Even if Double Tracking Is not Possible one thing can be done i.e. alternative days running. One day From Veer to Mangalore the next Day from Mangalore to Veer. This can have a greater impact to save time and cover the route very fast. This may have an Impact on train scheduling timetable for a while but that can be sorted out in near future. In emergencies the NH 66 can be preferred as it is on the verge of getting the highway completed by four laning.

Given that RO-RO are so successful, for the benefit of the drivers and assistants who spend so much time in their trucks, can IR/ KR just add one pantry car right in the front, right next to the loco and caboose? That way drivers and assistants can buy fresh food, will have toilet facilities and also maybe have a small entertainment section in it so they can sit and watch a movie or something. This will greatly benefit the drivers and assistants who spend days on end in their trucks and also make it extremely popular with the truckers.

I agree. There is no will to run such trains. One Rajya Sabha MP Mr. Sahastrabuddhe also proposed one similar kind of train should run daily between JNPT-Vadodara/ Ahemdabad, which will reduce cost of transportation, time & majorly traffic of between Panvel-Thane (esp Ghodbandar Rd) + Mumbai Ahemdabad Highway. But sadly both the zones Central + Western didn't coordinated properly resulting this Ro-Ro service was shut down immediately.
Maybe not. Because of the terrain maybe too much traffic jam if roads are not 6 lanes at least which I don't think is quite possible there and not to forget Konkan coast and ghats attract a great amount of tourists because of the peace and scenic beauty. So maybe we'll see what happens
I hope that DFCCIL (dedicated freight corridor) by virtue of being a PSU will deploy such Ro-Ro services on a larger scale and with more competitive pricing due to the usage of electric/new diesel locomotives.

Suresh Prabhu did doubling of track from Roha to Veer, but his succesor PG was interested only in *Malai* and took up electrification of single track Konkan railway knowing very well that track was saturated for more train traffic. Rupees 1287 crores was spent on electrification purpose.Ofcourse there would some obstacles in doubling of tunnels but still major chunk of route could be doubled

Indigo gives flexibility like non other. Indigo connects Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities even. Most of the airlines are limited to national capital and state capitals and not to other cities but Indigo is. That's why rest companies are failing to do so. Indigo has almost last I checked around 300 planes, they connect small cities too with big cities and give connecting flights that too without change of planes/or if change then Indigo planes only. So they have grabbed the domestic market like no other.

But not to forget we've a large population and most of the people still use trains, whereas the countries operating with Emirates like UAE or Lufthansa, they've a very small population and small geosurface, they're small by population and by mass, so being a small country they need very less domestic and more international flights whereas we in India need almost equal amount of domestic as well as International flights.
