@@keylimepie3602 Most of the time as artists, we gravitate towards niche media as a source of inspiration. Another reason is our understanding of deep, complex stories and concepts because, when working on a project, we are constantly thinking about the story we are trying to portray, whether it's small or big. This constant exposure to our inner thoughts trains our brains in a way that allows us to see things differently. And although we do enjoy popular series and stuff, they typically follow a set of rules that are effective on the masses, Hōseki no Kuni taps deeply into buddhism and borrows a lot of it's visuals from art and stories from the culture and, in a lot of aspects, they are difficult to grasp and understand at first, hence the reason why is not that popular. “Did you ever expect you’d change?” I always enjoyed this quote, because although Phos wanted to change, he never wanted to change like this. To lose his arms and legs, or to lose Antarticite…
Seeing Phos go from a happy-go-lucky younger sibling type to an unfeeling, unforgiving, broken shell of what they once were was a truly refreshing experience. Their dynamic with Cinnibar is crazy.
their bodies being directly connected to their memories and personalities is also interesting. The more Phos lost of their body, the more they lost of themself, too. They were objectively good in the very beginning, slowly but surely losing that goodness over time when having body parts replaced. The legs were no big deal, the arms started a slight change, but the head is where it all started to go wrong. They literally and figuritively lost their mind.
I think the most horrifying part of the whole story is to see Phos turn into that monster who mindlessly shattered all of her former friends. In a certain way his final form is a relief from that abomination she was turned into
@@tikimilliephos never had a gender, but leaned to masculine/androgynous pronouns, phos never changed genders but honestly i think they’re more feminine in the latest chapters… but idrc I never really thought of gender as a personality trait or as something important that someone thinks about

The panel in manga where she goes "who is this cutie" when she sees her original form in vision was probably the most painful part of this manga, for many reasons at same time. Whoever is still deciding if they should give this manga a shot, the answer is 200% yes, this thing is unique to say the least.
it's on par with chapter 102 (i think?) " they wanted a piece of the original, untainted phophophyllite to still exist". i am still sobbing after reading that
I adore this work and this video made me mentally run through the entire plot of the Houseki no Kuni and experience all my emotions again. Thank you, you just made a wonderful video!
I always wanted to see an edit/animation showing phos evolution and using the OP. I always thought that it fited perfectly whit how it started and how it ended. A complete masterpece in all its apects and representations

Why are Land of the Lustrous fan animators like the most talented people on the internet lol
Because the rocks are very pretty and artists like that
I'm convinced fandoms of small Japanese media just have the best artists and stuff because there's literally no other explanation

The really tragic tale of one becoming human over time - Phos' story was one of the most moving that I read
This is so beautiful amazing work!
I love your videos!
@@nyoomerr appreciate it!
Nice work man!
The latest chapter gives hope
i didnt think the opening sequence kyoumen no nami could get any better than it was
but listening to it without the lyrics elevates it to an even higher level
Despite everything. It’s still you.
The way phos goes from cutie to PTSD to creep to psycho to monster and finally a god is crazy.

This beautiful animation inspired me to read the entirety of manga, and now it’s one of my favorite pieces of fiction of all time. Thanks a bunch :)
I want you to know i love this animation so much that I come back to it throughout the years to get my dose of nostalgia.

a scary and sad story for our curious phos💔
Every panel of this would look amazing as posters. Omg this is so beautiful ❤❤❤❤❤
