I found a M-56 belt with 2 M-14 pouches, butt pack, 2 canteens with cups/pouches, H LBE , first aid pouch, for $ 65.00. At an Army surplus store. Now that was a find, all looked new.
I worked at a surplus store in the early 90's right out of high school. There was hundreds of bins of never issued 80's gear like this for $1-$2. You could build an entire set up BDU's, battle belt with butt pack, canteen, ammo pouches, helmet, Alice pack with frame, the old jungle boots, etc,.. and all the fixings for under $70.
When I was a kid in the 1960's, my friends and I used to go down to the local Army surplus store. There we would find equipment from World War II, that to us, looked brand new. That equipment was so dirt cheap, even we kids could afford to outfit ourselves just like Audie Murphy, when we played " Army". Lol!
Man, what a great video & topic idea. Those of us with a crippling addiction to Milsurp gear will just love this vid. You have a bunch of cool gear I've never seen before. Thanks for the show and tell! See you soon. ALSO: I got a free pair of those yellow foam ear plugs in the bottom of a used TAPS rig I bought. Naturally, they were already very-well used. Haha. Gross.
Hey Booney, I'm still here my brother. Just been busy with life and its problems. Thanks for keeping it coming with the videos. It really does help out my friend
I love the old school military surplus! Have a good bit of it. Got 3 of the wool field shirts and bout five of the wool sweaters, only two of them I can wear. Some stuff I don’t have anymore. I agree these items are very warm and comfortable, wear mine every winter. Gonna wear the sweater today. Have two of the canvases butt packs, love them, use them as a haversack, very versatile since I can put my canteen on it. Got the pistol/equipment belt with the old style like yours, I like it the best. Now I have to have the large size . Got the pup tent mosquito net, had it since the eighties. Really enjoy these videos!
that was a great find brother, really nice. I don't know if I would try eating those rations, but hey , go for it. I absolutely loved my jungle boots, for as uncomfortable as they were on hard surfaces. you could run across a cement floor covered in oil and never slip. they were great. Dwayne
You obviously didn’t have the wool field jacket liner and pants liner…now you need a set of wool pants for your shirt. All the c rations I ate had been inspected and repackaged no smokes…dehydrated pork patty was the worst of the early MREs in my opinion. Have fun stay safe.
Old gear is really cool nowadays. I saved mine all these years (88-92). I have since been collecting the cotton canvas m56 gear. I have a vietnam era but pack I got at surplus in NC for luke $12 in 1990. Its worth a bunch now but Im gonna pass it down to the grandkids eventually.
Good video john and ahh the memories when I went In the army 1981 I went to cav scout school and be for I got to me unit I was asked to reclass as a 11m mechanized infantry scout they said had enough 19d so the went that lol
Outstanding video my friend…‼️ Great to hear that you got a great deal too…‼️ Question/ have you or your Dad ever seen or had issued the sleeping bag made from a wool blanket…??? I found one on E bay and did a short video on it… Great piece of gear indeed… Thanks for sharing and Stay Strong 💪🏻 Brother…‼️
Which is better the metal buckle or the plastic quick release buckle? Does the quick release buckle being plastic ever break or should I look for a belt with a metal buckle?
The metal buckle will last forever -- I have yet to see a polymer one that hasn't degraded. Get a metal buckle one while you can -- they're getting hard to find!
Some of the items you have their I still have mine from when I was in the army the only thing was on the you didn't mention the pound cake the pecan roll and The Fruitcake pecan roll was the better one
I wounder what mine would go for .i have a lot of my web gear .2 canteen but pack pistol belt m7 the hole works . I git it in 69 it was used before me ofcourse

The sweater aka wooly-pulley was phased out, but many of us refused to give them up, even with the poly-pro long underwear
12:32 you’ll have to get it out onto a tray.
..... Nice!
You beat me to it😊😅..thanks
