Though I don't pretend to know the level of pain that comes from losing your entire family to genocide, I have lost an older brother and two of my young cousins to violence. I know what it's like to re-read last text messages, to go looking for people who are no longer there, and to go through your days frozen in numbness. My heart breaks for Ahmed as it breaks for every loved one lost to this blatant violence. I feel a guilt and a sadness that is seemingly unequaled, but in that grief I make a promise to myself that I will never forget. I will never forget the lives lost at the hands of Israel, zionists, my home country the US, militarization, colonization, supremacists, and human greed and antipathy. I will remember this time and how we watched, most of us in silence.

I was moved to tears while listening to Ahmed talking about his father & his family. Thank you for having him on your video to speak. Losing so many family members must have been so hard emotionally. I can only imagine that a person would become numb emotionally.
