There is a reason they are called the Fsir Folk - people were afraid of them, as they are powerful and capricious beings. Grimmsnarl being partially Fairy type is a great example ingame that embodies fae lore.
Edit due to rewatch: hmmm, so would the violent, viral, fight-loving humanoid fungus races known as the various Warhammer 40k Orkoid races be forbidden to eat according to Peter? Orks and Gretchin are sentient... in their own way, but the various types of Squigs are not (and Orks even eat some types, iirc). 🤔

Questions I now have to ask myself - could you just eat the Sunflora petals? What about the Sunkern leaves? How does this rule work for other grass-type 'mons? Why do I need to know these answers - I'm not even a vegetarian!! 😂

That’s not what the runs means
As a vegan, I feel qualified to answer the Sunflora question:
It *would* be vegetarian to eat a sunflora, since it is a plant. But it would *not* be vegan, because it causes unnecessary harm
Vegetarian here, I agree.
Different vegetarian here, I wouldn't eat a plant pokemon. I think you could still eat pokemon byproducts where the pokemon doesn't die and it'd be vegetarian, but still not vegan.
A lot of all-plant stuff still causes "unnecessary harm", especially in cases like abuse of farm workers
