I was bereft at not having the vlog to watch last night. I was concerned that something might have happened so very pleased to hear it was just a technical glitch.
Charlie's is so very eloquent and sincere when he explained about his sobriety. As a 66 year old woman who likes a glass or two of wine every night, I know I need to at least cut back on my drinking, not least of all because , despite intermittent fasting, I am finding it hard to lose the weight!

I remember being teased because I wouldn’t indulge in the workplace. During an event, PANIC! Super opportunity presented itself for the company! CEO grabbed me, we have been offered XXX, you talk to them, you are the only one that is sober, we have been drinking! Joan Armatrading once said WHY WOULD I DRINK? WHILE EVERYONE FOLLOWS THE CROWD, I HAVE WRITTEN TWO ALBUMS, AND BOUGHT ANOTHER HOME. 🏠 BE SMART, STAY SAFE.

My best friend's husband lost 2 brothers to alcohol. One was in his 40s. His other brother had a successful career, wife, kids, and he lost his career and his life to alcohol in his early 60s, about 4 years ago. The devastation it can cause leaves a legacy. He will never meet his grandchildren. So, Charlie, if anyone makes a deal over your non imbibing, then leave them in the rear view mirror.

@@AllsWell77 It also proves that it does not matter how successful one is financially. As my therapist said : the definition of success is to feel right health wise and do what makes you truly happy and bloom without having to feel the need to follow what others do or how they live their lives. Having a family does not mean happiness for all. Having money or higher educated is not happiness for all.

Congratulations, Charlie, on 5 years sober. My husband is 5+ years as well. He quit cold turkey as he had a problem. He went to AA with his buddy; neither is religious, but he found that that was helpful when you broke off with fellow people in the group to chat. He hasn't gone in a couple of years, as he has focused on Scuba Diving. I had incredible parents; both were alcoholics. My father had significant accomplishments, but I was most proud of him for his 50 years of sobriety. BTW, addictions can be familiar; I never drank. Everyone has their own journey, but a vlog on your channel would be very useful.

Thank you Charlie & Josie for sharing your experience with alcohol. It’s so important to hear stories like yours, especially from people who seem to have a perfect life because it shows that struggles with alcohol can affect anyone. Your honesty about being the life of the party one night and the bull the next is something many have experienced themselves or through someone they know.
Josie, it would be lovely to hear more about how you navigated that time-so many people in relationships face the fear of not knowing which version of their partner they'll get when drinking, along with the social embarrassment and heartbreak of seeing their loved one act out of character. Thank you both again for being so open. Much Love, Gillian x

I agree with Charlie. Giving up something should be done when YOU feel ready to do so and at your own timing-that is the only way you will succeed and stick to it. Some people whether it is quitting drinking, smoking etc, cannot taper down, they have to do so cold turkey and never go back to it. Others need to taper down, it is down to the individual and their personality. I salute Charlie for quitting and still having booze around him--WELL DONE!

Charlie's sharing about his sobriety journey is so valuable! I quit drinking a few years back just cause I found I got nothing out of it, and I agree the stigma can be so frustrating sometimes! People can be so judgemental and it's frustrating having to defend yourself...I think the more we discuss it the more this stigma goes away :)

Charlie, that was such a revelation on your part and well done for speaking about it. I split with my partner, a man I love very much, because of binge drinking and it making him aggressive. Unfortunately, he would regress every six or seven months and it is the saddest family disease in the world, in my opinion. It affects everyone in the family. You have done so well in your recovery … and discussing it so openly was very brave, as it’s a disease that is so often hidden as you said. I want to express my thanks for sharing your experience with us and congratulations on your 5 years of sobriety. ❤

I loved the Charlie "rant" which was not a rant. 😀 Something I've noticed here in Canada at least, is that alcohol is often treated like it's part of "self-care" for women. You've worked hard all day, so take a hot bath with that glass of wine. You deserve it. Unfortunately, I don't think it's serving women at all and it gives a false sense that alcohol is good for your health. There are delicious non-alcoholic wines out there to be enjoyed that have the health benefits of the grape without the health negatives from the alcohol. It's great to see so many of these n/a wine options becoming more available these days - like on cruise ships for example. It's available - you just have to ask!

I am exactly the same, I had my time with alcohol and decided I didn’t like who I was or could be when I drank , I don’t drink and I actually find it really bizarre when people ask me why I DONT as opposed to well why DO YOU ? It’s simply poison?? Not sure why people think that’s a question to ask anyone actually it does annoy me. Another reason someone may not be drinking can be various reasons but for fertility etc so I think it’s very odd when people have to ask why etc BIG massive problems for women and the comment ‘are you pregnant’ its ridiculous!!!!

Some friends were lost after he got sober, but that is okay. However, he is in a much better place. When he is asked "would you like a drink?" He just says, "no, I am an alcoholic and I have been sober for a very long time.". I am so proud of him.

Very good to share a very real situation in which many are suffering from. Especially in the broken world we live in in which there is so much misery and misunderstanding even in our modern world. It is the human nature to judge , it is also a sign of lack of intelligence socially. We need more people to talk about actual facts and actual problems especially with social medias being filled with only what people want others to see. The reality is very painful or was very painful often. Your body your choice. One life that belongs to you.

I’m just in the beginning part of your video and I have to say your makeup around the eyes. I don’t know why today but it really just looks fantastic. Whatever you put on the lids with that little shimmer is perfection. Looks really great and I love the sweater over the dress.

I’ve stopped drinking over 14 months ago due to cardiac health reasons. I thought it would be difficult but to be honest it’s been fine. I’m 54 and reside in Australia but to be honest if I was younger perhaps it would have been more difficult particularly as you say in social situations. I agree Charlie I’m finding there are more and more nonalcoholic drink options when out at good restaurants which has provided me with more options particularly in a social setting. Thank you so much Charlie for being so sincere and sharing your journey thus far. This will undoubtedly inspire and help others who may also be struggling with alcohol dependency issues or cannot drink for other reasons🙏 ❤

I have a son who is 22, a senior in college and an athlete and he has never had alcohol and has no desire to try it. He is his college teammates designated driver and he has no desire to ever try it. He has access and has been offered, but he just says, I don't drink. So proud of him.

Why do parents who tend to be so competitive tend to feel the need to mention '' my son who is a academic student top of his class who has never done anything bad in his life '' Her husband is talking about a very real struggle, so your whole insensitive comment about your son being perfect ( which btw is bull ) keep it to your fantasy land.

@@--M--1111 that's a bit nasty - she never said her son was perfect, maybe it's easier for him as he doesn't desire it but he clearly isn't judgemental as he's prepared to be the designated driver for his team mates who do drink. That is a good guy.

Ps. I always chop several veggies at once then freeze them, Josie. I also pre-prep my cake and bread mixes, etc,and store them in zip-lock bags in the pantry. It makes a busy life so easy. ❤

Hi Josie, always , a pleasure to see you!! I've got a new found admiration for Charlie;breaking/kicking a habit is never easy.Taking responsibility and ownership for that habit in front of thousands/millions,is even more dynamic!! I applaud Charlie for doing such bravely selfless act to help others who may be going through the same/similar situation!!I totally agree with Charlie:January is DRASTIC ,and even a bit ridiculous ,if you will;to just break free from a habit, you had succumb to,all year round!!Kudos, congratulations and a standing ovation in order for you Charlie;5 1/2 years soberity.....truly amazing!!
