I got to see Dan 30 years ago in Seattle, he was trying to teach us west coasters a little Hydronics. The poor guy probably thought of giving it up after he got done with us. Thank god he didn’t. He is a treasure to the steam world as are you!! Thank you.
Our Boston area 1927 home still had one as the primary heat source when we bought it in 1996. It had been converted to oil, and later natural gas by the time we came around. We replaced it and had all the snow, aka asbestos, removed after our first winter. Later I found the instructions up in the floor joists that listed the types of coal to use.
Ideal boilers opened a factory in 1906 in hull uk making domestic and commercial boilers and radiators, the factory is still there today and you can still buy ideal products, I have a 1950 catalogue that was my dad’s

Educational as always! Thank you!
Love your way of explaining the old and the new. The phrase "boiler erotica" got me all steamed up 😂

beautiful Indiana Jones reference. You chose wisely!
Fantastic explanation.
Thank you!
Never had a low water cutoff, or a firomat oil valve at the burner. But it survived.
I personally did shake the handle you mentioned (on the left side)
until 1961. Similar boiler but NOT STEAM. Hot water gravity. coal fired.
Do you still have these spence type W pilots for sale. with weight.
the biggest issue is how to get them to denmark.

@@gordonschweizer5154 is that a link.
They don’t make them like they used to!!
Very true!
But that might not be altogether bad.
These boilers, coal or oil (and in some cases, gas) too often had the fuel efficiency of a camp fire.
Is that a dryer vent going into the chimney?
I am sorry to say, yes.
That's the way I found it.
The owner hopes to correct that soon.
Pan cake boiler
Exactly right.
This customer thinking of bringing this old system back to life with a new boiler?

Gas, hot air heat now?
They have a boiler on the other end of the room.
Yes, forced hot air now.
@@gordonschweizer5154 that's unfortunate. What brought you there?
