  • @nickthejack
    @nickthejack 2 года назад +14

    6:23 draymond green does so much insanely good defence in like 2 seconds in this clip. The early rotation to the perfect spot in the middle, pointing at the open man as well as talking so curry knows exactly where to rotate to, and attacking the ball to freeze it just long enough for curry to rotate and stop the open three. All that in a split second. What a player. Probably the best all around defender of all time

    Great breakdown! The Mavs need to tweak their system if they want to go further in the Playoffs. Steve Kerr has shown how to stop their offense this year and prior to this, Tyronn Lue haunted the Mavs for years. It's a good thing Jason Kidd is in his first year, meaning he still has a lot more to bring to the Mavs. Hopefully they get somewhere close to a championship because not being so is a waste of a generational talent like Luka.

    • @djkai459
      @djkai459 2 года назад

      Honestly it was so sad to watch mavs having to play 5 out bc their best players were all point guards being brunson, dinwiddie, and luka so they had to go small ball. Do remember Mavs had the number one offense but poor defense two years ago. Now mavs became a good defending team with poor offense.

    What you fail to mention is this defense goes back to Kerr's days in Arizona. They used this 1-2-2 / 3-2 / 2-3 defense there and he implemented and tweeked it a bit for GSW.

    The Warriors used a lot of these concepts against the Houston 5 out offenses led by Harden. They took away the paint and the Rockets famously bricked their way out of the series.

    In the '91 finals, in the first game, MJ was on Magic. Then in the 2nd game and till Game 5, it was Pippen-lock. Magic was bewildered and couldn't believe it. In this WCF, Wiggins was the Pippen-lock on Luka, and Luka was bewildered and couldn't believe it.

    • @mostmost1

      Not true! MJ stayed on Magic. Pippen guarded him in certain situations. Never a whole game.

  • @jasperbrooks4938
    @jasperbrooks4938 2 года назад +5

    As a big man, the best thing to do against Luka seems to be staying down on all of the fakes and make him shoot over your length and height. Even if you get a bad contest it's better than him getting you in the air to draw a foul or just score with an easy layup.

  • @martyemmons1859
    @martyemmons1859 2 года назад +2

    When I watched this series, I heard the sports analysts predict that the Warriors had no defense for Luka. 'They' all said the Warriors are too short/small, and that Doncic would easily do whatever he wanted to do.
    After the Mavericks lost the series 4-1; the story changed to: the Mavs were out of their depth, that PHX should've been in the Western Conference Finals.
    The reason I've given your video a 'like' is because you're actually giving the Warriors the credit for being Champions.
    I'm especially upset because the narrative for the NBA Finals; Bos vs GSW, is how 'unworthy' the Celtics were to be there. The sports analysts could not stop talking about how inept Jayson Tatum (historic amount of turn overs), Jaylen Brown (pathetic scoring) and Marcus Smart (the flop-meister) played.

    Very consistent of the Warriors defensive philosophy. They never over help when they have to they have the personnel AND the methods to consistently keep to their scheme (communication, pre switch or peel switching to perfection). Which is how they can keep Steph off match up hunts but also put him in the favorable off-ball positions.

    Thanks for giving Kerr credit for the Warrior's success. i wonder what other coach would have seen Green's potential, allowed Curry to be himself, and convinced Iguodala to come off the bench. He also saw that David Lee, once considered one of the Warriors best players, did not fit with what was their proper, completely original style of play. Everyone loves the way the Warriors play, but no one else seems able to imitate it.

Would you stick them on PJ Tucker and have them show so when he’s a screener you don’t have to worry about him floating to the 3p line above the break. Clearly a better corner guy and if you can contain him on the short roll and not give up ORBs it could be worth a look.

    OI, rephrase that, plz!...GSW do not need to "HIDE" Steph Curry, and they DON'T!!
    #30 is more often the cause of breakdowns and turnovers when teams try to attack HIM
    cos HE initiates the chaos and redo/switch so the rest of the defense has a straightforward job to do!!!
    Also, games won/lost with both teams shooting under 45% indicate their defenses were the "highlights", not the scoring...
