- We got a question from a viewer about different applications of the "x-block" found in katas. If you have any questions you like answered, feel free to leave a comment or send us a message (or email: karateculture@gmail.com). We would love to clarify anything and give our perspective to the best of our abilities!
In Jion, there is a part of the kata where you step forward and bend down, x block and then step back and throw both arms out to the side. In my bunkai of Jion I have the uke throw a big hook punch, then I step up to them ducking under their punch. (bending at the knees of course not just bending my back over). I make sure to get in close to their body. I Then x block the ankle of one of their legs, whichever leg is closest. I make sure to grab the ankle and then stand up and throw my hands up in the air. I basically make their foot and head swap places. Haha. This rips their leg into the air so quickly they end up faceplanting. Hopefully you understand what I mean by this. And if you do, it would be cool to see you guys try it out.
Totally can see that, it would be like a single-leg takedown into a dump. That would be super brutal on concrete or a hard surface, we can definitely try that out. thanks!
thanks for the video! I also use x block as a chamber for my blocks and strikes, and my chamber is a strike. My outside hand punches while my other hand chambers by my ear or wherever. If I want to do a left low block , I'll chamber in a high x block super quick with my right hand (on the outside) punching high and left (inside) hand comes across the right side of my face, then execute the low block kinda slowly. For the high block with left hand, I chamber slightly lower with the x block and also punch slightly lower with super speed, then build momentum to block high, and my chambers are circular in motion for speed. Also, my punch in my x block is usually quicker and with way more energy than the block itself. It's like I'm building up for the block with the sprung tension of my body even more than how hard I block. I could be wrong, I'm learning. Again nice video!
Love your channel guys. I really appreciate all the great content; it's a fantastic aid for my Karate.
Ребята, вы молодцы! в последнее время люди мало уделяют внимания каратэ и базовой технике. А вы так или иначе заставляете интересоваться традиционными боевыми искусствами и самое главное, опять же - кихон и ката!
You guys are truly awesome. Thanks for sharing!
Awesome , Thanks. You got Rock!!!!!!!!! Keep up the heat with the Classics. Still waiting for the sidekick Video. Thanks again.
+michael mcbride Thanks! We'll see what we can show with sidekicks, any specific things in mind?
No. Just when you think sidekicks are best used, and hand tech. to go with them. Plus defense for them. Thanks. keep up the Good Work!!!!!!!!!!!!
Another variation that I learned is a double leg takedown(in pinan yondan). The lapel chokes are dope!. Thanks Alot for this insightful information 💪💪💪❤❤❤
I love your videos guys. I was doing Karate Shito Ryu for a long time. I am expecting the next one!! ;)
+Hoze OD We'll keep them coming! We owe it to viewers like you to continue to release videos and hope to change the public's perception of authentic karate. Thank you for the support!
Great vids guys. I'm a Wado Ryu practitioner and find this very informative and useful
+majin2912 thanks!
I enjoyed the video!
At 0:53 I can see a bunkai I always wanted to understand from Naihanchi Shodan.
Thank you!
+Sebastian Valle Awesome! Glad we could help!
It's x block karate is incredible I just hope I can learn this type of thing to save my life all depends on how you use it and you memorize and learn and perform at the right way you can take down any opponent and you be fast enough so I won't speed and power and agility it's not always about blocking sometimes the best defense is the perfect offense 👊🥋💪😉👍🥋👊
Informative👍
I always just thought of this one as the judo choke you show at first.
Another interesting video. Well done guys! I think you did one a while ago but i'd be interested to see the groundwork concepts within karate, because they are there, just hidden. (I.e. In kanku dai from shotokan there is a mae ukemi etc)
+James Holt Good idea, maybe we can do a "Form to function" video that's a pure compilation of kata movements found on the ground. That'll be interesting to work on, thanks!
That sounds a great idea. Merging two of my favourite things to watch. Thank you!
Love these videos. I would like to borrow from your lessons to add to lessons of my own for lower ranking students in my dojo. What do you think about that?
+John Palmer Of course, you are more than welcome to share our videos and use them however you like. Our goal is to spread knowledge freely and promote open communication among all martial artists so please we would be honored if you used our videos in your class, thank you!
I took karate but thinking back it might've been a McDojo. Also this wasn't ever explained. Very interesting.
Very nice.
+Brandon Holgersen Thank you!
do you do uchi deshi program or anything in that sort of style.
+Myles Sierevogel Unfortunately not yet, but we plan to within the next few years so we'll keep you in mind!
That great I've just turned 16 so i would not be able for another few years anyway.
thats very nice video, but i don't now how can i begin in karate what i do first?
+cartoons cartoons You've taken your first step by watching our videos! Now you have to search around your city for any available karate schools and try out a class to see if it fits who you are, good luck!
My problème is we don't have a school for karate in my city, i watch your videos to do karate....thank you.
+cartoons cartoons We admire your drive to train even if your city doesn't have any schools! I would suggest watching some videos on karate basics and practicing those for now. If you can find a like-minded friend who also wants to learn then you two can practice basics together. Again these are just the basics and I would not recommend any sparring until you have access to a dojo or supervision. Eventually, finding a school to progress quickly and correctly in karate is the best route to go. Unfortunately our channel caters to the more intermediate/advanced karate practitioners but there are many beginner videos available online and we might eventually release our own basics video as well. Good luck on your training and if you want more specific instructors feel free to email us at: karateculture@gmail.com
Thank you very much, I do the basics of karate and now i finish completly the flexibility for legs, thank you and good luck in your chanell and i want to watch your videos in every time to do karate.
