I have come to learn that the song was performed at the interval during UMK24! Makes sense being they were not on the list of finalist for this venue! Which, if this were a song for the contest, they would have won!
I have tried to leave comments but they get deleted. RUclips auto-deletes comments so I guess that's why. It's a shame since it means I can't give you the info that you're asking for.😞
@danebramageROCKS, Hi there, Thanks again for another video! Such a joy. This time I'll recommend you to check out Elastinen feat. Käärijä - Toiset samanlaiset 😁👍
Believe me, if Käärijä only had made a submission to UMK again, we all would have voted for him in a heartbeat without even thinking twice! 😅 I know you really like Käärijä, but I'm not sure if you have really realised how much us finnish people love him 😁 He is basically our national treasure at this point. This was only an interval act though, which you have apparently already figured out. But the song! And the performance! It is EPIC! Well, I wouldn't expect anything less from him.
Yeah if this an actualy submission, it would have won. Hands down. This is great to hear that people hold him in such high regard and I get it. I am proud of him for you all. And proud of you all for him.
Jere is truly a special unicorn of a man.. I found myself somewhat attracted to him physically, but even more for his soul/spirit/mind. Just a beautiful person inside and out. And then there;s that reality of him sweeping Bojan from SLovenia off his feet! That is the biggest Bromance I've ever seen!
@@ZakhadWOW you may or may not be surprised how many people are attracted to Kaarija. I think he transcends the usual tastes of a lot of people (certainly mine) and his magical qualities just draw you in. I thought he was ultra attractive from the first time I saw him perform at UMK last year.
The whole Europe loves him honestly. Went to London with my boyfriend to see him perform live and boyfriend basically fell in love with him. He is so good live.
@Hosigie He is! ❤ I love to hear that. He is awesome and it makes me feel so good everytime someone tells they like Käärijä, he deserves all the fans all around the world 🥰 I'm eagerly waiting to see him live again!
Käärijä's lyrics often have a deeper meaning. The message of this song finally opened after the release of the video. Interpretations by fans like me: In their careers, Käärijä and Erika do everything to entertain and bring joy, but life still treats you unfairly. They get whipped (ruoska=whip) with disgusting hate mail from nasty, sick and jealous writers. Who don't even consider artists as real people. The outfits are also a metaphor for the thick skin they have had to grow to protect themselves from insults. In interviews, they say that they try to ignore hate messages, but it's difficult if they concern family or loved ones. Otherwise, they try to turn rude messages into a source of strength and as motivation to keep going.
Thank you for the double feature! Others have already explained about the texts and comments and the UMK act. I have to mention, this is something I read somewhere [sorry, I forgot where] (not sure if it is a fact, or somebody's speculation) that in the music video Käärijä's suit has spikes, and Erika a thick suit. Both are protection against those nasty, hurtful comments. And they look a bit like aliens because mean people don't even see them as people, but as something you can just insult. And this song was actually written a year or so ago, and they have been waiting to release it. --- OK, I gotta continue watching the Live Version part now! Thanks for this, your Reaction videos always make me happy, and I am so glad you like Käärijä!
Those outfits do make sense now! I figured it had something to do with them fighting off the hate. I'm sure many artist get this but I am glad for who they are and would not change a thing!
Slight precision: Käärijä and Erika were the interval act for this year's UMK, seeing as how Käärijä was last year's UMK winner (and Erika also participated in the past with the song "Cicciolina").
Erika got robbed in 2020! Nothing against AKsel, it was a beautiful ballad, but CIcciolina was truly EPIC> Fun Fact - while living in Italy 1987-1991 I actually met Ilona Staller - aka Cicciolina, when she was out and around the country after being elected to the Italian Parliament.
Fun fact: Käärijä’s hair colour is actually dyed. He mentioned that his natural hair colour is a sort of ash-brown,you can see it in his older MV when he was still in his yellow suit era.
Käärijä indeed decided last year not to enter Eurovision Song Contest again, and it makes sense. It would be horrendous pressure, as nothing but a win would be good enough for people. Also, it probably wouldn't really add anything to his career. He is now free to do what works for him best - and we are here for it!! You really need to see him live one day!
I think he said he will never perform in Eurovision again. It might be that not even as a non contestant. And I get it, it really left bad taste in everyones moth. Except maybe the Swedes.
@@emmily9586 He was only commenting about competing and IIRC he said that even before the finals. He decided to do this once, regardless of outcome. I'm pretty sure he would be fine to perform in non-competing act in Eurovision stage, and given how iconic Cha-Cha-Cha is now, it is likely we will see him again.
My 63-year-old mother introduced me to your channel! She doesn't understand everything you say but your positivity and joy crosses all language barriers. Love that you've been reacting to so many Finnish songs lately ❤ Greetings and good vibes from Finland!
I don't know if this has been all ready been told here, but in finnish 'ruoska' means whip. They sing about masochism. 'Kipu kiihottaa' means pain turns me on. But the song is actually about how celebrities are seen and who people write about them in social media. The text in the music video are real messages they have received, and the messages are all really derogatory. Käärijä and Erika Vikman are controverlsial persons in Finland so they got lot of shit dumb on them but they are both of them are fearsome and talented singers.
Even though many would have liked Ruoska to be the Eurovision song, it’s was just an interval act until points came to contestants. UMK doesn’t actually have Semi-finals like Eurovision has. Yle and UMK select the seven from applicants in secret and those seven then compete in the final where we vote for our representative to Eurovision.
Yeah I figured by the time I finished watching and did not see their name on the list that they were just an intermission act. Loved it all the same though.

An additional, small correction to what everyone has been telling you, sorry! The music video director picked an angle about hate comments, yes. But... The lyrics themselves talk about many different things that make Käärijä's life hard, in his usual rambling and comedic style. It doesn't actually mention hate comments, it mentions random things like how the dirt path in the forest beat up his bike, and he now has scrapes on his knees. It starts with him sitting at a gas station unable to enjoy his coffee and cinnamon bun because he's exhausted. It also mentions the great Finnish ski team doping scandal, and in the lyrics he wishes he'd be caught up doing something similar - a VERY masochistic line of thought considering the impact that scandal had. Käärijä often references cultural events in his lyrics, which make them very interesting for a foreigner to dive into - but you have to find a finn to explain many of the nuances to you, or a bloody essay to explain it all. Some of them are international though, in this song he mentions how Justin Bieber is stalked by his hit song Baby. It's meant to be a song about how life in general is hard, but still exciting. To emphasize that he uses a lot of BDSM terminology, like the whip line in the chorus or "I'm a masochist and my life is a thriller" line elsewhere. He likens his relationship to life in general to that of a submissive person in a BDSM relationship basically, with life being the sadist who turns him on.
Ok, now this clears up a lot and thanks so much for explaining all that. I did catch the Bieber reference and it makes a lot more sense. Love his writing and his lyrics (Käärijä)
The previous year's winner always performs during the next year's UMK intermission. Usually they sing another song from themselves (usually a fairly new song like Ruoska now) and then the winning song.
Thank you again, they would've easil wonwith this masterpiece, but Käärijä doesnt want to go to Eurovision anymore...I loooove this song and we are so lucky, bc 4.5. at Böle gig Erika will also be there 💚❤️
The comments were actual Finnish hate comments about how haters think Erika is the "most unerotic woman in the world" and how Käärijä is "Disgustingly chubby" and other stuff like that. And the lyrics are about stuff like how they have received so much hate that it is starting to feel like they need ski's just to get around their apartment on top of all the hate-comment "snow", and how despite giving everything to life it just keeps whipping them. But at this point they are rather just getting "turned on" by it instead of getting depressed. Like "give me more, that just shows that I have actually succeeded in something that these online anons have not".
Since you've been getting into the UMK acts, it'd be fun to see you react to some more of them. For example, Kuumaa and Benjamin's opening act this year was phenomenal! Kuumaa in general are a top notch band, and Benjamin is an incredible live performer so any reactions to their respective things would be wonderful
I am sure if this was really a part of the competition in UMK and not just a half-time show this would had won. Please react to Erika Vikman's UMK participant song called Cicciolina! It was also a crazy and party!
Ok, related to the UMK act, is it obvious which one of them is S and which one is M.. The name of the song translates to a whip, and Erika is singing how the pain is exciting. "You need punishment". Thanks for the reaction.
If want to go even deeper Erica's idol is from the 80's/early 90's artist Kikka with bunch of hits like Sukkula Venukseen, etc, many avail in youtube etc
DaneBramage ROCKS this is another version of Käärijä's Cha Cha Cha with the Finnish Symphony Orchestra from the Emma Gala 2024 , it's like the Finnish version of the American Music Awards, he won 5 trophies there. Cha Cha Cha - Käärijä feat. Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra | Emma Gaala 2024 Ruutu ruclips.net/video/l99D53M74b4/видео.html
You HAVE to react to this, too: "Pilvi Hämäläinen - Mon chéri (Live) // UMK24"!!! 😃 - Hush, hush, all you Finns, keep your mouths shut about the story of this song until after he racts to it, if he reacts to it! 😅
All those text messages / comments shown in the musical video were real hate comments both Käärijä and Erika have received on social media. As others have correctly said already, both artists have been exposed to a quite horrendous amount of these and similar comments. One layer of the song's and the music video's meaning is a response to, and dealing with, this hatred.
Yeah I bet most artists go through this. Green Day comes to mind when they left the underground scene and went mainstream. Good thing social media wasn't a thing back then but they got threats all over the place.
Great video and really happy to see love for Käärijä! The thing about both him and Erika Vikman receiving a lot of anynomous hate online is that they stick out like sore thumbs in finnish media landscape - which makes them unfortunately easy targets for online hate and harrassment. In the comments, Käärijä is often called a clown and an embarrassment, while Erika is viciously criticized for having strong agency over her sexuality, and of course, for her body. Erika is a very interesting artist in the finnish music landscape because she utilizes the image of a blond bombshell, and her look appears to be heavily inspired by a finnish singer from the 80s called Kikka (who was extremely popular), and other famously blonde feminine figures such as Pamela Andersson and perhaps even Anna Nicole Smith (this is just my personal thought). She occupies a place that is very unique in our current generation, and I feel like there isn't anyone else like her right now. This makes her an easy target. While her solo music isn't particularly for my liking, I think she's great at what she does, she's brave for doing her thing unapologetically and the finnish music landscape would be poorer without her.
Hi there and Thank you. You know, Käärijä and Erika being unique and sticking out is what draws us to them. I really do not get the hate, but people gonna hate. Regardless of their image, I'm here for it! I think they are both great at what they do and I'm in full support here.
@@DaneBramageROCKSDefinitely agreed! I'm very glad to have discovered Käärijä's music myself through last year's Eurovision, he was still flying under the radar of the general music scene in Finland until then, and he definitely deserves this spotlight!
The way things are, to be a celebrity, you have to be some kind of a masochist. Getting whipped, and the pain excites. The live version was part of the UMK sideshow. Other sideshow acts were "The banned eight UMK entry" performed by a comedian and one of the UMK announcers, Pilvi Hämäläinen ("Pilvi Hämäläinen - Mon Chéri (Live) // UMK24") and beloved Katri "The Blue and White Voice" Helena, who performed her 1979 Eurovision entry song: "Eurovision 1979 - Finland - Katri Helena - Katson sineen taivaan" and "Katri Helena - Katson sineen taivaan (Live) // UMK24".
I absolutely LOVE your reaction videos so much !! So many reactors dont actually do any reasearch into the song/artist , it is so nice to find one who does!! And i am so glad you are keeping up with Käärijä!! Kiitos!!!!! ❤️🇫🇮
Nah, he stated that he will not go through all that hassle again already before the Eurovision was even over. It is not about the result, he just apparently did feel kinda like that it is something you experience once, and that's enough.
They are talking about the public opinions about them (all the texts), and being spanked ("ruoska") and it giving pain but pleasure ("ja kipu kiihottaa"), in essential why they are giving everything of themselves for this public life that only spanks themselves but they must be enjoying it in some way. < My interpretation (It was not contestant for UMK 2024)
To put it in brief song is about failed love, pain, penalty and whipping that Mr. Kääriä deserves from Ms. Erika Vikman enjoying it obviously full time 😂
okay going to explain like 2 things! the comments in the first video were hate comments, a bunch and bunch of hate comments. 2 in the umk it was only a performance made by käärijä and eerika. it wasnt a submission for eurovision but like a freetime show if that makes sense.
There should be an English video with at least the text messages in English. It's from anonymous text messages about your appearance, very negative. Ruoska means whip, it's about comments on social media. Erika and Käärijä was only performed as quest artist's.
The song is about how when youre celebrity what ever you do people will judge and hate you for just existing. The texts were real sick hate comments to those 2 artists
Song is made to say life gives you whip to ass sometimes and not all people like you, the comments in the music video were from anonymous haters. Song was made kinda against bullying.
RUOSKAA WORDS Why do you treat my life so badly? Käärijä and Erika was just show in the UMK contest not submission to the contest. There was another performance also which was almost better than the contestants.
Miksi kohtelit kaltoin elämäni mun Why did you treat me so bad Vaikka kaikkeni annoin edessäsi sun Even though I gave you my everything Tulee ruoskaa, tulee ruoskaa ja kipu kiihottaa I'm getting whipped, I'm getting whipped but the pain turns me on
In addition to what other people have said, what I read somewhere else is that these tweets you see in the video are like legit HATE comments. Not the type that we're used to seeing in the west, but vile, toxic hate comments. Finnish is a very.. brutal, blunt and unsalted language from what I've been told.
Ethnical Finns don't have black hair naturally! Hair is typically different shades of brown, blonde, or red. Now, of course, with immigration there are black haired Finns from other ethnicities. 😊

Like "give me more, that just shows that I have actually succeeded in something that these online anons have not".
Will you next react Cha Cha Cha - Käärijä feat. Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra performance in Emma gaala?
Yeah I am saving that one. I already saw it a few times so I'll revisit it sometime down the road.
That song was in half time song.
I will do my best! I need to check out a good handful of ESC submissions but I can go back later on and check those out!
The music was created by the same team as Cha Cha Cha.
Käärijä's partner in crime producer Allu, guitarist Jukka and producer Kiro.
Awesome!
I am sure if this was really a part of the competition in UMK and not just a half-time show this would had won. Please react to Erika Vikman's UMK participant song called Cicciolina! It was also a crazy and party!
I agree, that's why it did not makes sense at first! Great song.
Ok, related to the UMK act, is it obvious which one of them is S and which one is M.. The name of the song translates to a whip, and Erika is singing how the pain is exciting. "You need punishment". Thanks for the reaction.
Oh snap!! It was fun.
They need to add English captions, they have many international fans too and the mv/song makes more sense then
True, but I found the English translation video and watched it! Great lyrics
If want to go even deeper Erica's idol is from the 80's/early 90's artist Kikka with bunch of hits like Sukkula Venukseen, etc, many avail in youtube etc
Oh nice, I'll check it out. Thank You.
Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra | Emma Gaala 2024
Ruutu ruclips.net/video/l99D53M74b4/видео.html
Yeah I saw it, I could not wait.
The song tells how artists are criticized with really ugly words on social media anonymously. The music song is made against bullying.
🔥
You HAVE to react to this, too: "Pilvi Hämäläinen - Mon chéri (Live) // UMK24"!!! 😃
- Hush, hush, all you Finns, keep your mouths shut about the story of this song until after he racts to it, if he reacts to it! 😅
Ok, I got it saved! I'll get to it as soon as I can
Tulee ruoskaa.... the whip is coming! Ruo rhymes with Duo btw
can you please react to this Cha Cha Cha - Käärijä feat. Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra | Emma Gaala 2024
OH, I saw this one already! But, I'll put in my back pocket for a rainy day.
Okii@@DaneBramageROCKS
Ruoska means whip in finnish that is why they have whip sounds and Ericka is Singing im getting whipped and the pain hurts me
All those text messages / comments shown in the musical video were real hate comments both Käärijä and Erika have received on social media.
I Love this. This about some -comments they have had and this video and song is middle finger up.
I love this also!! Especially the meaning.
Finland 👍👍
Käärijäs new song Kot kot is out now, unfortunately there is no musicvideo, but very cool teasers and short videos of it are here on yt and on spotify
I hope to see an MV soon so I may wait.
@@DaneBramageROCKS there is not going to be a music video sadly
@@jeevm491 dang it. Ok, I'll go listen
Käärijä is too sympathetic character.
Käärijä told that he will never again go to Eurovision songcontest. This act was only there when waiting voting points points.
Well it was a good intermission.
Whoa, that is wonderful information! Thank you so much.
I absolutely LOVE your reaction videos so much !! So many reactors dont actually do any reasearch into the song/artist , it is so nice to find one who does!! And i am so glad you are keeping up with Käärijä!! Kiitos!!!!! ❤️🇫🇮
Thank you so much, and yes, the Artist should get all the credit, its their work, I am just watching it!! Cheers.
This was the interval act at this year's UMK. Käärijä has stated that he will never participate in Eurovision song contest again. 😢
tbh because he realised it was all rigged
Nah, he stated that he will not go through all that hassle again already before the Eurovision was even over. It is not about the result, he just apparently did feel kinda like that it is something you experience once, and that's enough.
Yeah, (sigh)... Hopefully at least Erika will compete, again.
or haarija HAHAHAHAHA@@patrickuotinen
@@That_FortniteKid might be interesting, I have never heard him even speak a word. But he might surprise us all if he started to sing.
Was lucky to see it live in Tampere Nokia arena and it was a banger! 🤩
That's awesome
To put it in brief song is about failed love, pain, penalty and whipping that Mr. Kääriä deserves from Ms. Erika Vikman enjoying it obviously full time 😂
erika was chacha arms too
Is it on eurovision Great song
That was half time show.
yes , those are some of the actual vile texts messages they received 🙁 from anonymous cowards
It seems they were all actual messages. That is to bad but I am glad they are carrying on.
Most likely already told many times. The texts on the video were mean comments that the artists have gotten.
okay going to explain like 2 things! the comments in the first video were hate comments, a bunch and bunch of hate comments. 2 in the umk it was only a performance made by käärijä and eerika. it wasnt a submission for eurovision but like a freetime show if that makes sense.
Yup. I came to learn all that! Thanks for the info!
@@DaneBramageROCKS no problem, though i suppose you already learned this but anyways☺️
@@nikussy90 no problem at all, I appreciate everyone providing the information.
There should be an English video with at least the text messages in English. It's from anonymous text messages about your appearance, very negative. Ruoska means whip, it's about comments on social media. Erika and Käärijä was only performed as quest artist's.
Got it! Yeah that is too bad. I thought their look was fun and unique. God forbit that every artist has to look the same.
Yes there is a lyric video in English. I can't link it because links get removed.
The song is about how when youre celebrity what ever you do people will judge and hate you for just existing. The texts were real sick hate comments to those 2 artists
Yeah that is too bad people are like that but good for them for pulling through.
Song is made to say life gives you whip to ass sometimes and not all people like you, the comments in the music video were from anonymous haters. Song was made kinda against bullying.
RUOSKAA WORDS
Why do you treat my life so badly?
Even though I gave everything in front of you
There will be a whip, there will be a whip
And the pain is exciting
(wrapper)
I'm sitting in a carefree chair and I feel run down
I don't like morning coffee, I don't like buns
It's been printed again, it's going to arrive in no time
Baby hey, I'm ready, let me come
Rocky forest paths are damage bike
And my knees are scab, I've stomped to the meter
No surface scratches are an obstacle to evenings
When adversity has already carved me like a link
(And let's go to Vikman)
Why do you treat my life so badly?
Even though I gave everything in front of you
There will be a whip, there will be a whip
And the pain is exciting
Even if you give me mercy and embrace me
I wouldn't feel alive until
There will be a whip, there will be a whip
And the pain is exciting
The snow has come in so much you don't need skis
It's like Kari-Pekka these anxieties
Now the housing association has humidity measurements
When the portals of the stairwell have hemo flows
And I want to stay climbing (climbing)
I am a masochist and my life is a thriller
These challenges follow me like Baby Justin Bieber
But it's not enough for Kinder to have tasted Breezer
(But you didn't like it before)
Why do you treat my life so badly?
Even though I gave everything in front of you
There will be a whip, there will be a whip
And the pain is exciting
Even if you give me mercy and embrace me
I wouldn't feel alive until
There will be a whip, there will be a whip
And the pain is exciting
Why do you treat my life so badly?
A song about Sado-Masochism. Nice😮
This was a performance, not a submission to the contest.
Yeah I have come to learn that
Interval act only. Check Erica's 2020 runner up song Cicciolina (esc that year cancelled) and later hit with a great video Syntisten Häät.
Will do, Thank You
You need to listen Erica Vikmans Cicciolina song which was one of the contest songs in UMK 2021
So I have heard!! I'll check it out.
Käärijä and Erika was just show in the UMK contest not submission to the contest. There was another performance also which was almost better than the contestants.
Agreed
If I understood right its about haters and social media who bully etc.
Käärijä has released new song with Joost Klein!! TRAFIK! Iam waiting you for react 🥹🔥💚
There is cool MV out. 😍
It is on the way!!
@@DaneBramageROCKS CANNOT WAIT 🤩

I'm getting whipped, I'm getting whipped but the pain turns me on
Yeah I found the English translation video and watched it. Love the lyrics.
In addition to what other people have said, what I read somewhere else is that these tweets you see in the video are like legit HATE comments. Not the type that we're used to seeing in the west, but vile, toxic hate comments. Finnish is a very.. brutal, blunt and unsalted language from what I've been told.
I heard the same. I think it's true.
käsikarvat pystyyn:D
Hey sirr ..chek sweed child o mine by alip bata guitar cover..alip amazing skill..thanks sirr
I plan too! Thank you.
Käärijä sang chachacha too you have to watch it
I have seen the one with the orchestra.
@@DaneBramageROCKSbut what did you think of the orchestra version?
@@kattanakaokopnik5170 I Loved it! Hands down.
Erikseen Wikman and Kääriä's performnce was only on interval numeber.
Interval acts were better than competition songs!
Ethnical Finns don't have black hair naturally! Hair is typically different shades of brown, blonde, or red.
Now, of course, with immigration there are black haired Finns from other ethnicities. 😊
Thank you.
This was not a submission for the Eurovision. Just a half time show bro
Yup. Gathered that! A passing of the torch. Still, great song.
@@DaneBramageROCKS I agree
This song os all about haters and hate comments that they both het alot. The comments are real comments from the social media send to them.
Ruoska is whip and they sing about getting whipped (by social media comments). It’s not part of the competition, it’s just a new song performed at the UMK song contest.
In the middle part they were showing all the disgusting hate comments they both have received online
Yeah I heard about that. I guess most artists get that these days. Glad they fought back.
It was not a submission though 😊
Sadly, wish it was.
Sorry I dont like Erika imige. Danny work so much backround, he just want one female style, look Armi Aavikko,
Don't be sorry. This resonates differently between people! Cheers, thanks for commenting!
