You and about 3000 others 😅. In all seriousness, it was intended to be a casual vid to discuss my use of modules for people who have been following along with my Digitakt sample-based stuff, cause I incorporate a lot of it there. Had a few folks reach out to discuss some of the modules further so it seemed to be effective!
@@mrfister1899 I’ve got a few modular jams here and there from when I was first putting things together if you feel inclined to look back & hear some stuff (there’s a modular playlist)! I also unfortunately discovered shortly after assembling this skiff that the +12v power has a malfunction, so I’ve got to send it in for a repair :/
@@SlowHaste no problem! be sure to check the module height vs your case before buying lol circuit board sticks out perpendicular to faceplate...... :P same goes for Disting mk4.. cheers!
Been thinking of doing exactly this myself! Building a small but focussed modular setup for sampling sound design only! Beads and morphagene are high on my list, maybe I'll get round to doing it at some point! Great video as usual my friend, always enjoy them, take good care 🙏
Thanks bud!! Another you should absolutely check out is Arbhar by Instruo. That was high up on my list but was very hard to get when it first came out, although I think it’s a bit more widely available now.
I really am enjoying the smaller packaged modular rigs that I bought recently like ALM Busy Circuits Super Coupe that has awesome sampler and clock generator and ultra portable. Made some killer beats quickly since I already had worked on modular synths and can sample my larger modular system quickly and easily with Squid Salmple without carry tons of gear. That with an OP-1 and Bluebox mixer/recorder has my travel modular needs easily met.
I'd love to see you do a joint video podcast with Mylar Melodies as you look like his long lost brother of modular synthesis and both of you are quite knowledgeable.
I’m on the fence about buying a Morphagene. I like how well it does freeform sound mangling, but I worry that I might have a hard time with the workflow or getting musical results that are non-ambient. Have you used it as a looper?
I’ve kinda used it as a looper, like in this tune: ruclips.net/video/cgmPmJCtrq8/видео.html. The workflow is a lot easier once you memories a few button combinations, and the manual lays it out really nicely.
@@SlowHaste it is a tricky devil to learn and use but fun looper mangle module. For a regular sampler, I like ALM Squid Salmple that is easy to use and more straight forward type sampler with loop and edit functions like you find on Elektron gear.
I have somehow ended up, for the third time, with 21u & 84hp, and it’s depressing. I started with a plan and got lost along the way…for the third time in 10 years. Sigh. I’m trying to use your video as motivation to downsize.
It’s mostly about form factor and configurability. You can essentially make a DAW in modular format, but the benefit is being able to customize your setup to a T, and (IMO) having it in hardware form. There are a lot of specialized tools that can do some very unique things that would be near impossible to replicate workflow-wise in a DAW, too!
@@SlowHaste I have a very small 44hp case and it was recommend to me to be the best use of 4hp. 100 page + manual😎a real chameleon. Loopop did a great review.
Totally know what you mean. I feel like they’re super flexible & a great value, in a way they’ve made modular a lot more approachable for folks who otherwise nat not have gotten into it (perhaps me included, along with Make Noise)
@@SlowHaste I suppose it's like anything in fields like this, things get popular because they're good. Like I say, I really like MI stuff. I'm just conscious that I want to avoid sounding like everyone else. That's not a insult to you, by the way. I really like the way they sound, but a lot of racks have that MI sound, which I would personally like to avoid.
So I literally just watched someone put modules on a rack?

I always find these modular videos to be a bit narcissistic and pretentious. I was hoping for an educational video about modular synthesizers.
Best tip for sliding nuts I've ever seen was from lightbath. He uses a little pen magnet to move them underneath modules as needed.
Yeah that seems a bit more classy than my method hahah, I’ll have to pick one up!
Holy shit. That's genius!
great 4 hp module - SSF x DivKid RND step (6 channels of clocked random S&H). awesome video!
Ooh thanks for the suggestion, much appreciated!

FX aid by Happy Nerding is good, becoming harder to find.
For 4hp, I’d suggest Instruo ochd for modulation when you decide to use Tides as a voice. You get 8 related LFOs.
Oh hell yeah that’s a great recommendation! I remember a year or two ago they were few and far between, but I’ll have to see if I can find one.
@@SlowHaste Great module for almost any ambient patch.

Marbles is one of the best modules ever for eurorack! I love mine and get amazing results in spite of the steep learning curve.
I can’t remember if I say this in the video, but it absolutely is part of what makes modular “modular” for me!

Oh man that would be an absolute honor!! He was one of the OGs that got me into modular in the first place
Maybe another FX if you like ambient, the FX AID is great
I’m not familiar, I’ll have to check it out though!
o/a/x2 - a dual attenuator would be sooo helpful in this case
Right on! I was using my 1u tiles for that so I can see that being very helpful here

What is the benefit to go modular instead of hardware based like a samper , synth and a daw?

Hey, why not a disting? It’s not a hands-on analogue module, but it does do envelope/pitch following and so much more!
Somebody else suggested that and I’m super highly considering it! It could basically be the perfect whatever-I-need-at-moment’s-notice module
😍😍😍😍
4hp---Disting MK4

Came here to say the same thing! In a small case, it’s especially useful to have a Swiss-army knife of a module like that…
Surprised you didn't go with swn
I’d already obtained most of my modules by the time I learned about it, otherwise it would have been great!
