Great video! We have lived in San Diego, San Francisco, and Seattle and covered the entire coast. There are couple favorite spots that I’m sure you’d love like kayaking with sea otters in Elkhorn Slough or the Redwood forests. These days we are dreaming of moving to the Scottish Highlands. Have a magnificent trip.
Aw that sounds so cute! We didn’t get as far north as the redwoods unfortunately but next time we need to visit! Any other spots along the coast that we can’t miss?
The Oregon and Washington coast are fantastic but reminiscent of parts of Scotland. The Hoh rainforest and hurricane ridge in Olympic national park, hiking Mt Rainer and Crater Lake are great. Since you liked the wineries on this trip, try Mendocino on a future Northern California trek. Mendocino is one the only places you could kayak through sea caves, hike in redwoods, and go wine tasting in great vineyards in the same day.
I cannot wait for the wedding! I hope you guys share at least some of your big day! May the road always meet you with new adventures! Wonderful young couple of wanderers!
Great video guys, glad you enjoying your stateside adventure. Back in 1980, long before "van life" was a thing I spent two and a half months on a cross country trip. From Hudson Valley NY through southern Canada, across mid west to west coast and back along southern route was the route. My VW van was no match for today's fitted out vans but we did it. As you found out California can be difficult to manage some times. Back then there was absolutely no overnight parking anywhere near the coast unless you were fully self contained and even at that there were minimal spots. California coast was indeed a highlight of the trip. But while we were paying about $7.50 per night for campsites everywhere else we had to fork over $15.00 in Cali. For perspective gas was $1.25 per gallon back then. The state parks on the shore were cheaper but so crowded in the summer. You being here out of season is a big plus and you should consider that when you travel back here. Northern California, the Grand Canyon, San Diego, Colorado and South Dakota were my favorite spots. I've been to your native Scotland seven times and will be back in August. And it seems we both share the same bit of wonder when viewing each others country. It seems the states are less van life friendly than Scotland and Europe,,,what do you think?
Thank you so much! 😁 we loved this trip, it was such an adventure! Cannot wait to get back stateside and have our own home on wheels to tour around in one day 😆
I know that this is too late for you now but in the US and Canada Walmart welcomes all overnight campers and RV's as long as you park away from the store doors. It is free. I love your blog guys.
That was our usual park up when we couldnt find anywhere else haha the time we got the knock was the only night when there wasnt a Walmart nearby sadly
Great vlog guys, looks amazing out there, the overnighting rules in California though! Makes the difficulty in finding places over here not so bad after all. xx
Sooooo sorry you skipped San Francisco. It is one of the most amazing cities. The views, the people, the various neighborhoods, the trolley, the food on the pier!!! See if you can't get back there. Love your videos.
From those vineyards (never heard of Paso Robles..those views OMG)... to the Golden Gate, Lake Tahoe, Yosemite (almost can't catch your breath from it being taken away so many times!)...we cannot go wrong with this delightful extra long video from you guys this week! Sorry for the rude disruption, glad the cop was chill at least. Love the name Dolly! I was thinking if you were going to name her :) What a trip you had, so happy you loved it
Looks like you caught Hwy 80 up along the north side of Sacramento, for a stop in beautiful Truckee :) Interesting week snowman sharing your table during your lunch at Tahoe, no doubt that it was a male ;) Funny that you said the small island in Emerald Bay reminded you of another island with a church - that island has a small tea house on it that a wealthy woman built maybe 100 years or so ago. Anyway, glad you enjoyed California, have a great time in Canada!
We’ve had such an issue with homeless people in California that a lot of overnight parking for Camper vans has been very limited. It’s funny that you mentioned feeling at home with the weather here, when I visited Scotland I felt so much at home weatherwise! And also the coast reminded me so much of home as well. My family came from Lunan Bay so seeing that in person really hit home how much our coasts are similar. I hope you can come back someday and explore more of California, there’s so many incredible places to visit like Lake Shasta and Lassen National Volcanic Park, the wine countries in Sonoma, Napa, the Russian River Valley.
Yes it is a real shame that there is so much homelessness over there. Was a real eye opener! We would love to head back in our own van one day and visit more of the Parks 😁
Would it not be easier to buy a camper here in the US . Then sell it or store it. Seems very complicated to ship you camper. Also if your camper breaks down parts will be hard to get. Nice video of California!!!!
Yaay! You are coming to Banff, Alberta!!. Let me be the first to welcome Gemma and Campbell to my beautiful home province of Alberta! It would be so great if somehow you both made your way up to Edmonton 🙂 You will love Banff!
We will be doing a full USA tour in a van one day 😆 this was just the little taster we needed! We did love Cali though, the national parks were incredible

Me neither 😆 we will be not to worry! Taking you all along to Greece with us 😁
Yay Canada next! I hope you did the drive from Banff to Jasper! Can't wait to watch either way!
We sure did! What an incredible drive 😍 always on the lookout for bears though 😆
I do hope you come back and experience the northern coast! The redwoods up there are absolutely spectacular and a must see!
We would absolutely love to! One day we will bring our own van across! 😁

Wonderful vlog! Yeah San Francisco has near-constant break-ins on vehicles, such a shame. Many trailheads have that issue as well.
Thanks 😁 yeah it’s so sad as we would have loved to have spent more time there! Need to go back without a van so that we can relax a bit more

Yeah we couldn’t believe it! Nevada was much easier and more laid back so I think it’s just because California is just so busy!
Sooooo sorry you skipped San Francisco. It is one of the most amazing cities. The views, the people, the various neighborhoods, the trolley, the food on the pier!!! See if you can't get back there. Love your videos.
Aw I know! We would love to go back again without a van so that we don’t need to worry about break ins ☺️

Aw Paso Robles was such a cute with as well ☺️ and what a trip this one was! Had to bunch it all together to show the diversity in California!
Dream trip for me! Looks like a blast guys
Such a bucket list trip for us too
Thanks so much for responding. Trabuco Canyon & I would like to meet you in person because that would be really 😎 best wishes for you two.
Aw lovely! Will need to swing by next time we are touring California then 😁

We sure did! It’s a lovely place and I can see why Californians escape up to there during the summer months ☺️
What a road trip!!
It’s been amazing 😆

Amazing video like it
Thank you very much!
Why didn’t you come to Santa Rosa, CA! Dolly Parken?
We swung through and stopped for lunch to enjoy the seaside 😁 need to visit again with more time though!
I’m sad we can’t watch the elephant seal website in the uk !
Aw really?! That is sad, I was looking forward to tuning in next January 😂 a vpn should help!

We will be doing that next time I reckon! We only had two weeks to tour California unfortunately, but we will back back one day 😆
Sooo, when are you moving to America?
Haha just need to source the home on wheels and we will be back over!
When Scottish people moan about rain 😂😂😂
Yup haha should feel right at home 😂😂 just thought it would be sunnier in Cali
Okay, so you drove near my home and didn't wave hi...
Lol
Haha next time we will wave 😆 where do you stay?
could have melted snow on gas burner to wash dishes😊
That would have been an idea actually! Didn’t want to run out of gas though 😂
Yaay! You are coming to Banff, Alberta!!. Let me be the first to welcome Gemma and Campbell to my beautiful home province of Alberta! It would be so great if somehow you both made your way up to Edmonton 🙂 You will love Banff!
Thank you so much! It was an amazing trip 😁 tried skiing, drove to jasper, saw some wolf dogs. All coming this weekend 😁
Hari OM
Wonderful... make that outstanding! YAM xx
Thanks Yam 😁 glad you enjoyed our longer episode!
Leave California. It's not even like the rest of the US anymore. You should come down south, much nicer here in Florida. Plus we have law and order.
We will be doing a full USA tour in a van one day 😆 this was just the little taster we needed! We did love Cali though, the national parks were incredible
