Owned an SSL12 for over 7 months now. No problems whatsoever. No idea why the comments are talking shit about them with their "friend's" interface. Overall a great interface with loads of features for the price point (probably the best 4ch interface in the price point and market right now for the home studio), and works great with a Scarlett Octopre Dynamic 👍
i will give you a feedback. I brought a SSL 12 arround 3 months ago (before this i had a focusrite saphire, a m audio mtrack duo, a beringer xenyx 1202 usb). and man, this interface had a lot of power to pull the headphones out (normally use a pair of AKG K240 MK2). is pretty easy to use, the 4k thing is fking fire, and the latency in reason 12 atleast is bassicly 0. is a pretty good interfaze for the money. good video. grettings from Chile
I've had my first SSL2 for a couple years now, and have had absolutely ZERO problems with it. Just sold all my dedicated headphone amps(sub 800bucks) last month simply because I was consistently getting better results from the headphone out of the SSL2. Solid components and build. I don't think there is anything that comes close to these when it comes to price/quality ratio.
I want to invest into the Pure Drive I want to see more vids as you mentioned!!!! This is the 2nd video showing a bit of info so pleassssseeee make more like with a drum kit ,bass and keys!!!!
@@audiorock123 Yes, you can connect them with one single optical cable. That gives you 12 preamps if you are connecting to an Octo or 8 if your connecting to the Quad. (4 preamps are on board the SSL 12) You can use the SSL 12 as monitor control and it has a software with it to view all your monitor controls on screen as well.
Hi, what is your experience like with the difference in pre-amp quality and noise levels between these two? I think I'm only going to get one for now and I am after as low a noise floor as I can afford
@@tomrees9754 SSL12 has great preamps and several options. Really all you need. I would only expand to a Quad or Octo if you want to record drums. Another option for expansion is the Clarette Octo pre reasonably priced. You can connect the SSL12 & Focusrite Clarrett Octo via ADAT to give you a total of 12 channels if needed. ADAT optical cable from SSL12 to the Octo and in the SSL12 software control panel, select “ADAT” instead of “internal”. That’s it. Easy!
Agreed with Jason Baretto, got my SSL 12 last year, got two synths and a mic connected 24x7. I dumped my UAD apollo duo for this. It sounds better than the apollo lol. I still use uad plugins through uad spark. Love SSL products rn, thinking of buying a SSL six
I just got my SSL 2+ and love It. I mainly use It for recording bass tracks for work. But I will be using It in conjunction with my PreSonus studio one 6 DAW for composing . Again love It.
I just wish they would make a rackmount version of the Big SiX, like a trimmed down version. I've heard great things, and I need 16 channels, but I don't want a whole mixer!
Yep... The 360 does not support the 2 and 2+. Mainly because it doesn't need all that advanced routing options (they just put a blend knob). But yeah.. they made the 2 channel ones feeling left out.
Got one a few days ago, would love for the gain to be controlled via the software as-well. The knobs are extremely sensitive and its almost impossible to set a stereo signal coming in on two channels closer than +-2db which really is a bit of a deal breaker for me...
They are not electronically controlled through the software. Which is weird cause it makes more sense to have it done in the software if it's supported. I don't understand SSL. Still seems like a good interface to buy... For me
Can you connect two octo preamps together and USBC one ove them into Windows for 16 channels of input? Not sure how to set up monitoring from what you mentioned, it does seem weird we can't stack them for windows.
I watched your piano video ,, Good stuff .. I Just purchased 2 -OCTOS & 1 QUAD. How would you set these up for 20 I/O's @ 96 if I could... with a Windows PC ? Would I run 3 USB to PC? I know I can do over ADAT but wont get 20 @ 96k I would loose 4 channels right? I know i can Run them thru my Soundcraft UI24r as just pre's I suppose .. I may have to switch back to MAC? any advice?
Still there no A-B comparison to be seen. Why? Because today you cant hear the difference between a 100 dollar and 3.000 dollar interface. .. quality differences? sure, features? sure, actual audio ....
@@guybuddy1 Yes. It is very inexpensive. On their side they just need the circuit board to support it + the plastic port (which is very cheap). It adds up a bit to the manufacturing cost but it is negligible.
@@andesneko I mean do you have a ballpark estimate on the production cost(with/ without the ADAT out) and how much the SSL2 would end up costing if it were to have it.
Or, you could use the ssl as a preamp only and insert as line in on your focusrite. But to expand the number of record tracks of your focusrite, to use the ssl with your interface it needs to have ADAT in. It probably does

I always hate when interface companies advertise ADAT I/O as 8 channels. That only works on low sample rates from the 90's, and even then studios operated at higher quality and downsampled when rendering. The octopre cannot output 8 channels of the advertised 192khz 32bit sample rate over ADAT. It's shady advertising and EVERY interface company does it.

Having run many of the best converters, I can say that the conversion in my big six is phenomenal

That’s when you buy the 500 series and make your own. I purchased two in my mix bus chain and like the sound!

Can you please help me, which one do you recommend as first interface audient id 4 mk2, scarlett solo 4 gen or volt 1?
Why does the SSL12 not have monitor mix? SSL2+ has it
Yeah thats a dumb omission. Was going to get whole system but now it just looks like a compromise. That monitor mix control was gonna be so handy.

I don't understand the lack of ADAT out.
Most people don't need it, and if they had included it the price would have gone up considerably.

Does the SSL360 work with SSL2+?
Can I use the pure drive quad with my focusrite 18i20? Output from ssl to input of focusrite?

SSL has been deprecated for years. You should be using at least TLS 1.2.
Golden
Attention, be Careful!!! It doesn't work with windows 11.
The 2+ works fine on windows 11 for me
just got my ssl12. build quality sucks. 4K button jams hard to turn off. Just knicking the line buttons activates them. something aint right.
built quality is poor, i owend 2 ssl+ and ssl12. channel buttons don´t need to be pushed to aktivate i was enough to simply touch it....frustrating
I use SPDIF for Axe FX so I guess that’s me out…..
THEY REMOVED THE TOP RIGHT MONITOR KNOB THAT IS FOUND ON THE SSL2+😒
Yep LAME ill pass. Wouldve bought whole system if it had that feature still

PSA: pretty shit quality, they feel plasticky and my friend's SSL 2+ unit broke after 6 months
Odd, had mine for over 3 years now, and no issues.
My focusrite never worked well after just tripping on the cord.
No problems over here. What is he doing with it? Throwing it in a bag, elbow drops and body slams? 😂
These guys are shills 😅
22:10 no, do not aggregate your devices without considering your clocking. Otherwise your tracks WILL NOT line up correctly.
