Replacing the tires with my son Landen on my daughters 2004 Toyota Camry. We are using a manual tire changer from Harbor Freight. Watch how hard it was for us to do it. All the other videos in YT shows how it was so easy. It was not easy for us. Landen was a good sport for helping Dad. Thank you son!!

When I was a young man I did this with my father using hand tools.
It was such a hard job but it taught me to respect hard work and treat others who do manual, physical labor with respect. This young man will not forget the difficulty of this job. Quality time with his father ! I still think
My dad was crazy having us do this ! 🤙🏽
Yeah, and crazy doing it for yourself, get the Tyre shop to do It, But maybe handy for son to know how to do! A pair of small G clamps can be handy to hold the bead in place.
Long after you’re gone from this world you will live in his memory forever. I know because I have the same memories of my father. ❤️
I lived the same, they are good teachings, good memories with our parents, sometimes it makes me a little nostalgic
This kids gonna have more experience than uti graduates
I graduated from uti... I didn't learn shit!
@@Roushe2011 lol pretty much every technical field is like that, you just have a license to learn.
Till you see the Uti book that’s probably his @ 20:32
Felt bad for the kid spending the whole afternoon changing one tire, wrong tool/spot… If that piece of crap works Hunter will close out soon.

So cool you and your son working together, he may never be a mechanic but what you are teaching him goes way beyond how to fix a car.
Hi angel, the trick to these is to have the part that breaks the bead on the bottom last hole from the three and make sure NOT to have the arm straight down over the tire, but you want to pull the tire further out and have the arm sit about at 45 degree angle or somewhere between 45 and 90, but definitely closer to 45, once you get a feel for what angle catches best just repeat, also always make sure to lube up the tire thoroughly going on and taking off.. You guys had the arm sitting much too upright parallel with the main shaft of the tool.
oh shit thats for sure mine bent lol fuk me
Yup
This video was cringe.. lol
Nice tip there!
That's how you do it!
And lots of lube!!!
I’ve had one of these for a very long time, they have a learning curve, watch some videos and keep trying! Trust me it’s worth it!! Never answer to a tire shop or THEIR schedule again!!!
I love mine. They need a duckhead tho.
@@totallyjonesin I plan to build one in the near future. I can do steelies all day long, but the steel bar is ROUGH on alloys.
Priceless moment, nothing is more important then spending time with your family. Hope your son hand is okay . 👍
I’m not gonna take the tire machine at my job for granted anymore lmao
I don't know if anyone else mentioned, but the trick to getting the tire back on is to make sure you keep it pushed down in the drop while prying up and over small amounts at time. If you don't have the tire in drop center, you'll be fighting yourself like you were and not have enough stretch. It's difficult to keep it in drop center yourself without the tire walking, but No-Mar and others make "extra hand" tools. I prefer the Yellow Thing.
These manual tire changes work great once you know how to use them and pay for themselves quickly. With the Yellow Thing, I only use a single tire iron like the two you had, but you need to use the other curved end to pry the tire over. There are also "duck bill" mods out there that make it even easier, but a little pricey. First time I used this, I struggled just like you until I figured out the trick was to keep tire in drop center. Now I can get a new tire on in less than 2 minutes. Hopefully these tips help you or others for next time.
By "drop center" do you mean centered on the tool, so the arm needs to be angled out towards the bead? I'm not clear on your instructions but appreciate the value of your experience and your contribution. Thanks for sharing!
The drop center of the wheel is the well or lowest part inside the wheel, near the outer edge. By making sure the opposite side of the tire bead sits down in that well, it allows the tire to be pulled out away from the rim during mounting and demounting for sufficient slack to get it over the edge.
24:03 you can see that lower well in the wheel there. It's usually never actually in the center with automotive wheels but always near the edge where the tire needs to be mounted from.
If you don't keep that opposite side in the well or "drop center", you won't have the slack needed and make it a big struggle as you attempt to stretch the tire instead.
They even have tools to clamp onto the rim to make sure the opposite bead is kept in the drop center, because that's such a key part of doing it successfully.
Your son is the man! I can't wait to teach my daughter how to work on cars. Really enjoy seeing a dad spend quality time with his father learning a skill. God bless you and the family brother.
See your son growing up !

Folks, if you buy this changer be prepared to encounter a tire so tight on the wheel that the bead breaker piece is destroyed by the leverage created by the steel pole. That happened to me today. I am lucky to have the scrap steel and welding equipment to fabricate a bead breaker that is hugely stronger than Harbor Freight’s.
When I was a teenager, I wrkd in a gas station (gas was $.29 a gal) & we changed tires EXACTLY by hand like u did! Our equipment was alot heavier too. Use lots of ruglyde.😉 Ur boy is a cute/good young man. Dad's a great teacher!! Love ur videos!
Happy Birthday TOO! 🎂
The trick with bead breaking is to move the tire further from the post, so the lever is pushing the blade of the tool angled toward the rim, not away from the rim... then it won't try to slip away from the bead.
Hi Patrick, thank you for the tip. I will definitely try that next time.
That’s exactly what I was thinking watching it. Between having the proper angle and using some soapy water I bet it would be a lot easier.
If you pull the tire out towards the end of the bar ( towards yourself) the bead breaker will be on an angle more forward rather than back towards the support post. That's why the tire didn't fit in and you had to cut the bar so it would go higher.
Don't know if that makes sense but I have the same one, once you get used to it it's pretty easy.
Really good to see kids outdoors and not laying around playing video games.
what a nice boy ..lovely to see you work together - I've got the same tire changer and after a while of understanding the tricks, i do 1 tire in about 5-8 minutes (just changing). I know all the troubles here but the main thing is, that you always have to make sure that the opposite side of the tire edge is in the notch of the rim - then you can make the change without great effort .)
He had "help" -- that what made it take so long... :)
Reminds me of the sign I saw in a repair shop many years ago:
"SHOP RATE: $60/hr -- if you help, $120/hr"
When using these little changers, soapy water is your best friend! Get lots of soapy water (heavy on the dish soap) and get it into the beads. In the hardest cases, I use some WD-40. It can make the difference in getting the tire off and on or giving up in defeat. You really can’t expect a $70.00 tool to work as well as a professional level tire changing machine.
I love the fact that your Son is included in the learning and he is very good at it too.
Well done. Thank you Angel.
Teaching the son the value of hard work lessons that last a lifetime priceless
Exactly!! thank you. 2 reasons why i made this video. to show the challenges of using a manual tire changer and lesson of hardworking with my son.
Another trick that I have learned is to get the new tire as hot/warm as possible so it is easier to mount. Don't forget to lube the wheel up with soap/grease for dis/mount!
23:07 If both red and yellow dots, the red dot has priority.
Good informative video as always!
Yes sir I leave out in the sun before hand.
and Landen ( future Master Mechanic ) begins his apprenticeship, well done guys, well done. HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANGEL
Thank you much! I just bought one this week for $59.99. I have no garage and will need to anchor to some heavy plywood. I appreciate this great video!!
The Harbor Frieght tire changer is a pain in the butt. The trick is pushing the tire down past the humps inner rim then it will give you the room to put the tire on the rim. Good job guys.
I have the same tire tool. It works really well. Some tires are very stubborn coming off the bead tho yours looks to have been the worst case scenario lol. Thanks for the great video.
may have worked better for you if you pre lubed the tire/rim with soapy water
That's a smart kid only have to show him once, good job.
Going to be a pro some day. What a good kid.
What a teacher you are for your son. Good job Dad
Great father/ son expirence. Kids need to learn how to do things like that. Great teacher!!
You have to pull the tire out a little bit away from the machine so when you push down it goes forward into the lip of the rim instead of sliding backwards off the back of the tire.
Happy Birthday, another trip around the Sun.
Man I’m telling you every time I watch it seems your children are getting older and older! They’re growing like weeds man! Your son is going to grow up and be one smart mechanic!
Thank you for this video. Now I know how to modify the unit to make it work perfectly.
Greatest quality time while demonstrating innovation, Kudos👍 Certainly entertaining 👏
just got one of these and way easy than I thought. Its all about finesse and not muscle. But a couple tire spoons and its a breeze after you get through the learning curve.
Your kids are sweet and spending quality time with you son is something he will remember as he grows up to become a man. Thank you for sharing this video
hi Koala, yes, That is why i did this video. Spending time with my kids. Also to get him off the video games. Hey is a great kid and didn't make a fuss. thank you for watching. God Bless
I got the same tire machine and it works great right out of the box, I mounted 2-205/60/16 tires , it took 15 min each. I think its your lack of experience not the tools falt. Im 69 with a bad back and bad knees.
Great video like others have said you want the rim all the way out to the stop if the your is still difficult like this try rotating it to a different spot and work your way around had to do this with 10 ply truck tires but it gets the job done also they sell what's called a duck bill kit for those online that make mounting and dismounting much easier but overall great job and effort
There's a whole lot more happening here, besides just changing tyres, great job gentlemen.
I have and used this changer for 40 years + . Mostly motorcycle tires but car and small truck tires too. Wish I could be there to show you technics and short cuts.
Just type them out and help them & the thousands of other people who look at your comment in the next 100 years. lol.
Great tool to have in case of emergency you need to repair Or replace Tire. Your son will never forget spending time with dad.
Brings me back to 1977 when my father taught me how to my first drum brake job.....good times.
Thanks to you my car passed the smog check thanks a lot for your videos bro they6very helpful 👍👍👍😊
To break the bead, u have to hammer it in. I had the same issue and finally figured it out
Your son is very helpful 👍 The tire needs to be wet down for the bead to release.
I am happy to see this father and son.
Great idea with the wooden block to break the bead. It was slipping off just like this on mine. I've nearly given up but will try this.
Best Dad Ever
Props to a dad teaching his son!. With that said, these little machines are unbeatable for the money. The thing is they require figuring out the technique. Watch some vids on it. There are tons that explain mods and technique. It does get easier!
The boy is helping dad but the girl is chilling around. What a great boy 👦.
LOL
Ganyan ang tamang bonding ng Tatay at anak... Learning from doing.. keep it up. God bless you...
yes Regis!! you only know if you only TRY!! Salamat God Bless
So cool, spending time with your son. Best time together.
priceless!! thanks for watching
Great Father/son time! 👍
It's very important to use wheel chocks and jack stands especially with the inclined driveway. I had a neighbor that lost his son because the car fell off of the jack.
yes, always important to use the wheel chocks. that's sad your neighbor lost his son.
I have used my Harbor Frieght tire changer and have fallen in love with it, I am in the process of upgrading it, I will have possibly $150.00 in parts. Please check the other RUclips's to see the upgrades but if you can weld than you will have no trouble in building it.
There's kits out there where they want $700.00 for it where the parts are only like I said about $1500.00.
By the way, I married a Filipino in 1972 while in between DaNang Vietnam, Ubon Thailand and Cubi Point Philippines. We were married for 26 years and have 3 sons and 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
You take care and use more Soap and the tires will come off and go back on easier.
To anybody watching this video I want to say. I am a 32 year old ox 🐂 220 pounds and definitely work out regularly. I brought this machine for $70 mounted it to the wood floor in my garage and almost pulled the floor beams up all the way out of the floor and ripped through the studs trying to turn the bar around the tire with this thing took me and somebody else to try to change sports tire on an Audi I immediately wanted to return this to the store. Do not let the videos fool you manual tire machine is not for the heart and not at one job especially not with rims you care about
Todos tus vídeos son excelentes. Siempre aprendo algo nuevo. Muchas gracias por compartir tus conocimientos. Mil bendiciones !!
This is awesome. He's a natural.
Hey bud , been looking at buying one of those changers and been watching a few videos. What I've observed that no one has really mentioned is rather then push the tire towards the center , pull it away. Several folks have noted the leverage part hitting the center post. I think it's intentional to avoid the foot from positioning too close resulting in slipping away from the rim. If the set up is pulled away from the post , the pivot point can only push down towards the rim. I'm guessing that's the purpose of the catch on the foot plate is to limit distance and bind, forcing the pressure in to the bead. Overall great video. Have kids of my own and experiences like these are what it's all about. Looking forward to trying out myself. All info is appreciated thanks for sharing your experience.
Hi Aaron, thank you for watching. Yes I think you are right. I will try that next time. It was our first time to use that tire changer so I knew it wasn’t going to be easy but my son and I got it done.
I think if I do a couple sets of tires I would get better on it.
Yes, that’s the whole point on the video. Spending time with my son and experience working on a car.
Have fun on replacing your tires. Stay safe and stay well.
@Aaron Lawrence You're right. It's all about the leverage.
The way he had it set up, the tire was too close to the center post and the bead breaker was forced straight down onto the sidewall.
The tire needs be away from that center post, up against the metal triangle wheel chock.
In that position, the bead breaker is at an angle and is forced between the rim & the bead and won't slip down onto the sidewall.
This would've saved him a lot of effort and he wouldn't be advising against buying this manual wheel changer.
On the plus side, he had quite an adventure with his son.
Can't argue with that.
This kids tire change victory was more rewarding than those Fortnite victories.
Epic when you have father and son tandem.
I own one of those tire changers . The more you use it the easier it gets .
Grate Job, hard Work! Greets from Germany!
IT'S A GOOD THING IT'S A P O S RIM , YOU NEED TO WATCH HOW THEY DO IT IN THE PHILIPPINES. LOL LOVE THAT PH US FLAGS. YOU'RE A GOOD DAD BRO. LOVE THE TEAM WORK
Happy birthday Angel, looks like you have a great team working with you 🎂
that manual tire remover....its a staple tool here on the sideroad vulcanizing shops here in the philippines
Gotta love the $50 tire changer and the many thousand dollar balance machine
Young man was working hard. Awesome
Thank you for watching
Simple physics doesnt seem to compute with this dad. Lol
Lubrication is the key to life lol
That why i don't try to mess with something to make it works... if dosen't work for me ... i take it back right the way ... 👍👍👍

Nice job! :) Keep safe, be dirty watch out for each other.
Very good! Well done both!
thank you
Best moments for your kids ! Salamat.
kudos to the close up video work
Great job dad 👏
Even with a compressed tire machine toyota steel wheels r always hard to pop the bead
yes!!
It is not for everyone I have used it many times and have always worked for me
Happy birthday to you Angel 🎉🎉 Keep healthy...
Hey Angel, I think you need the tyre further away from the centre post. The triangle at the foot should rest inside the rim, then the bead breaker will be pushing outwards and will keep itself in the bead properly without needing the piece of wood...No need to cut the pivot tube this way either🤣👍🇦🇺
Hi Simon, thank you for the tip. I appreciate it. Going to try that next time. My daughter is in Australia!! She is in the Army National Guard for training. But you guys are in lockdown. So they just stay in the room. Thank you sor watching. Stay safe and stay well.
@@FixItAngel Hi Angel, love your videos mate, hopefully my tip helps. I haven't used one of those but that's how it looks like it should work best. Also it should give better mechanical advantage with the bead breaker out further from the post. Nice to hear your daughter is over hear doing important training for her country and a great career. I'm in Perth W.Aus, we've just had a brief 4 days of lockdown, so hopefully will be back to full freedom within the next 8-9 days. It's a bit more intense with lockdowns over on the east coast right now. Not much fun for you daughter if she's in Sydney, but she should be fine if she's staying in her room. Stay safe and strong brother 🤘👍🇦🇺
even tho the bead popper was a fail im sure this was something you and your son will share and enjoy forever QUALITY time with family i love it❤ i hope my boys wanna help me when they get bigger! 😅
Nice to teach your son how to do it right
Good job it's nice to see father and son spending the day together and dad teaching the son. Your son did good job enjoy watching your videos god bless 🙏
I got a homemade one my dad made in the early 80s I learned how to use it as a kid. I got real good at it . I am 48 now I change all my own tires. Mine is built way better then the ones you buy.
wow that's great!! i bet you can do it with your eyes closed. lol
Lol idk bout that but I do a pretty good job, Done all my own since I was young.
Nice Camry model. Well worth taking care of
I would return that in a heart beat
No need to return, sometimes the "chinesium" tools need a bit of modifying to work properly.
The key is LEVERAGE-ANGLE & LUBRICANT, no different than a woman's needs!
Get it right & everyone is HAPPY!
Definitely, far better to spend a hundred bucks and let someone else mount and BALANCE too! Especially if that thing is bolted to his driveway, will be in the way 95% of the time.
@@megaman4201presumably he used threaded inserts for mounting it in the driveway, so it's just four bolts to take out for removal.
I got my first mechanic job in the mid-1980's and have changed hundreds of tires over the decades, incl the big trucks. none are "easy", even with modern machines there can be issues with todays fancy wheels. but I did buy one of these ($60 clearance) because shops want $50 ea tire to mount & balance -if I don't buy the tires from them. Walmart online has the best prices on tires, and selection..this is not about the money it's about taking power back into your own hands, and maybe being able to swap a tire in a blackout. 😉 the $200 I saved bought a new battery 🏁🏁🏁
When my son was same age as yours , I exposed him to all kind of auto repair and engine build , he didn't have patience or much interest . Fast forward to 18 years old bought his first car now he is trying to catch up all the prior tutorial I've showed him . He still lacks patience and weak on troubleshooting . Start them young but only if interested .
That garage canopy is so slick.
Awesome team!
You can use soapy water 😊
Awesome video Great work !
You are risking your son's safety Bro!
Bro, Thank you for your concern. But I lived through the 80's as a kid. So I know what's risky. I know my kid. I take care of my kid and raise my kid to take on challenges. Of course i'm watching what he is doing. SMH
The future fix it angel😇👍👍👍
you are a Great Dad! :)
wish u had instructions with the tire changer dude, just back the tire further from the base, thats all u needed to do to avoid all that struggle. it will line the arm up right, just watch your own video, you will say Oh Yeah! Duh lol. enjoyed the video. good luck!
Happy Birthday Angel. Good Job Landen
Nice work with your son Angel.you re at least a hero changing manually a tire with this heat😬😬.A small comment though…the new tyres are for mud and snow.they are never going to work in those climate circumstances.just be safe and keep up the good work.
Who happy birthday and many more
Compliment you on working with your son. Just a small suggestion, when removing the tire from rim try spraying with soup and water as a lubricant. Should come of easier. Just saying.
Fun project with the kiddo! Good Job!
really good friends I love that!!!!!
I have a tool exactly like that and it works 100% for me. It is a very good tool, you just have to know how to use it.
