    I recommend buying unpacked potatoes if they are available at your local store. They should pretty much always be cheaper than the packaged ones. Same goes for onions and well pretty much anything. A package might seem to have reasonable pricing but if you check the price per kilo (small letters under the main price tag), you might find cheaper unpacked veggies.

    U probly should buy those reusable grocery bags they cost abit but they are also really well made and u could most likely fit all those inside 1 bag.

    If you want to be healthier, you could replace the cereals with oat meal. 1 kg of oat meal costs about 1.50-2.00 euros. And if you get a package with bran, a nice bowl of porridge with lots of fiber will feed good microbes in your gut. Also, carrots, onions and cabbage are very cheap. Lots of vitamins and fiber to keep you healthy. Rye bread might be a little bit more expensive than Xtra white bread but it will keep hunger away much longer. Stay well and healthy, bro!

    If you want to save even more, do the shopping after 8 PM or 9 PM (or really early at morning if it's not like 24hr store) and look for those items that has the discount sticker (-30% or -60% are the most common) meaning the expiry date is next day or so but if you freeze (and cook if necessarily before freezing) them you can use them much later.

    Xtra is a good one, as a student i approve.😅 I wanna know, now that the Real Finnish winter has arrived and the temperatures have been kinda crazy during some days, how have you been coping? Did you ever have this cold of a weather back home? I live in Lahti, so this is pretty much down South, but its still been pretty cold, im sure it has been even worse up there.😅

  • @oh2mp

    Most of those Xtra products are at least as good as more expensive products that have fancier brands. Very informative video for them who are curious about the food prices in Finland. BTW did you know that you have the northernmost Lidl in the World there in Sodankylä?

    For some products its whatever if you buy cheap or expencive brands, but for things like ketchup for example, felix or heinz just tastes so much better.

      He went to Sodankylä S-market. We actually have the northern most lidl in Finland and the world here. Food is more expensive in the north due to transportation costs but Lidl has the same price for all stores. So it's even cheaper here compared to s-group or kesko. I've heard some people come as far as Ivalo/Inari for Lidl.

    • @murrrr8288

      It's just advertising. Lidl prices vary by the store.

    • @sarekosti72
      @sarekosti72 5 месяцев назад

      @@murrrr8288 I frequently travel/live between Lohja and Sodankylä. There is definitely a difference of price when going to S-market and Kesko. You can notice it in the receipt prices, it adds up. Lidl however is always about the same price anywhere. Every single item might not be the exact same price, but across Finland they average about the same. I'm not sure what that ad was referencing, but at least the prices on the weekly lidl tarjouslehti are the same everywhere.

    I have bought packaged potatoes once, and it was my last time. They were horrible. Didn't soften at all when boiled, and only broke down. It might have been just one bad sample, but the unpackaged potatoes cost the same, and you can pick the potatoes you like.

    It's possible to make broth with the chicken bones and parts you don't eat. Also vegetable scraps like onion skin make excellent broth. If you want to eat healthier, you could leave the sausages out and buy some veggies with the money. You can get quite many with few euros to vary your food. Single chili, piece or ginger, garlic, onion etc dont cost many cents
