I use ordinary pencils for sketching, but because I like to use pen for designs like this and tattoo designs I use fine line pens.. The brand name is ZIG.. Their a good brand because their pens don't bleed and make a mess like most other brands out there...
when I was 13 I was terrible at art.one time we had an art competition so I went into the 6th formers common room and found a drawing of this penrose steps and I erased the name and put mine on it.when the day came my teacher told the whole class what I did.i never looked at the back of the paper as the students full name was written on it and the year 1995 was on it too.the class laughed for months after.

Cheap ordinary pencils.. You can buy a pack of 12 from dollar tree..lol As for the pens, I get them from Hobby Lobby.. brand name is 'ZIG'

I sharpen my pencils with a scalpel blade.. But if your under the age of 16 I would not suggest it, keep using pencil sharpeners...
