You know, coming back to this 11 months later and seeing it again; I'd like to add that despite being brutally stabbed twice; With a stinger the size of an overhead crane hook and a sheer force so great his body bounced on the floor with each jab; The guy still screamed as he was yeeted away suggesting he lived through that. What an absolute unit that guy!
The way the music fits so perfectly on the movements - 'mickey mousing' was already pretty uncommon back then and it's really nice to still get some of that great musical work.

I was like 7 when this movie came out. I was obsessed with it. I had it recorded on DVR and would watch it over and over. This scene was my favorite part.
Honestly I don’t see this movie as that good but this scene is amazing. The scorpions, while not the best of CG, still look amazing and have weight to them, probably due to the great sound design. They also use practical effects for the up close claws whenever the entire scorpion isn’t in frame, and even use some sort of real goo for the blood. The scene is tense and fast paced and doesn’t outstay it’s welcome. Very nice.
He’s not directing the scorpions though lol, that’s the work of the special effects/cgi artists. Did you really think that on set he was like “Yeah, Scorpion #1, oh sorry, you like being called Anthony, yeah, just swing down your stinger at exactly… 3… 2… 1… now”.
@@CeruleanSword no the scene is well choreographed. The director told the CGI artists what to use for the scene as well as what soundtrack to pair it too.
I feel like that double strike is nature accurate. A scorpion will hit you twice but you thought it was once. This guy knew it was twice for sure though. Lol
I must say - the way they managed to Io, Gemma Arterton's character, as something both mortal yet supernatural was remarkable. She was a human woman who spurned Zeus' lust, so the god cursed her with eternal beauty and youth - so even though she would remain forever beautiful, she'd be forced to see her loved ones - husbands, children, friends - grow old and die, while she herself would remain ever-youthful.
Theres a story about the original King Kong movie before it was released to theaters. The test audience was apparently so horrified by the trench scene that they ran out of the theater. So that scene was cut from the theatrical release and was also sadly lost. However Peter Jackson is a massive fan of the original movie that he had the trench scene recreated not just in his adaptation but also in the original style. So you could imagine how terrified audiences back then would feel if they saw this scene and the Mudusa scene.
"Get over here" the giant scorpion shouted to Perseus at minute 02:29. Bad joke but I wanted to imagine its attack and rage trying the killing blow against Perseus.
I visited the place where this scene was shot a few weeks ago. Teneriffa ist a beautiful island, a lot of this movie and the sequel was shot there. Great location
The sun is planning to blow in 5B years, but after 3B-4B years temperature will be too hot, which will make humans leave Earth, then the Scorpions and spiders will get their size again
