giving me, so I had to buy my walker. Rolling walkers are a big help, so I'm not complaining. If mine were to get destroyed or stolen, I would buy it again. I like being able to get around better, with less pain, and more safely.
Anyway thanks again for the video, and I look forward to seeing more of your rolling walker videos.😀
Cool I did it 😁 lol I tighten the brakes 🎉
Thanks! I just picked up a 3 wheel for my dad and the left brake was loose.
I'll definitely try to do what you suggested
Did you get the 3 wheeled walker fixed up?
Thank you for showing how to keep the break on.
We refer to them as "parking brakes", glad it was helpful!
Cool thank you so very much for sharing this with me very much appreciated it ❤🦅❤️🦅❤️🦅❤️
Happy to help!
- Sam, PT
Thank you soo much!! I have a walker just like that, except it's a deeper red that matches my scooter. I thought I had to buy a new one, because it kept rolling and I couldn't lock the brakes and thus I couldn't use it! I can only step on one leg and I really need that balance/support!! 🙏🙏
No problem! I'm excited to hear that you found a matching color to the scooter :)
- Sam, PT
New subscriber...Great video. This was so very helpful! This saved me buying another rollator.
Thanks for the sub! Glad it helped Cheryl!
Thank you for this video.
Glad it was helpful Tim!
Thank you, you made that so easy to follow. 💯
Glad it helped!
They offered to replace it, but it seems to s shame to toss what is basically new machine.
If you get a new walker, then donate your older one to someone who can use it. Homeless shelters will be able to find a person who needs one but isn't on Medicare or Medicaid. Also there are other places that help people who can't afford to get a 4-wheeled walker.
@@Goldengirl48 Totally. I was just noting the pure waste at the hospitals and such, that would give recycling activists a stroke.
Thank you ! I’m using my mom’s old rollator and I needed to make it taller .
GREAT VIDEO
glad you liked it!
Thanks for doing the video. I read the brief booklet but having you explain things is so much clearer. I need to adjust one side of our mothers so that the brake can be set (it is actually difficult for me to set). Now I know how to loosen it. Thanks
I'm glad it was helpful!
I have a Rollator that the steering
wheel has broken
Where do I get a replacement parts come from?
That is a bummer. We recommend contacting the manufacturer's customer service for part replacements. Take care!
Thank you so much.... I appreciate it!!!
Our pleasure!
Thank you!
You are welcome, Robin!
Just what I was looking for, thank you!
Thx u sooooooooo much this was very helpful
glad it helped!!
Thanks for this. Helped alot 💯👍🏾
Glad it helped!!
Thanks! You saved me.
Glad I could help!
So you sent me two screws that didn't fit. They weren't long enough. It's fine. I just jury rigged two other screws with wing nuts. However when I use it the left front wheel turns to the left. Why is that?
Is the walker level? sometimes when they're not level they tend to pull to a side
Hi I don’t know if you still read your messages but how do you remove the grips to replace?
Hi there! You usually just have to grab them and twist, I'll make a video of this just for you :)
@@Deliver_Rehab Ty 😀
I acquired a second hand walker where can I get replacement coverings and cables....I have medicaid only...
Hi Kateri! I would try calling the local Medicaid customer service number on the back of your insurance card, ask specifically about Durable Medical Equipment (DME). Medicaid should actually cover for you to get a new walker, can ask them when you call. Good luck!
Will do! I'll get back to you if that does not hold up. So far that's only serving medicare.
Well I want to say thank you for your video because I've learned how to fix my brakes on my Walker and now I just have a question why when you put on the brakes it keeps going forward keep going forward it only stops backwards
I am having issues with the brake. One is holding up the brake but the other is very loose. Not sure where to adjust have tired and I think I'm making it worst
Thanks for this very helpful video. You mention that it weighs 5 lbs, but when I follow the link to amazon, it says it is 18.60 pounds. Is this a different product?
Hi there, this was an error in my estimation of weights :) The walker in the video is a few years old and was given to a patient of mine that needed it, so I not able to provide a true weight for you. The link for the walker on amazon is the same make and model. I'd be surprised if it actually weighed 18+ lbs, my guess is that's the weight of the packaging as well. I'll order the model that is linked and can make a video for you where I weight the box, and then weigh the walker as well. If there's anything else that you want me to go over before your buy it let me know and I'll make sure to cover that in the video. I'll order it now and will have that up on youtube by June 12, 2023.
- Sam the PT
@@Deliver_Rehab - So very kind of you! I decided to go with a seatless model with no wheels in the back (the Able Life Space Saver), as it weighs about 8 lbs. What feels light to you feels like 100 lbs to me. :)
@@monelleny That's a good one as well, I just ordered the walker and will still make that video for you in case you want something different in the future. Thanks for watching and thank you for the feedback!
@@Deliver_Rehab - Thanks, Sam, I may very well "graduate" in the future. You're the best! :)
Bless yeah buddy.
I really need some help! I tried to adjust at the wheel. I thought that if I unscrewed the locknut at the handle that I’d have access to the casing- & now it’s totally disconnected. I have a 79 yr old dad who can’t keep his balance. Please tell me how to fix what I’ve screwed up! TIA
Hi Christy, sorry to hear that :( I'll make a video of how to fix it....hopefully you were able to get it fixed up for him
For some seniors their bathroom is very tight. Is there a way to install smaller wheels on the walker?
Such a good question, and a very common concern. We recommend you contact the manufacturer customer service for this one. Take care!
Thank you! Super helpful!
No problem!
(We understand that this is important to get fixed. We recommend that you contact the equipment manufacturer for this question. Thank you for watching!)
Thankyou
You’re welcome 😊
Great video but maybe add how to fold up to put in a vehicle
Can you shorten the brake? I wish my brake wires didn't get snapped on things. I often thought they were way too long and wish I can just cut them down or cover.
What do you do if your wheels get jammed with hair and you can not get it lose or off
my mom has an equate rolling walker and we want to fix it to be a stand up walker... any suggestions
I wouldn't recommend retrofitting a walker to be a stand up walker, if it's not designed for that it can make them tip over. Safer bet would be to check out one like this from amazon: www.amazon.com/OasisSpace-Upright-Rollator-Adjustable-Backrest/dp/B085DFG26W/ref=sr_1_3_sspa?gclid=Cj0KCQjw29CRBhCUARIsAOboZbL2o0XIHprxK5onu_6h4QhYH0fGVQDGeseer-2pt8KWsnoWh_kLBhwaAsdKEALw_wcB&hvadid=323419370790&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9018952&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=6946021058243498162&hvtargid=kwd-644400696646&hydadcr=6356_10674709&keywords=oasis+walker&qid=1647635228&sr=8-3-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExVVhTSEk3OVlFSk4yJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwOTIzMzM4MUIyU0xWVklYNUJBVyZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwODM3MzgyMkFXUE1WVUVSNUFQTSZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=
Still not clear which to adjust top or bottom. Will cable come out if I turn to much?
I'd start with adjusting the top only. YES, if you adjust it too much the cable will come out, be careful
Thank you for the tips.My mom is under Medicare. Is it covered by her insurance?
Hi! It depends on where she lives, we are located in Wisconsin only at this time. If she's outside of our area, I'd encourage her to get connected with a Physical Therapist close to her. I check to make sure walkers are functioning when I do evaluations for balance and mobility. So yes that is covered under Medicare. Have a great day!
@@Deliver_Rehab Why does my left front wheel turn to the left when I use it? It takes the rollator to the left.
Should you stop the. Walker. Moving away. With. Pulling. On the. Brakes
Great question Jane, yes squeezing the brakes will slow it down. Usually if someone is using a rollator/4 wheeled walker like this and it's rolling away on them I recommend trying out a 2 wheeled (front wheeled walker)
Is it possible to extend the height even more, my dad needs his even higher…handles, or wheels…
Great question, Lark! We recommend you contact the manufacturer customer service for this question. Take care!
Life saver
Glad to help Layla!
If you rejects advise ... That totally disconnects your brakes.
Why some jerk gets enjoyment about lying how to correct brakes for a walker to people who are disabled. What a jerk.
Terribly sorry that happened to you, just trying to make helpful videos that we get questions on from patients. If your brake is disconnected you could try taking it back to the place you received it from, maybe than can replace it or repair it for you. Take care
I have one similar to this one, but the clicking when you roll it is terrible. Anything I can do to stop the clicking noise?
Sometimes the brake cable on the bottom by the wheels snaps every time it passes over the wheel, kind of like baseball cards on a bicycle wheel. Check there first?
I'm 4'11. The seat on mine is too high. Can it be lowered so I can actually sit on it? We bought it used and there was no manual.
Good question. Some rollator walkers have adjustable seats and some do not. Do you know what brand/model it is?
What if the height handles slip no matter how tight they are tightened?
Thanks for reaching out, Edward. We would recommend contacting the manufacturer for this. Take care!
I put the wheel wrong any way to take it out? I think it’s stuck ;(
Not sure on that one, I believe they're designed to only go in and not come back out. Might have to contact a local durable medical supply store and see if they can assist you.
Where is the serial number?
Hi Bev, we recommend you contact the manufacturer customer service for this question. Take care!
What is the cable come loose out from the handle ?
I would contact the manufacturer for that one. Take care!
I cannot fit my the brakes into the hole.
Sorry Barbra :( if that's still happening can you describe it more and I can try to assist
- Sam
On mine on the arms washer on inside is that correct
Those kind are dangerous. The small wheels would get stuck in the sidewalk gaps and I’d fall forward. I don’t like that kind of walker anymore.
Doesnt work
Thank you👍🏽
Our pleasure, Indah!
