those came on my new bike. up to now I find them good, but haven't jet dismounted them. I also like the steel chainring, since my last alu-chainring lasted only ~1000Km I am also pleasantly surprised about the SX derailleur. shifting is good and since it is made out plastic it can be more durable than the GX since I would not expect it to permanently deform and cause bad shifting performance.

Fast forward 13 years and here lies the frame lol. I have found bits of information here and there about the frame specs , measurements etc… I was going to start with the bottom bracket/cranks but all I know is that it is a 68mm English thread BB . How do I determine the spindle length? Also I am assuming this is a non boost frame based on age alone… I was going to go with a relatively inexpensive SRAM NX drive train for a cost effective build. Any information would be helpful. Anyone know the best way to get going on this build as I would love to start doing this for a hobby. Just bought a nice park bike stand and am purchasing tools….. Any help would be much appreciated!

Aside from unifying BSA and pressfit do you find any improvement over GXP? For my newest bike I picked up a new old stock X01 carbon GXP crankset (circa 2013 with the removable 2x direct mt spider) and it's working great on a boost frame with an oval chainring.
Glad to hear other GXP users out there. I owned several DUB cranks, and replaced them with GXP. DUB just doesn't spin as freely, even with the tension collar not engaged. Plus I stripped out 2 of the collar set screws before discovering the Cane Creek collars. And then is the difficulty of loosening the DUB cranks, as shown in the video. GXP isn't perfect, but I'm sticking with it, as long as the BB bearings are still available.
Hello, can you convert the powerspline variant of the sram sx crankset into a dub one? Is there some kind of accessories to use so that i can convert it?
Cane Creek DUB bottom bracket comes with a metal one that they also sell separately, but I read somewhere that the plastic is actually preferable because it is super important to not over-tighten it. Suprised the person who created the video didn't include more warnings about it? The SRAM DUB installation videos and the instructions that come with the bottom brackets include a lot of warnings about not over-tightening the ring which from my understanding really just a moveable spacer to keep the bearings in the proper place...

those came on my new bike. up to now I find them good, but haven't jet dismounted them. I also like the steel chainring, since my last alu-chainring lasted only ~1000Km
I am also pleasantly surprised about the SX derailleur. shifting is good and since it is made out plastic it can be more durable than the GX since I would not expect it to permanently deform and cause bad shifting performance.
@@LoveMTB I used the SX derailleur for about 4000km before it bent. I went for a GX 2021 as replacement. For the price I think the SX was an "okay" product.
@@LoveMTB Currently it made 1,5 months with 315Km. Covered in mood at every round.
If it makes it to 4000Km I will definitely buy it again. 60€ for the SX 120€ for the GX
@@LoveMTB Hey I have to report that the clutch of my SX derailleur started to fail after 640Km. Today I disassembled the clutch and found that it is not the advertised "roller bearing clutch". It uses an spring as the blocking mechanism.
@@LoveMTB maybe there are different version out. however mine does not have the "roller bearing" one. Just to be shure I took an GX one apart, because from the outside it look absolutely the same
Can you install one of these on any bike?
For a Trek Marlin would I use the boost or non-boost version?
Can it get in at 8 speeds back?
I have one question about the compatibility of these cranks:
Can you use a Shimano 12s chain on an eagle drivetrain?
I have read that it's not possible but that site also said that SRAM eagle Shifters don't work with Shimano 12s derailleurs, which you have proven wrong.
Nice Video!! One Question, is this SX SRAM 12 speed boost Crankset with 11 Speed boost compatible? I just bought this Crankset for my Sons bike (165mm) and i want install it with a Shimano deore 11 Speed system (11-51 cassette and shimano 11 Speed derailleur). We also have the sram chainring for shimano chains.
Hi good day just want to ask regarding the cassette issue because i bought speed one soldier 12S 32 holes and i have sram nx PG1230 cassette i just wonder if it will fit on my huns? Thank tou and more power
can't believe they are still selling 3 piece cranks, for those ultra cost cutting bike builds i guess
I had an option to choose between SX or NX equiped bike.... I paid 50 eur more and went for NX. SX cassette, chain and derailleur are very low quality parts. You can change parts later on, correct? Yes, but derailleur for example is quite expensive...
@@LoveMTB no, SX chain is really bad, also the SX cassette is not the same as NX (the SX cassette has no SRAM logo), and NX derailleur is quite expensive, cca 100 eur.... so, upgrading these 3 elements is not cheap...
Just got a Niner with SX group set but it has X1 crankset. No idea if X1 is better or not. Do you know anything about this X1 1000 crankset?
@@LoveMTB interesting. My X1 crank is definitely alloy with steel chainring. I see it listed in SX group set on SRAM website but can’t find any other info about it. I wish it was carbon lol. Thanks for the videos very helpful.
Is the red frame the Octane one Prone 29 ?
@@LoveMTB Nice ! I'm actually building one with deore 5100 cranks, RD and cassette, XT 8000 brakes and shifter , Formula 35 140mm fork, DT 1700 wheelset. Should be ready to hit the trail early next week. Happy new year
Is this compatible on 10 speed?
Is there the SX without DUB BB?
I have the 2020 model SX and it is just a black bolt
For 10 to 15 more dollars you can get a GX rear derailleur that's twice as stiff
Sorry to bother you
I have this set of cranks and wondering if they'll fit my Meta SX which is BB92
Crankset Race Face Aeffect SL
Chainring Sizes 30t
Crank Arm Length 170mm
Bottom Bracket Race Face Cinch
Bottom Bracket Type PF92
My high end bike came with GX 175MM. I ride very rocky terrain and the pedal strikes are unbearable. I'm considering "downgrading" from GX to SX so I can try a 155MM crank.
What is your opinion; go with 165MM GX (better quality, lower weight, but a small improvement in pedal strikes) OR a 155MM SX (lower quality, vastly improved pedal strikes)
How can I find that dub bottom bracket on Amazon for de sram sx? 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
@@LoveMTB Which one is the one fix with sram sx group set? Option1) the SRAM DUB PressFit Bottom Bracket - BB89.5/BB92, 89/92mm, MTB, Black or the option2) SRAM DUB English Bottom Bracket - English/BSA, 68/73mm, Black
Or I need both???
Do you get the 4.5mm spacer with the BB?
It works fine
I grew up like many finding bikes and rebuilding them, always loved doing this.
Back in 2009 I bought a Giant ATX hard tale frame on eBay thinking I would collect parts and build a bike. Fast forward 13 years and here lies the frame lol.
I have found bits of information here and there about the frame specs , measurements etc…
I was going to start with the bottom bracket/cranks but all I know is that it is a 68mm English thread BB .
I have Sx on my ebike with FSA crank arms. It's very ok to me but i need a recommendation for a good and no so expensive chain. For the moment i have 500 km and the chain is ok . It's not a problem for me if it will be a heavy chain, i need just to be very resistant. Maybe you can help from your experience.
Muy buen análisis. Gracias por el aporte.
Hello! I've bought an SX crank and it was very cheap so I had to get it, problem is it didn't come with a Dub bottom bracket. Noob question. Can I use another bottom bracket that aren't DUB ones?
@@LoveMTB Great! That was quick. Thanks for your insight brother. Might check out those videos as well.
Is the spindle made of steel or aluminum?
@@LoveMTB just a question. I have a similar system crankset but it all aluminum. Would it still be good? This crankset in my country would cost me an arm and a leg and only a few available too in my market.
@@LoveMTB ohh ok. Maybe because sram is reputable when compared to knock off their cranksets. I have a deckas mc-012 I believe and it's all aluminum also the spindle. I have doubts on the integrity of its aluminum spindle. Thanks for answering my question and I love watching your reviews. Hoping I could get my hands on sram cranksets soon
GXP isn't perfect, but I'm sticking with it, as long as the BB bearings are still available.
can be used for 11 speed?
Hello, can you convert the powerspline variant of the sram sx crankset into a dub one? Is there some kind of accessories to use so that i can convert it?
@@LoveMTB is it worth it?
@@LoveMTB Ok thanks👍
are sram nx eagle fit on any bikes? cause i want to upgrade from my shimano acera to this groupset
If I go from 30t to 34t chainring
Do I need a longer chain?
@@LoveMTB OK thanks, is there a way to find out how to size correctly?
Is there any brand of chainring that will accommodate 26t and 28t on SX crankset? Thank you
28 tooth is available in 11 speed, not in the 12 speed Eagle version, as I recall.
Any thoughts on the powerspline version of the SX cranks? They are even heavier than the dub version
The Powerspline BB+cranks combo is almost 300g heavier than this. That’s a lot.
Can you do a video on DUB press fir BB92?
@@LoveMTB sorry, I mean removing the SRAM DUB press fit BB92.
@@LoveMTB thanks
Happy new year to you as well! That preload adjuster feels so cheap. Should probably be metal.
How do you like the 30T chainring with the 1x12 setup? Also would you go 30T oval with 1x12 or 32T oval ?? Thanks
@@LoveMTB So you would go 30T oval if lots of hill climbing??
@@LoveMTB Ahh, I have the cheap
sram 11-50t SX , with 32t chainring. Debating on getting 32T oval or 30T oval ?
@@LoveMTB Thanks, I did get rid of the Sram SX 12 speed shifter and put the Shimano Xt shifter on like one of your videos. Shimano shifts a lot crisper and I like the index finger shifting.
i have a marin san quentin 3 and planning to install SRAM NX. which one should i get, the boost or non-boost? appreciate your response!
@@LoveMTB thank you so much! :):):)
Holy crap, that 8mm bolt is locked tight... can't get mine off
LoveMTB, nice video! I have a question that is not about this video.
Can I use sram chain on an absolute black chainring that currently has shimano chain. I guess my question is, are chainrings different between sram and shimano? Both are 12 speed chains and the chainring is also from a 12 speed setup.
I bought a bike with shimano XTR derailleur, cassette, chain and raceface aeffect cranks with absolute black chainring. Well, I am switching it over to sram xo1 axs derailleur and cassette. I also have a new xx1 chain. I cant find any info about the chainrings though!!!
Thanks to anyone who can help with an answer
Will this work on 10 speed?
