Once you pull the string under the feed, there is no turning back. And changing out a heavy barrel is no joke. The way you are doing it is the smart way. I enjoy watching!!
Haha! I chuckled right when Lorraine and Penelope laughed there at the end, which made chuckle more. Glad you weren't hurt by the flying wheel thingy. I'm tired of the cold already and I don't have livestock water to break up. Take care and God Bless!
So that vewers like me don't feel so bad, please mess up your kitchen a little bit for the next video...😊 All your hard work is paying off this winter.
Hey Jason, I don’t know if you are aware but hazelnuts are great food for pigs! Also it is a shrub , not a tree and bares fruit in a year. You may want to consider planting some around the pig area to supplement you food supply.
I live in Melbourne, Australia and yesterday it was 42 degrees Celsius, which is about 107 Fahrenheit… I would gladly swap the weather with you guys…. Love watching your channel ❤
Along with cold in January comes flu season. Stay home, take care of yourself, no conferences. Whenever there's a homestead conference, the homesteaders start getting sick. Thanks for always bringing a smile. 🙏🏻
Oh my goodness! The pulley broke on you again! Love the insulated bibs, Lorraine. They're the best! So happy the chickens behaved in the high tunnel. 💚🌞
An electric cable winch could be very helpful and probably won't cost the world. We use them as boat lifts in combination with idlers to get the boats out of the lake. They are so handy.
Get hand warmers for your gloves and pockets. They bring a level of comfort that is wonderful on a cold day. Keep shaking them and they will last 6 hours or longer. I'm addicted to them..I call them hot pockets! ha!
Jason, I understand the cold and animals very well. I live in southern Indiana. I'm hoping that our ice and snow goes away soon. I'm praying for an early spring.
🇦🇺Having shelters with the black water tanks in each pasture would be a great back up water supply especially in the winter. Even having multiple black tanks per shelter would be good. You never know if something might happen frozen pipes, droughts etc.
Well done Guys & loved Lorraine's comments about having her good pants on. Dinner looked amazing hey I love Steak & Green Beans 😋😋😋 Cheers Denise- Australia
Those are awesome overalls. Coveralls have sleeves and cover all your clothing… Overalls have straps that buckle at your shoulders. Both are awesomely warm! The overalls look cute on you too, Lorraine🩷
Hey Jason!! I admire you and everything you do in the daily. Your work seems to never is done or is never enough. I been watching your channel for a number of years now since you moved from California. I don’t sac episode, and now I never miss the podcast as well.
Hi, Lorraine 👋. . . The coveralls are best a little big. They shrink a bit with each washing and when they fit fashionably comfortable, they don't keep you as warm. That extra space in between layers is what gives the warmth. Each layer of air between layers acts like a baffle or buffer of warmth. In winter loose will keep you warmer ONCE you get moving. In summer it actually does the reverse as it gives a place to sweat and THEN wick the moisture aeay from your skin keeping you cooler. This is why you always used to see farmers in overalls even in summer 😂
Good afternoon. Smart to clear sections when it's too cold 🥶 to dig posts.... Getting something done is a bite out of the whole chore ( elephant 🐘)... Smart!
Love the Pig and chicken content... OINK and cluck-cluck... Farm life has its perks! the joy of hearing all of those funny creatures talking to you and each other. Stay warm!!
Chickens certainly worked hard in the greenhouse and must have help fertilise the soil too. Good trade since they helped and got good winter accommodation in return.
Good Morning Jason and Lorraine. Always love watching your progress. Sow The Land...for the last year gad been the only US Homestead channel I really enjoy..and thanks for all your hard work. Shortage of eggs here...and our prices are always high. 22.c at 6.30 am 👍🇯🇲💚
Love the coveralls 😀 We use our snow pants to go outside in the cold and wind and we can be out way longer and more often in the winter. Its awesome for getting the kids out.
So interesting ur comments on layers in the green house! We built a similar greenhouse, a bit bigger, and we have 55 layers in there, yep, it gets dusty. Being from MN I had to wait for a day above freezing, I drug a hose out and watered down the whole green house ground. Very helpful! I definitely did not want wood chips all over. I did buy a few bags of pine shavings, it helped. Being from MN we got frost built up on the inside of the roll-up sides and eventually they got bored and loved pecking at the ice/ frost 😮💨 put in a couple small holes, I taped them up and put the electric netting all around the sides so they can't do that. It isn't hot, but they just stay away. I am not sure I will put them in there again or not. DEFINITELY toasty warm in there when the sun shines, but not so sure that it is good to fluctuate that much in 24 hours for chickens.
Your videos make me happy. I know “the work” is always present, but your perspective changes everything into a blessing. Lorraine is adorable in her overalls. ❤
When you hung that pulley up in the barn, I thought... gee that hook seems kind of wimpy for lifting a thousand pound bag of feed. But I've seen you do it before and it went just fine. I don't know which part failed, but yeah, please be careful! And I'm glad you talked about having moved the chickens out of the greenhouse because I was wondering... "is this an older episode before they put the chickens in the high tunnel?" I love seeing all the Bernices! 🐔🐓(There should be a black chicken emoji 😄) Hope it warms up for you soon. From equally chilly Maine...❄🌬😊
I love woodchips on garden. Holds moisture in so less watering. Keeps weeds down by a lot (i hardly weed). And as they break down they make my clay predominate soil more black and rich in nutrients. Much more life in the soil now.
I know this was filmed before I watched it, but today, 1/27, it was 50⁰ and sunny after an overnight low of 24. I picked up sticks in my backyard and didn't need a coat. I had a flannel shirt on-usually I wear a sweatshirt if it's cold! We have 40s and 50s forecast all week! Our Des Moines, Iowa, weather!!! Lol.
Hello have you thought leaving the winch hanging there and put you a eye bolt in the wall and hook it over there out of the way. Love watching y'all videos....
The cold is painful for us southerners ❤ I bought some ski overalls to get them fast and fairly cheapfor the cold that was here. I agree with Lorraine about bringing dirty in. Nice to take off in mudroom. Where did Lorraine get hers from? I need a work set of overalls. Thankfully, they say February will be warmer. Blessings to y'all
Jason, is it possible your chickens to get the bird flu being outside 🤔 let us know on your next video what's up on that. Really appreciate it some information thank you for your wonderful videos👍
I work much like you, your very kind to your pigs , My 7 hens I get 1 egg have for pass 2 months, Love your new bib pants, Lorraine, they sure will be a big help, Yup them water pail do freeze up, -5 on the West Coast , Love the rubber ones give them a good kick and out goes the ice LOL
Jason, maybe try going to a salvage yard near you, they may have a heavy duty pulley system not in use anymore for a good price ? Worth a try. Try also looking into grain silos on line, a friend got her's in South Carolina here on the coast. Thank God you have a large barn to store your feed. Lorraine love the coveralls !! Stay warm stay safe and God Bless You and your family. ❤
The block and tackle with chains is still a good way to raise and move heavy loads... We have my uncle's beautiful wooden ones that we use occasionally.
Wow, you were lucky when that thing fell.. both you and Ben have the hardest time with pulley’s.. Stay warm you guys. I’m in southern California and we just had two days of rain! I can’t remember when the last time we had raid! It was so nice! And I’m cold …lol😅
Enjoy your channel! I'm in north central fl..no shorts weather here lately. Except maybe northern recent transplants. Warming now though.. Lived your lifestyle all my 60+ years. Well, not as involved with the outside world. But just living life as my grand parents and elders did...
"Elvira, Elvira, your belly is getting wider Elvira! Soon piggies, soon piggies, soon piggies come out, soon piggies, soon piggies, soon piggies come out. Out you piggies, away! LMAO
Great choice on the bibs Loraine, I just bought some too, they are a game changer!. When I came out to your chicken workshop a couple years back I remember us having the same work pants on. Clearly we have good taste in homestead clothing!
SOW good to see you!!
By all means, take all precautions and don’t ignore your gut feelings on safety. Take good care of yourself and your family. We love you! God bless. ❤
Always good to see The Piggy Back Gang. 😂
Once you pull the string under the feed, there is no turning back. And changing out a heavy barrel is no joke. The way you are doing it is the smart way. I enjoy watching!!

You lucky farmers are so blessed to have wife as smart and hard working=Successful life!
Awesome video!
That steak and green beans look DELICIOUS!!
So that vewers like me don't feel so bad, please mess up your kitchen a little bit for the next video...😊

Another Melbournian here .i too would swap our stinking hot days😂
It was minus 40 Celcius with a windchill of minus 52 last week. The animals and me don’t like it. We will change spots with you ?
If only we could trade you some heat 🔥 for some cold. 🧊 😟
Along with cold in January comes flu season. Stay home, take care of yourself, no conferences. Whenever there's a homestead conference, the homesteaders start getting sick. Thanks for always bringing a smile. 🙏🏻

Bernice is my favorite chicken! 🤗
SOW organized!! 😂😂😂 The fruit of your labor is knowing right where to go to get those buckets! Lorraine, adorable coveralls!
Stay warm and safe
Get hand warmers for your gloves and pockets. They bring a level of comfort that is wonderful on a cold day. Keep shaking them and they will last 6 hours or longer. I'm addicted to them..I call them hot pockets! ha!
I love that you share your ingenuity when you don't have the large equipment helper.
Jason, I understand the cold and animals very well. I live in southern Indiana. I'm hoping that our ice and snow goes away soon. I'm praying for an early spring.

My husband and kids got me a pair of basically ski overall things and they are the best gift I've gotten! It makes outside chores so much better!!
I’m from Michigan, and if buckets of water are freezing, I am NOT wearing shorts! However, I have seen someone surfing in Lake Michigan in February!
So happy to see you again.
Many blessings from North Texas ❤

I even feel warmer up here in New England, just seeing Lorraine with those cozy overalls. 👍
Chickens certainly worked hard in the greenhouse and must have help fertilise the soil too. Good trade since they helped and got good winter accommodation in return.
Spring is around the bend.
I always enjoy your videos!!

Well, that dinner looks like mine the other night except I did not have the second course. Just a 12 oz strip steak and I was happy.
JASON…… Because we are all in this life together… look at the bad oils in your egg roll sauce…We love you folks
Love the coveralls 😀 We use our snow pants to go outside in the cold and wind and we can be out way longer and more often in the winter. Its awesome for getting the kids out.
I love seeing you and your family . And your animals .
Prayers 🙏 and Love 🤟 From Ginger
That was a close call. Glad you didn’t get hurt. Supper looks good. God bless.
Maybe put casters on the barrels and with the quickness roll each barrel under the bottom opening.
Wow... those chicken did a good job in the greenhouse😊
So interesting ur comments on layers in the green house!

There’s a mobile grain hooper that will store the grain as well as filling a bucket and feeding the animals.
Jason
Remember when its really cold
The weather is killing Bugs👍🏻😀🕷️
Linda
from Ct ❤️🙏🙏
You can never have too much hay. We always keep an extra year worth.
David and I always enjoy seeing what you are doing; coveralls are the best for being able to work outside.
I love woodchips on garden. Holds moisture in so less watering. Keeps weeds down by a lot (i hardly weed). And as they break down they make my clay predominate soil more black and rich in nutrients. Much more life in the soil now.

You have a clever way to get your feed out of the trailer and into the barrels! Thank You for Sharing~!
Build a table/frame for the bulk bag, high enough for the bins to fit under and open the bags bottom - choking the bag when the bin is full...
Your animals look so happy
See you procrastinated, long enough that the cold weather is now helping you.
You need an outside apron for dirty tasks to keep the coveralls clean 😊
-21 in Southwest NH last week. Been in the single digits every night!

This Saturday, here in British Columbia, Canada 🇨🇦 is dropping to -38C 🥶🥶🥶🥶
Jason, is it possible your chickens to get the bird flu being outside 🤔 let us know on your next video what's up on that. Really appreciate it some information thank you for your wonderful videos👍
I love watching the pigs, they are so funny and oddly cute! 🙂
Blessings Hombre'' stay warm. Diggin Lorraines Eskimo outfit 🤣😂❄️❄️🙏🙏
Sow ready for warmer weather!

For a tractor to move those wood chips! 🚜
thank you kindly
Blessings!
Thanks for sharing and taking us along

Ha Ha Ha. the chickens had a least 1 hiding spot when in the greenhouse I bet, hope you find it sooner then later that could get stinky. Keep warm.
"Elvira, Elvira, your belly is getting wider Elvira! Soon piggies, soon piggies, soon piggies come out, soon piggies, soon piggies, soon piggies come out. Out you piggies, away! LMAO
Pigs sound like a couple of Tauntauns from SW Empire Strikes Back.
We just had 6 inches of snow last week here in the FL Panhandle. I feel your pain
Make a trough with a large homemade funnel that you put under the feed that flow into your barrels. Like a cement truck chute.
A large pvc pipe may work
Great choice on the bibs Loraine, I just bought some too, they are a game changer!. When I came out to your chicken workshop a couple years back I remember us having the same work pants on. Clearly we have good taste in homestead clothing!
Lorraine: Warm is so in fashion. You look great! I think I'll get my wife a pair.
Hay in the high tunnel for the chickens mixed with droppings turns into great mulch for your veggies
Thank you. Love your videos.
Take heart by Sunday we are having feels like minus 40 overnight
The laugh at the end was funny!!
You should make boxes on the pallets to wheel under the bag then pull your string
cold there? No, in Norway it's cold 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great job
I thought you were going to get a cow! Not the best time of the year to do it, but you'd definitely need more hay!
Now I understand why the navy made us wear hardhats. Even if we weren't lifting a load over our heads. Be careful my friend.
👍👍yep 100% agree on wearing coveralls!
You need a surge bin to empty your super sac into, it has open and close lever.
You will have a problem when you pull the sting on the bag and the 1st barrel is full you will not beable to shut the flow of feed from overflowing
Always refreshing to watch!! best wishes!
