- Parents of a new-born baby who was falsely declared dead at Pelonomi Hospital in Bloemfontein, are threatening the Free State Health Department with legal action.
The parents were only told that their child was still alive, on the third day after the death declaration, while busy with funeral preparations.
The provincial Health Department has acknowledged the mistake.
We speak to the father of the new born baby, Boitumelo Kgabale for more.

50 yrs ago I gave birth to a stillborn baby girl at Addington hospital. The hospital told my husband and my mother because she'd never breathed she would be incinerated as *Medical waste". However a month later they contacted me to ask when I would fetch my baby from the mortuary. I had a total breakdown thinking of her small body laying on the cold mortuary bed with no warmth and abandoned. 😢 My heart was broken all over again. I know now I should have sued the hospital but I was 19 and very inexperienced. I had to arrange a cremation for her and have never gotten over my severe trauma of losing my baby and them leaving her body I'm the mortuary for a month before contacting me. But they owe me big time for the PTSD that I still suffer today. 😢😢😢😢😢
You need to sue the hospital
Sue the employees directly, if they sue he hospital our Taxes are paying for those mistakes.
Someone was trying to steal that baby, something is not make sure here.
Sad as death can be, it's important to first physically identify the deceased. It's traumatic but very important to do. May you be encouraged as you go through all the trauma.
DNA test need to be done.
So sorry you had to go through this trauma. All the best to your family.
This guy is not serious, when someone is pronounced dead you need to confirm
True and there is no way a child will die and family are not called to confirm . The family wants to sue for money
Nonsense. @@tinyikontsako6387
The first thing as parents when one say ur baby is no more. Whether confused or not u ask to see ur dead baby.
You obviously don't understand the word confused
@@sithembisophewa9380 we know how hospitals operate .when child is dead parents are called .What kind of mum who does not know the baby she gave birth to .Took.her home and brought her sick
@@tinyikontsako6387 it a new born what are you talking about
What a world we.are now living in , so sad
Sue the hospital !
Horrific....very traumatizing for the family...so sorry my friend
The father should have gone to ICU to confirm .
I work in hospital and i have been admitted in icu for 3months with my twins .This father was suppose to be there with the child even in ICU .In hospital there is nothing done without the parents .When the child was rescuscitated and confirmed ....then became alive .....where was the dad?Where was the mum .....something is fishy .I got confused cause he cannot even explain himself
True something is fishy
Absent. He didnt care to investigate further to how the baby died but when they say the baby is alive he wants dna and stuff. I think he never wanted the baby🤦♀️
Emotional distress is a very serious issue and many people don't un it.
What a horrible experience 😢
The nurses are very rude .i understand y my brother did not think of going to to confirm if the baby is really no more.😢😢😢
Yes, they are very rude, all over....they do not respect families and patients😮😢
Stay strong brother, sorry I hope uMama heals from this it's not an easy journey.
Sorry for the bad experience family.Something very wrong in SA a lot of babys die after birth.Mothers carry babies full term and babies dye at birth it is not normal.
Just the headline gave me palpitations😧
Department of health 😭😭😭🚮
Which means baning bebadeclare dead kanti ba alive
Scary story in S.A
Just knew it's only government Hosp can do that
How come the parents never went to the hospital to confirm the death of their own baby 😏 it doesn't make sense
Sorry for that family the baby name is Bophelo
Scary very sad
The hosp wanted to sell the baby
They wanted to sell the baby.
Yes they wanted to sell the baby ,it happened to one of my sisters they stole the baby and tried to sell him but the buyers had enough for that time
I think these nurses get paid for babies evil world we living in
Where is the baby now home or still in hospital, imagine if the DNA comes negative what will happen to the baby. Oh Lod arise for this family!!
What a scary and traumatic story😢.
Which hospital is this
😢😢
Unfortunately this is what nursing is becoming in South Africa.
This sounds like Edenvale hospital or Thembisa hospital 🤞🤞🤞
😮did she just say Benoni hospital in Bloemfontein
Esh😢
@ANC at work.
Ijooh 😭😭💔
Bathong😢
Yoh! Nina ngingashona, the trauma!!!
Why he didn't go and confirm if the baby is dead!? That's a stupid question. Most black people dont bother. Once a person is dead, is dead! But also for a person who's in icu, it means he or she is critical ill. If i were him, I'd be glad the baby is alive, focus on the baby, make sure he is recovering and ok, and deal with this matter later! Now it seems like he is rushing to sue the department and get money while the baby is fighting for his/ her life!!!
Yah honestly that’s the first thing they could have done
How do you organise a funeral without visiting the hospital first
i feel sorry for them, when you receive a word from the hospital saying that your child/family has passed away you go there and identify, you can't just start prepare for a funeral. and please stay away from the media because you will say a lot of mistakes and backfire to you,
Yea true ...hez story has loop holes
Wow, I didn't realize most black people couldn't be bothered. Here 🇧🇼 after pronunciation there is a "viewing" in the hospital for family members, then there will be another viewing at the morgue, during the week and on collection, the morning of the burial as well.
A lack of qualified doctors and nurses, blame anc
Hey wena you mad mx
