I loved how the music literally came from the speakers inside the levels, and if you destroyed them the music would disappear until you got close to another, and if you destroyed every speaker the whole level would go silent. It was fascinating to me as a kid, to me the music was outside the game, and this game just destroyed that concept.
Another very neat feature: If you had the N64 RumblePak attached to the controller and neared a speaker, you might have noticed that they synced the bass with the Pak, meaning it would vibrate in sync with the music's BPM.

I found out a few days back that the guys behind Crash Bandicoot 4 might bring this back, but i am not sure.

This was probably my favourite level, along with Jungle Japes and Penguin Playpen
I remember trying to squish that missile shooting dog under that big block of hay, but the timing was always off, and it never seemed to work x_x
