    I love the modernization of LAX. The International terminal is amazing. So much room, modern, clean with lots of shops and eateries. Even the domestic terminals are changing and getting better reviews than prior years. Traffic is bad and TSA gets some heat. It will be a pain for the next 5 years but LAX needs to change. LAX is a moneymaking machine for the LA/SoCal area. People are traveling more than ever for business and leisure. Part of what gets people is the airport. An airport that is a big hot mess will lose billions of dollars in the metro economy by loss of business and loss in tourism. More capacity means more planes and more visitors. Adding new gates esp for big ass planes brings in tens of thousands a month for each gate. Each visitor spends about 1000-2000 dollars or more on things like hotels, taxi/uber, sightseeing, restaurants, shopping areas. You are talking about billions of dollars in money moves and economic activity . If LAX did nothing and it got so bad, then people might consider flying into another airport in another US city or another country to visit and spend all their money there. A lot of locals prefer to fly out of the smaller airports but LAX flights are generally more direct and cheaper and really no alternative for international.

      Of the powers that be in the 50 hadn't needed to the whims of GM as completely as they did, our public transportation system in LA would be even better than it is now. Had that not happened, access to LAx would be on par with BART, DART and TRE in the DFW and many of the other public transit systems in the US. With that said, it does improve with every transportation bond measure that passes. Just look at how much improvement there's been from the addition of the Orange Line in the late 90s until today with the building of the Crenshaw LAX line.
      Having gone to College near LAX @ Loyola Marymount (LMU) I am very familiar with the give and take the Airport, LMU and the residents in the neighborhoods in Westchester that abutt the airport have experience where it concerns both Airport expansion and the University's Master plan . The neighbors of the airport and university are not afraid to share their concerns about airport expansion and the noise that will come with it. There's a lot of give and take and compromise that continues to go on.

Metro Line will start at the Metro Expo Line/Cresnhaw Station, then travel south along Crenshaw Blvd and meet just outside at LAX where car rental place. Then continue on to the current Green Line tracks to Norwalk Station. A bus service will likely connect LAX terminals to the nearest Metro station while the people mover is being built and opening in 2023. Hopefully people will just pick up and drop off people at a Metro station, or pick up an uber from there instead of everyone coming into LAX. Traffic is so bad because everyone drives there.

There should be a second people mover running a continuous loop along the rooftops of all the main 7 terminals that is sealed off and within the security area. The cost of all this will be added to the travelers ticket cost since the airport charges the airline for each and every passenger who lands or takes off, this includes passengers who only go through the airport without even getting off the plane, so if you are on a flight that goes from Denver to Honolulu with a stop in LA you will be bumped for a fee at Denver, two at LA (land & TO) and a fourth at Hono. This fee can be as high as $25 and it won't be long before the FAA lets it go still higher. Back in the day the railroads built their own terminals on their own dime, why are airports different?

    • @henryostman5740
      @henryostman5740 5 лет назад

      Worse yet, due to an unfortunate commuter train accident in CA where the state hired a cut-rate engineer instead of using the host RR's engineers (you know-subcontracting outsourcing, the gobermint talks ill about it but does a lot of it themselves), the federal government foisted on the railroad industry this system called positive train control or PTC, it is based on using highly accurate GPS signals to control the movement of trains, unfortunately at the time, PTC was only a couple of scientific papers, no actual hardware had been designed and no software was under development, in addition they told the RRs that they had to have this operating in about five years or there would be hell to pay. As a result the RR industry has invested billion$$$, even on lines that already had a good proven working control system. Worse yet, the Federal government won't guarantee the continued operation of the GPS system on which all of this is based.
      Our corrupt socialist education system has taught generations of kids, many now adults, that the government bought and paid for the railway system when that assertion is an absolute lie. People blame the railroads about the poor condition of passenger service when that isn't operated by the railroads but by Amtrak and various state agencies, There is more government money (sorry taxpayer) spent on the new terminal at LAX than has been spent nationwide on AMTRAK in the past five years. Congress and the administrations have continually demanded that amtrak be self funded out of the farebox, that isn't going to happen, EVER.

    • @henryostman5740
      @henryostman5740 5 лет назад

      Major intercity trucking should be piggybacked by the railroads, for years the government blocked them from doing that but now they are almost free to do that. And they do a lot of it.
      I agree that there are too many cars but what is the alternative? for years I worked in NYC, northern bronx, try getting there by transit, and that's a city with good transit, most other places suck. It might be explained that most transit systems are government run by politicians, had a system here in PA where the boss didn't know that buses had rear engines like a vw beetle. He rode around in a government limo most of the time. Cities have cut off downtown shopping and business with too much traffic (man made traffic with too many traffic lights and other controls, adding 'bike' lanes hasn't help any), parking regulations and taxes, and often crime. So we have to go after our needs to shopping centers spread over the landscape like pimples on a teenager.

You indeed need to hire top of the top architects in the world to do the right job. The so called wave inspired design looks so cheap and bad as if it's designed by a mediocre architecture student (Of course they don't have the ability/taste to understand this). The fact that these different designs coming and tied together in unity however is conceptually interesting.

It will be a situation like the people mover is The monument to a project gone wrong. People are desperate for parking spaces, people movers don't run on time, they break down, and people are wondering when real solutions will be made.
