Spot on, each wrx post 98 requires a reflash / piggyback to deal with the adjustment to airflow. The most common first mods are: Rear adj sway, turbo back, air filter / pod and a reflash.
I have heard that if your WRX is tuned for performance driving around with the butterfly valve closed is not good for it. Should only be be used in an 'emergency'
Used to do this in the 80's with choke cable and straight pipe welded before the exhaust system. They were called cut-outs. The 1969 and 1970 Pontiac GTO had this option from the factory
@911Dreda11 A multitude of muffers exist but the whole point of a muffler is to "muffle" the exhaust, usually send the gas through a baffle system which quiets the car down, or usually does, some poor quality mufflers will just make things very loud, but thats ok if you have a track car, not so good if you are looking at a defect with the cops. Which is why the varex is perfect, i'm ordering the twin tips, they look stock and it will sound great under WOT and like a stock car with the valve .
I Installed a Audi s4 exhaust on an Audi A5. A5 original exhaust was to loud. Kept getting pulled over. Did it ever make a difference sound with outside valves closed.
I thought about doing this to my R56, but just gonna stick with the single exhaust and make it louder. Awesome idea though to make it a dual exhaust running one each side. Looks unique but professional - really well done.

@PhatArtz Double clutch, yes. But they are typically less fun. The paddle shifters on most rally cars are simply a sequential manual and almost no touring car class uses an auto/dsg. It's only the higher budget forms of motorsport where they have the money to develop dual clutch gearboxes. Whether a double clutch is better on the road is up to the driver. If you're good with a manual, you'll probably miss it. If you're hopeless with a manual, you won't have the satisfaction to miss. :)
mutilator97 yes i know i take my statement back. Theres this guy with a 2000 honda civic ex or lx whatever it is and he just ripped everything out from header back. Now thats rice
The thing is, removing your exhaust anywhere before the cat(in a vehicle with it) will make your car so slow due to lack of back-pressure, that it can't even go faster than 5 mph or climb any kind of incline. As for removing your air filter, I'm pretty sure that will actually lose horses more than anything(immediate effect), and your car will gunk up in the long run due to all the crap allowed in after having unfiltered it.
The only thing a straight six will beat a V8 in, is revs. It will inherently rev higher due to perfect weight balance across the cylinders, whereas the V8 has a slight imbalance, which makes that awesome V8 sound.

***** I got a Honda Accord (93) with a giant exhaust can on it. Police get behind me all the time but never do anything. They really don't seem to care. Probably because guys around here have old chevy's with big blocks in them that are twice as loud from under the hood.
in some situations places dont allow you to enter if your car is too loud and sometimes it can get annoying if you drive long distances alot with that loud noise.
I like it, sometimes loud but other times I just don't want to hear my car all day while run around, at night I can open it up and hear that wonderful sound
True, here you can have a cutout only if its bolted closed when operated on the street. It must be bolted and not electronic or cable activated. It must also withstand full throttle operation without leaking or popping loose. Also, your vehicles sound cannot surpass 110 Decibels at peak.
Using a ford power window motor to operate the butterfly valve!??!!!? I wouldnt trust that your valve opens and closes for long. Those window motors fail frequently in normal operation; i can only imagine how quickly they will fail when exposed to exhaust temp.
The motor has an average life-time under normal conditions. The motor in this system is not located in the exhaust system inline with flow. Don't talk out of your ass.

i don't think so.. I don't think either have a BOV, just an internal wastegate. A BOV releases pressure into the engine bay (so you'd hear it at the same frequency regardless of exhaust) where-as a wastegate dumps the pressure into the exhaust itself, so by definition the volume of the wastegate would be reduced when you close the butterfly valve on the varex.. and that's exactly what happens

Maybe things are different in Australia are different, but here, in the US there are 3 problems with this. 1) because it is a fart can muffler with an exhaust bypass, when a cop pulls you over for it being too loud, he can clearly see that you have an exhaust bypass, because the bypass is all the way at the end of the exhaust, which will show up in his report on the ticket, making it so you can't beat the ticket. 2) It is a fart can muffler and it sounds like a fart can. 3) Only douches drive WRX's.
How is it a fart can? Either its a straight pipe or its a bibass. Fartcans makes your car sound like someone farting. In what way does this do that. Yes you are a noob with a 911.
also... couldnt get this in the states, had to pay $120 shipping from Aus, plus installation this muffler set me back $500 USD. it doesn't whistle when not under pressure (like the video shows with the car in neutral).it whistles because the butterfly is right in the middle of the air passage way creating an obstruction which creates the whistle sound!!
GM Already has this Available from Factor in the Corvette, but works off the TP Sensor and tells the Exhaust plates how much to open and close to let more air flow and to keep back pressure at lower RPM's.
TRX450R Vlogger It used to be connected to a fuse on the exterior fuse box which you can remove and be loud at all times, though they have removed this from the C7 Corvettes.
Are you fuckin kiddin? When you close it,what happens? When you change backpressure from high to low and back to high with turbo engines, what does your ecu say? Look at your wideband-you will run rich in no time. Almost no stock ecu can handle it. So what the hell are YOU referring at?
+sskkuuddrraa There's no back pressure regardless whether you open or close the damn thing. Rewatch the video as he explains, it has a continuous flow of exhaust throughout the whole muffler.
+sskkuuddrraa you fail to see the seperate layers in the whole chamber allowing constant exhaust flow. Quit acting like you know what you're talking about, dumbass.
You would say the houses if you were referring to a neighborhood, so how did I prove your statement? Your right, making a word singular does not give it a completely different meaning...it lets you know your referring to one thing as opposed to many....
I know the Subaru sounds pretty nice with the muffler, however If your basically straight piping your exhaust, and sticking a coffee can at the back. aren't you losing horse power due to loss of backpressure. I think I may have saw a cat, though the cat is on I wouldn't think that would create enough back pressure. So is this muffler a actual muffler and help power?
DragonKnighte2798 Back pressure is undesirable in all circumstances. What you're looking for is gas velocity. N/a cars benefit from keeping exhaust gas velocity high, to help scavenge the cylinders. Smaller pipes give higher gas velocity to a point, but if you go too small they reduce maximum flow. If you go bigger than what you need to flow enough gas for maximum performance, you're just losing more gas velocity without any gain, hence you start to lose power, especially in the low and midrange. Gas velocity, not back pressure!
Why would someone want to be "look at me I'm loud"? Also, how does this improve the car's performance? I wouldn't get this as I'm not an import fanatic, but this technology looks cool.
i had been thinking about throwing something like this together, i was thinking of running exhaust dump right off the manifold, then run a quiet muffler through the closed side of the dump, and either open valve or a mean sounding muffler when the exhaust dump is open
Wonder how much affects power though. No way the valve closed setting is flowing enough for peak performance should you need to overtake on the highway and forget to open the valve beforehand.
When I was young, I loved it, now that I am older, I dont always want my car very loud, it is nice to be able to switch it.
let me rephrase some drivers want the performance of a large diameter exhaust but dont always want the cops

Varex muffler inside! Smartass..stop bullshitting.

God that looks bad
Gas velocity, not back pressure!
yes you too can go from shit sound to even more shitty sound at a push of a button !!!
haha good one lol
Why would someone want to be "look at me I'm loud"?
Also, how does this improve the car's performance?
I wouldn't get this as I'm not an import fanatic, but this technology looks cool.
SHUT UP AND LET ME JUST LISTEN TO A COMPARISON! FFS!

Omg this video 14 years ago old
ricer talk
This is actually in some top of the line sports cars, they just look nicer and are more integrated into the car's electronics system.
this is so cringy
i had been thinking about throwing something like this together, i was thinking of running exhaust dump right off the manifold, then run a quiet muffler through the closed side of the dump, and either open valve or a mean sounding muffler when the exhaust dump is open
rice rice babby
Rice rice baby
do they make for Mercedes C250 i need 2x for quad exhaust or is there a uni fit that will suit.
Wonder how much affects power though.
No way the valve closed setting is flowing enough for peak performance should you need to overtake on the highway and forget to open the valve beforehand.
I am seeing this video 13years later in this corona pandemic 2020
Where does the gases get redirected when the buttlerfly is closed?
is that the person who helped mcm build the mini and super gramps
@2buck4dH8rz it can vary but it may be either just a muffler or an entire tubing set from the exhaust of your engine
Which one is more high flow , the canon or oval ??
