I’m glad you found your own way, Dixie, and escaped the terrible job and boss. You have done soooo much and helped and entertained so may people with your videos since then. You and your channel here are a bright spot in the world.
Dixie I just want to say, I'm a woman who got diagnosed with fibromyalgia in my mid twenties a couple of years ago. It's a horrible disease that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. My existence is one of constant pain--sometimes greater or lesser, but still constant. I grew up backpacking, whitewater rafting, freehand bouldering and many other types of outdoor adventuring, and when I got the diagnosis, I cried for weeks because I thought I could never get into nature again. I thought I was destined to be homebound and glued to my bed. For someone who had come to love hiking and traveling all over the world, it devastated me, and I was suicidal for a few years. I didn't think I could ever have a "normal" life again. Now a couple of years later, I've learned so much more about how to treat or at least manage symptoms (a lot of it is rooted in diet and exercise, as you've mentioned with your autoimmune issues.) While I still have flare ups and my body is never NOT in pain at some level, I am no longer suicidal and there is a new spring to my step. I am actually going to be camping (and hiking!) in Colorado in a few weeks. Your channel-- and really, your insights on confronting the intrinsic suffering of life-- is truly a huge inspiration to me. I can confidently say I wouldn't be going back out there if it wasn't for you. Thank you girl, may God bless you richly. You've certainly blessed me xoxo
Thanks for your hope also! I have some joint damage that I need to see the Dr. For...hinders my walking... climbing...and like you spent many years in Africa...and have always been very active....so thanks for your encouraging words also....
Yes hear you! Just keep active is the best way to conquer and continue to thrive. I was told l would need muscle relaxers, pain meds, antidepressants, and sleeping pills!! I find my peace and happiness despite the pain, hiking and kayak camping river systems. Don't be daunted by what you can't do, but plug forward in all you can do!! Don't allow not bring able to accomplish the miles or heights someone else is able to accomplish keep you from accomplishing the ones you can accomplish!!!🤗
Jessica, you have become my favorite hiker-RUclipsr since I started following you 1/2 way to Maine. You are such an imaginative story-teller and you've become a wonderful outdoor photographer. Thank you so much. Most of my hikes these days are returns to places in the Cloud Peak Wilderness that mean something to me. Your reflections on your return to this area make this video really special for me.
Glad you made that choice! I will say you have continually raised the quality of your videos and you are decisively (to me) one of the best nature trail explorers on RUclips. Not just because of what your skill set has become but because you have managed to do a lot of highlights for people who can't get out anymore.
That hit a note for me. I recently revisited an area where I'd lived with my wife and children for 15 years. The children have now grown and I lost my wife to cancer a few years ago and hadn't been back since. It was hard walking through the nearby woods again with so many memories flooding back and there were a few tears, but afterwards it felt like a weight had been lifted and I only felt happiness for the good times we'd had, rather than sadness for what's no longer. A tough day, but worth it.
You've grown into a highly skilled videographer. Few others on You Tube can match your composition, editing, and the ability to tell a story with images. Thank you.
I’ve been watching your channel since 2015. I don’t recall ever commenting though I’ve sent you many thumbs ups. I want to say it has been a pleasure watching your vlogging skills grow. I clicked on this today not knowing what to expect. I had to say goodbye to my dog-son, Rudy (aka Rootball) this morning. He and Hank bore a strong resemblance. This was a beautiful video. Thank you for doing what you do. You are an inspiration, and your work moves people more than you probably know.
LOVE the drone footage, especially the shot parallel to you, with those awesome panoramic views in the distance. And, oh yeah - the butterfly slo-mo was dope, too. Nice job.
This one hit home. With my daughter beginning her Senior year of high school, the worries of which college to attend, what major to choose, which would provide a means of making a living, etc., etc., it really all boils down to one thing. I want her to be happy. Whatever that means to her...just happy. Thanks for that reminder.
It is so surreal to see you walking on a trail that this ol' kid from Opelika had just walked on earlier in the summer and had just hiked nearby the Friday before you were there. Grand Mesa is one of my favorite areas to hike on. :) I'm 51 years old now and living in GJ. Happy to see you doing so well.
Dixie, I just turned 58. We almost invariably need to revisit places because of how we are led by life. I find as I go back now it seems to get easier everytime. We can make mistakes and regrets. But we learn how to have victories in all events no matter the outcome. when that happens it seems to eliminate a lot of fear whether we look forward or back. I pray this will hold true for you. Although I will have a hard time getting over it when those yellow runners finally wear out!
Dern-it, Dixie, you had me sobbing in the first 30 seconds 😭😭😭 He's not so patiently waiting for you beyond the rainbow bridge (if you believe in that sort of thing). Sorry, buddy, you're gonna have to wait a while- momma's got a whole lot more miles to hike until that mummy catches up with her. You're an inspiration, Dixie. Thank you for being you 💕
Another beautiful part of this world with that oh so familiar beautiful smile. I have been watching your videos for a long time now, and you have hiked through many of the places my heart has always wanted to go. I may never get to go to those places for personal reasons as I have gotten older, but I feel I have seen alot of what I wanted to see through your eyes. Thank you, Dixie, for always taking us with you, and thank Arron for his masterful skills.
You have no idea of the positive impact you have on people. Such inspiration. I can no longer make these hikes I used to make and I thank you for bringing us on your incredible journey of your life. Bless you.
I’m proud of you Dixie! Proud that you have been so true to who you are, not letting the world have a say. Thanks for bringing us along all these years, I’ll always be in your corner.
Dixie I've watched you for a while now and didn't know you had lived here. I live in Grand Junction and your content has since been such a source of inspiration for me. Your videos have brought out so many emotions in me, to the point of tears even. You've motivated me to hike more even if I have to go alone or in less than perfect conditions, to follow my heart and not just paycheck, and to create my idea or art and content even if it's just for my enjoyment. I even think about and use bug spray a bit differently now. 😉 I'm sorry the job/area wasn't great to you when you lived here. Please come back and visit us again anytime. Sincere thanks for the awesome content and inspiration over the years.
These Colorado videos have come at a time in my life that I can really relate to your thoughts and wisdom about life. I am grateful and certain it is no accident. Thank you for who you are and your willingness to share yourself with all of us.❤️
I remember when Hank was out there on the trail! And some of your videos from home! What a great boy! Thank you so much for that beautiful trail! Your footage is incredible! And that big buck was so beautiful! Again thank you very much!
So beautiful, Dixie. 👍. Yes, it is interesting to revisit the past once in awhile and appreciate how far we have come. Wonderful to see Hank again. 💗. I can’t believe I lived in that area for twenty years but never made it to hike on the Grand Mesa. We need more than one lifetime to be able to do all the glorious things there are to do. 🌎
You’re such a awesome person Dixie!!! I wish I had more time to hike!! My career of industrial maintenance engineering don’t leave me much time! But throughout the day I listen to you videos and thru-hikes and it helps! Thanks for dragging us along with ya!!
Chapters in life close and open over and over while we are here. Some of them we would not like to repeat but those chapters make us who we are. Cherish the lessons and motivations from them all.
Anything about a dog is dang near killing me right now…so of course this made me cry. Our 13 year old blue heeler, Blue is living on borrowed time according to our vet. He’s an old man in diapers at this point but he’s not in any pain…so we’re just loving the heck out of him every minute of every day. It’s unfair that so many animals live to be so old, but dogs…man’s best friend…not so much.
Wow! I really enjoy your videos. The scenery, the use of drones, the music… The words… I get emotional. I’ve been backpacking with my dog for the last seven years. I don’t know how many more trips she and I will go on, but I’m enjoying every weekend I can get out with her.
I'm so sorry Hank is not physically with you anymore. My pup went on her way as well and my hope for both of us and everyone else is that when it's our turn to leave the body, we reunite with all we love and care about. What an amazing video, like heaven on Earth!!
Colorado is magical, for sure. I don't know if I've ever felt more at home in a far away place as when I was there- it really caught me by surprise. And I see the 'shroom macro again..... Papa, Mama, and baby mushroom, all together and posed. That was REALLY good! And I bet way back when, you never dreamed you'd be back hiking those hills in mustard yellow shoes.... :o) Walk on, sister! You're an inspiration.
Oh, wow, I didn’t know you once lived in Grand Junction! I’ve lived here nearly 40 years, I wonder if we ever unknowingly ran across each other during your time here! Glad you got to return under better circumstances. Crag Crest is a beautiful trail. (I hiked it last with my dog/son Riley who has been gone many years now, too. He was the best. ❤️)
Very touching video. I had a bad boss years ago that forced to me to rethink my career path as well and ended up in a much better place in my life, like you have. Congratulations. You've come a long way.
I can't say how much I loved that you used the same music from the movie "somewhere in time" while you were taking a memory hike. Such a good old movie!
I am 64 and I have many ... "time markers" (love that label) including meeting Sunny at Flagg Mr this past January thanks to you Dixie. Keep hiking and keep ... reaching for the stars. You inspire SO many others to do the same including me.
You are so lovely Dixie. It's good you've found your own way, and what a way too ! I can't think of anything better that what you settled to do. Not everyone has that chance, or courage. I love to follow your journey. That's from and oldtimer Englishman whose hiking days are almost over .
I live and hike in Costa Rica. It's very beautiful. But I lived in Colorado for 18 years and watching this video made me homesick for the mountains and the beautiful hiking trails. Thanks for the video and congratulations on making the life you want!
Thank you for another wonderful video. At the risk of being overly philosophical, we hike because it grounds us and cleanses our souls. Your videos truly capture all of that. Of all the videos I have watched, this is the first that shows a pika. An impressive species that epitomizes our alpine wilderness. What a bonus. Thanks again.
This was a really great video, with a really great message. I love the idea of seeing the ghost of your previous self on the trail. You have definitely been an inspiration to so many people and you have so much courage to step out and live your life by your choice. Thank you for all you do.
... Logo on the intro was pretty cool ... Fished a few lakes on the Mesa but never hiked any of the trail systems ,, maybe have to get back out and start walkin' ... ... Hiking on the wings of an Eagle ... Beautiful scenery out from that knife edge ... ... I imagine all the wildlife on the mountain knows when Dixie's coming .... Those shoes are crazy "loud" .... lighting up the trail .... lol .. ...
Absolutely gorgeous takes me back young lady it takes me back. Thanks for taking me along. I think I might stop watching these I get so sad that I can't do it anymore
Yes, Dixie you have come a long ways from that time you did this hike and while is bittersweet that Hank is no longer with you, look at the amazing tasks you have accomplished. Making a career change was the best thing for you and we are enjoying your hikes through your videos and amazing photography. Thank you and here is to many more trails to be blazed🥰
Thanks for making! Your honesty is uplifting. I'll be sort-of following in your footsteps in Spain in a few weeks, hoping for some heart-mending in the mountains.
This mountain is my favorite place on earth. I hope to have my remains spread there. Thank you for posting, it's been a while since I've seen the Mesa.
I have watched all of your videos, and your Triple Crown Through Hikes several times, and it is so awesome to see how much you have grown in every way since your AT hike going forward. Looking forward to what comes next for you and wishing you all the best.
Nothing sucks worse than a job you don’t like and a boss you can’t stand , I been in that position and know the feeling. Love the videos……keep on rolling……
Have really enjoyed this video from Colorado.. It's really beautiful country and your photography is outstanding. Felt like I was there with you. Thanks for sharing Dixie. Stay safe.
Dixie, thanks for the poignant introspection and, of course, your usual stunning video. @6:07, who/what are you apologising to? Frisky squirrels?... Both us and RUclips (especially RUclips) are very lucky to have a nature documentarist of your skill and eye for beauty creating on this medium. Aaron, awesome job, best logo placement yet 👏(you forgot about the _moving_ river in the background though😉) (J, are you a stealthy ninja hiker or does all that wildlife know that Dixie is around and compete to put on a show for you? 😳)
spent several complete summers on grand mesa back in the seventies. my dad had a place there on ten acres. my grand parents lived in delta. thanks for bring back memories.
We're all time travelers, just forward only at speed 1x. In spite of all the difficulties, that may be for the best. It is nice that you were (are) able to traverse a path now that gives you satisfaction. Having said that, it is nice to go back to a positive experience, and enjoy at least a variation of it again.
A nice video of a great hike in my backyard. GJ is central to some awesome hikes, alpine and desert. You should be proud of your media accomplishments. Your photography and videography are superb. You set a high bar for me and others. Thanks for sharing! 🙏😀
@@2ndborn186 One always makes decisions with unknown data and where you are emotionally and what you need at the time. Now you can let go of any regret because those decisions are in the past....all we truly have is NOW.
I am so proud for how far you have taken us - living life on your terms and taking us places that we dream of going, and are inspired to actually make those dreams a reality. Thank you for the courage to follow in your footsteps.
Wow, this video was memory lane for me, as well! I hiked that amazing trail 15 years ago with my husband while we were still dating and with his aunt and uncle who live in western CO. My life changed a great deal after that trip. I can say that Craig Crest is a marker in my life, too.
Dixie, that was awesome - beautiful scenery narrated by your beautiful prose. Just lovely and you made excellent points about how life changes and the things we grow through. Have a great new week!
Lovely! When I spent time at Colorado National Monument we flew over Grand Mesa in the tiniest plane I have ever been in. I’ll have to add this hike to my list when I get back that way.
Beautiful video. It almost feels like I am watching the old Sunday evening "Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color" that I remember from the 1950's and '60s.
all the beauty of Colorado. as I have said before I really enjoy watching your channel ever since I came across it back in 2017 .you are a true inspiration. keep on rocking the trail. looking forward to seeing your next adventures
I like Grand Mesa but as I’m sure you know better than I, certain times of the year the mosquitos are horrible (300 lakes). You can sit in your tightly zipped up tent (single wall) at night a watch all the proboscis poke through the tent looking for a free meal and you’re on the menu. Every bit as bad as Louisiana.
I’m glad you found your own way, Dixie, and escaped the terrible job and boss. You have done soooo much and helped and entertained so may people with your videos since then. You and your channel here are a bright spot in the world.
By being authentic and true to yourself you have given other people permission to do the same in ways you couldn’t even imagine, Dixie.

Really enjoyed your "Life" talk Dixie and as always, beautiful video!
These Colorado videos have come at a time in my life that I can really relate to your thoughts and wisdom about life. I am grateful and certain it is no accident. Thank you for who you are and your willingness to share yourself with all of us.❤️

Tears in my eyes for you. We all mis Hank. But you know that he is still walking with and keeping an eye out for you. TAKE CARE ! !
Anything about a dog is dang near killing me right now…so of course this made me cry. Our 13 year old blue heeler, Blue is living on borrowed time according to our vet. Beautiful video. Your skills have really come along way since the AT days. Always look forward to the next one.
Thanks for bringing all of us along for so many years. You’ll never know how many lives you have improved just by being you.
Brought a tear to my eye. So proud of you!!!
Very touching video. I had a bad boss years ago that forced to me to rethink my career path as well and ended up in a much better place in my life, like you have. Congratulations. You've come a long way.
I love solo hiking myself, because it gives you those moments of thought and reflectivity.
Thanks for sharing your heart and connection to this trail. Yes, amazing things you have done!
How wonderful to see Grand Mesa. My wife grew up with that mountain as the view from her backyard. It's a beautiful place.
You are so lovely Dixie. It's good you've found your own way, and what a way too ! I can't think of anything better that what you settled to do. Not everyone has that chance, or courage. I love to follow your journey. That's from and oldtimer Englishman whose hiking days are almost over .
You should be very proud of all that you have accomplished! Your many devoted followers are so glad you chose the path you did!
Good thoughts, well said. Thank you!
I live and hike in Costa Rica. It's very beautiful. But I lived in Colorado for 18 years and watching this video made me homesick for the mountains and the beautiful hiking trails. Thanks for the video and congratulations on making the life you want!
This was liter and figuratively beautiful in so many ways. Not the least of which was seeing Hank again. Thanks you!
For a flat top mountain it had a lot more topography than I expected. Another great video. You are an artiste.
You're looking way better in terms of puffiness, I hope your hikes are way more comfortable than they have been!
You are among the best film makers on RUclips. keep it up.
This was a really great video, with a really great message. I love the idea of seeing the ghost of your previous self on the trail. You have definitely been an inspiration to so many people and you have so much courage to step out and live your life by your choice. Thank you for all you do.
Colorado is awesome with all the varied geography and animals...always good to reflect in nature

You are such a talented videographer and your appreciation of nature and of all creatures big and small really shines! Thank you! 😊

Making a career change was the best thing for you and we are enjoying your hikes through your videos and amazing photography. Thank you and here is to many more trails to be blazed🥰
Thanks for the memories, I will be moving back to the Grand Valley in another month and will probably hike the Crag Crest Trail later this year.
Thanks for making! Your honesty is uplifting. I'll be sort-of following in your footsteps in Spain in a few weeks, hoping for some heart-mending in the mountains.
You are a cut above. Love it when you philosophize as you walk. A supercut would be fun.
What a beautiful place and to listen to the music from, "Somewhere In Time" makes me want to cry with you. I'm sure Hank is with you in spirit! ❤
I appreciate your hiking videos. They are always so artistic! Like you put a lot of thought into them, which I think others don’t. Thank you Dixie!
This mountain is my favorite place on earth. I hope to have my remains spread there. Thank you for posting, it's been a while since I've seen the Mesa.
Really loving the new cinematic style of your videos. I'm sure it's a lot more work, but it's really paying off. Keep it up.
I have watched all of your videos, and your Triple Crown Through Hikes several times, and it is so awesome to see how much you have grown in every way since your AT hike going forward. Looking forward to what comes next for you and wishing you all the best.
I LOVE this dreamy music. The epic classical has its place, the dreamy electronic really suits!
This is awesome! I was just in this area of Colorado working on birds and loved every inch of this landscape.
Nothing sucks worse than a job you don’t like and a boss you can’t stand , I been in that position and know the feeling.
Love the videos……keep on rolling……
Absolutely beautiful area, great video! Thanks for taking me along!
Aaron, awesome job, best logo placement yet 👏(you forgot about the _moving_ river in the background though😉)
(J, are you a stealthy ninja hiker or does all that wildlife know that Dixie is around and compete to put on a show for you? 😳)
The mountain flowers are so beautiful!!
spent several complete summers on grand mesa back in the seventies. my dad had a place there on ten acres. my grand parents lived in delta. thanks for bring back memories.
Your videos are always so beautiful. I'm so glad you are in a happy place in your life, you help enrich the lives of so many of us. Thank you.
Living with no regrets is really living. Good for you! Happy Trails! 🌄🌈🏕
That would be nice. Not sure it is possible.
@@2ndborn186 One always makes decisions with unknown data and where you are emotionally and what you need at the time. Now you can let go of any regret because those decisions are in the past....all we truly have is NOW.
Thanks for your message there at the end. So true and so inspiring. Love your videos!!
As always, you're such an inspiration, Dixie. Thank you for sharing your journeys with us, from those on trail to those in life.
Another amazing video. Thank you Dixie. Your words are powerful.
I am so proud for how far you have taken us - living life on your terms and taking us places that we dream of going, and are inspired to actually make those dreams a reality. Thank you for the courage to follow in your footsteps.
Congrats on figuring out what too many don’t! Great video as always.
Wow, this video was memory lane for me, as well! I hiked that amazing trail 15 years ago with my husband while we were still dating and with his aunt and uncle who live in western CO. My life changed a great deal after that trip. I can say that Craig Crest is a marker in my life, too.
This video deserves a million views
Well done! Your photography/videography continues to improve and excel! Thank you for sharing part of your journey with us.
Another great video. Hank, Colorado, and those shoes!😎 Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for the memories. I hiked that trail a few years ago.
You have a ton of great videos Dixie, this is one of them.
Dixie, that was awesome - beautiful scenery narrated by your beautiful prose. Just lovely and you made excellent points about how life changes and the things we grow through. Have a great new week!
Thank you for another beautiful and personal day.
Another lovely video, Dixie! We are all so blessed to have these bits of beauty, nature, and philosophy to make our days richer. ❤️
Nice one Daisy! Really enjoyed your journey and thoughts about reflecting on life choices.
Thanks, Lenny!
I loved watching that show on Sunday nights with my family back in those great and simple times.
@@beckyumphrey2626 me too. It seems like only yesterday . . . . well 60 years yesterday.
What a great tribute to you and Hank!
all the beauty of Colorado. as I have said before I really enjoy watching your channel ever since I came across it back in 2017 .you are a true inspiration. keep on rocking the trail. looking forward to seeing your next adventures
Beautiful video Dixie! Thank you!!!!
Love the Rachmaninov Piano Concerto. Played it last season with Lima, Ohio Symphony.
