from one black brother to another: Our hair is naturally more oily and fragile compared to other hair types like straight hair. It’s completely advised to have a proper was day routine with shampoo and conditioner, as well as a deep conditioner for better moisture penetration of the scalp. Take care Fel!
@@timekabolden5309I think it’s just that our hair requires the oil more than other races so completely stripping our hair of the natural oils isn’t a good idea for us as it will make the hair hard and bristle and snap easily. I’m waiting to see the effect of this type of treatment on our hair the good thing is there was good oil left on his scalp but I don’t know if this treatment was made with our people in kind
Afro hair is less oily than that of other races actually. Mostly due to it having a harder time traveling throughout the hair strand because it doesnt lay flat.
@@martinea199 I agree they may not have made it with different hair types in mind, but I feel like the difference wouldn't be too major, just a few tweaks here and there to properly suit afro type hair. I also think the long run effect wouldn't be too bad even for people with afro hair as long as it's done only occasionally. Having the pores unclogged doesn't seem like such a bad thing as long as one has the understanding to do it occasionally just like we know it's not good for our hair to be washed daily. The understanding for the basic hair technicalities is there (though here you can clearly tell bits when her knowledge is lacking about curly/coily hair types, which understandably for her situation) so it would probably just require a few tweaks here and there to suit afro kind hair.
She seemed a bit scared to get into your hair at first, probably worried it would hurt you since they're not used to such thickness. But once she got used to it she really got in there parting the curls down to the scalp real good.
I'm from NY-- head massage isn't a typical part of a Western hair salon experience (maybe in high-end spas?), but I've seen it as a regular service in a lot of Asian salons (where that scalp inspection is really popular, too).
I recently watched a video that said that all we know about curly hair is wrong because it's based on the assumption that we need oil based products and protecting our hair by doing the most but that actually we need less oil and more water based products. So 1 month ago i bought hair products that had moisturizing effects without oil and stopped using all the oil leave in conditioners. My natural hair texture has improved a lot and it feels healthier and lighter and the curls are coming back. I also stopped wrapping my hair tight or putting it tight little buns because i want an evenly texturized head of hair and i see the difference too. I let my hair down as often as i can. It makes me sad i didnt know what my hair needed for so long..and i spent so much money on the wrong stuff. This video literally just reinforced the idea of letting my scalp breathe, use water based products, massage the scalp and to sleep more lol.
My mok spent years looking for the right products! I still do to, most importantly is the moisture. I spray my hair every morning, it keeps my curls happy
I watch a lot of these type of headspa videos from China, Japan, Thailand and I think it is a common practice in counties from this part of the world. I think it is seen as part of a holistic practice to help maintain balance in the whole body.
Yes I noticed that my roots were very oily so i needed to clarify and treat my scalp so my hair wont look greasy. I take my time scrubbing my scalp with a clean shampoo and invested into products that would help and so far it’s doing well! Helps my follicles breathe but this scalp treatment is def something i would do
I've always really wanted to see this on a oily scalp. Usually the scalp is barely dirty before they begin. But it's nice to see on natural African hair since it has such a different texture and uses different products than Asian and European hair. Thank you for sharing!
Just something to add there, caucasian isn't the equivalent to white, it's the ethnicity of those native to the Caucasus, so it's always better to simply say white (hispanic could be also a category on it's own btw, but that's a bit of a stretch). Have a good day/night!
The lady said it wasn't dirty just oily. Everyone is suppose to have oil in their hair. He just had an excess of it. Stripping your hair of oil is not healthy. It's why stylist say not to wash everyday.
In a big city in the USA I used to go to a Chinese salon and they gave incredible head massages while washing your hair. It wasn’t fancy but it was so good.
This was like an ASMR Twix video lol, she lives in Japan and gets those headspa treatments (with the bag of steam and all) on a regular basis. Check out her channel if you just want to watch Japanese spa videos 😊 I had never seen those scalp treatments until her channel but I get the sense they are common across Asia. This whole video was like an ASMR video actually. It was interesting to see a black person do a headspa treatment, I never really stopped to think if these kinds of treatments are adapted for Afro textured hair? Did your hair feel ok after the treatment or did you have to go “fix” it later? Would you do it again? It also looks like she did some gua sha on your scalp (the weird instrument that kind of looked like a hair pick), she was saying she was supposed to run it through the whole scalp. I guess since she has never worked with textured hair before she was just doing the hair on your hairline on your forehead. I think she did a good job though!
Now that I go to a salon owned by a Vietnamese woman, her assistant washes twice a, conditions, and massages my scalp, face, and shoulders. I'm white and no other hair salons I've gone to have done this treatment every time.
I don’t know how on earth I got this but now thanks to YT I’m packing my suitcase and flying there right this minute!! That was just so amazingly weird and wonderful to see and I sure as heck would get to love treatments like this in a heartbeat. 😮😅🤣🤣
This is such great info! And yes, black hair is different, but our scalps are all the same. This info is important for everyone and I agree that everyone should get this done at least once in their lifetime. I also got a hair type analysis about a year ago which helped me more than I ever could have imagined. My hair is so much healthier now that I know my porosity type for certain (there's the old "drop your hair in water and see how fast it sinks" test which is essentially useless - only hair analysis will let you know for sure). I promise that it's worth the price because it will help you pick the right products in the long run and avoid buying ones that won't work for you. You wouldn't believe the amount of products I'd buy only to never use them and have to throw away because they weighed my hair down and turned it into a greasy mess.
The technician did a great job cleaning and caring for your hair and scalp. The before image was appeared as such because sweat and oils (sebum and others) cause buildup on the scalp naturally. Quick washes of the hair while barely manipulating the scalp does not properly clean the scalp or pores of the scalp. A good washing would have caused the scalp to appear the same under the microscope. That being said, the service provided was great. Far beyond the wash and conditioning offered in the US. The steam helped to further open the pours. Your scalp was prepped so that it would be able to accept more of the essential oils and waste less. Great job.
You do this treatment at least 4 times a year and your hair will grow like mad. I do this to my beard once a month by myself and wow. Soft, clean manageable and most of all healthy.
For your question, it's super common for multiple services to be rendered at once in China. I could go and get a haircut and end up getting my hair washed, scalp massaged, and also a haircut at the end. It's very comprehensive and affordable in China.
Fel let's count how many times you said "OH" on today's vlog 😅😂... just kidding but it was kinda funny 🤣 This woman knows about hair though she was right about when our hair is usually dry, our scalp try to compensate by making more oil...

When that eye mask went on, I was already to relax. I would definitely enjoy a full service experience - analysis, relaxation and total haircare.
This was very educational, and as black people we do produce more oil from our skin. Which is why we need more specialised products/treatment/care for our hair and skin. What work on different hair and skin will not work the same on ours.
No we don’t. Black people need to stop putting additional oils onto the scalp and wash the hair more often. A clean clear scalp will promote hair growth
@@LatchKeyKid_78actually we do, it has been scientifically proven. We have more sebum to protect the scalp which is why we do not need to wash daily because it will cause damage. Additional oils can help our scalp and hair retain moisture.
Very good and informative Fel. Men we need to take care of our scalps is my take away. Secondly please could you share the names of the treatment ingridients plus the equipments they used on your scalp? This will greatly assit those of us who own salons / barber shops in Africa. Wow!! You're being treated like royalty 😅 I would love ❤️ to purchase the ginger sugar that she placed on your scalp. I've never had a message while getting my hair washed. That's a luxury 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
hey bro, since you have African genetics I would look more carefully online as your hair naturally does produce more sebum which is the oily substance. That is completely normal for a black vs chinese person. Whatever knowledge the woman shared with you may be correct for chinese but not necessarily all races.
Thank you for saying this! You do not treat straight Chinese hair the same as curly African/Black hair. If you are washing your Back hair daily, you are washing it too much. If you wash your hair too much (daily), your scalp will produce more oil to replace the oil you are stripping off of your scalp and off of your hair. Your hair needs that oil. You just need to massage your scalp. The only reason people with straight hair wash their do much is because they run their hands through their hair all day and it gets oily and the natural oil production makes the hair oily and weighed down (greasy).
@@TanukiOfficial it's not because they run their hands through their hair, it's because the straighter the hair the more oil can travel down the hair shaft
@thekalenichannel1812 Hair is no different than a cell phone. If you handle your hair or a cell phone a lot, the oils off your hands will transfer onto your hair or cell phone and make them greasy. Running your hands through your hair also spreads the sebum throughout your hair; therefore, making it greasy. From Pantene's website: "We all love running a hand through freshly washed hair, but *touching your hair or rubbing your scalp may actually encourage your scalp to increase its sebum production.* By running your hand through your hair, you're also moving the sebum around your hair, which will add to the greasy appearance." This is why the old curl and set hairstyles lasted so long without being greasy looking because no one was running their hands through their hair.
Yes, it's common to get a scalp massage when getting hair done. Although it's not as lovely as the place you're at. It's a pretty quick scalp massage when the beautician is washing/conditioning your hair before getting it done.
I went back and forth from the beginning and end of the video to check your hair out. I'm not an expert on black folks hair, but I gotta say it definitely looked shinier and the texture seemed more aesthetic when you walked out. The microscopic look at your scalp was also wild haha
I think I would be horrified to see my scalp, but it does look cool. I feel like I need this in my life. To get a head massage is common in a ladies salon, but a full body chair is next level.
This video provides valuable information. I appreciate the use of ingredients that make sense for hair care. The specialist's insights about oil in the scalp resonate with me. I don't wash my hair the way stylists do at salons, where they deeply clean the cuticles, and this could contribute to oily buildup. A thorough deep cleaning, especially for individuals of African descent, is beneficial for hair health, allowing it to breathe and potentially addressing hair loss concerns before further issues arise.

It’s completely advised to have a proper was day routine with shampoo and conditioner, as well as a deep conditioner for better moisture penetration of the scalp. Take care Fel!
NOT naturally more oily. Their (white n more races) is. That's why they wash everyday. 😂
Black hair doesn’t need washing everyday. We have less oil in our hair so washing everyday will not help. Also, black hair is not fragile
Yay OMG!!! I been waiting for this because no one ever creates data on what darker skin looks like with a healthy scalp. We need more information.
I'm from NY-- head massage isn't a typical part of a Western hair salon experience (maybe in high-end spas?), but I've seen it as a regular service in a lot of Asian salons (where that scalp inspection is really popular, too).
Indian barbers do it in NYC, saw a video of them. Very thorough
I was just wondering if I could just go to Flushing and get this done. I do know that Indian salons do massages, but I want all the above lol
Your hair looks thick, but super soft. Now, I'm on the hunt to find someone to do this in or near Cali because I definitely want this treatment.
he has high hair density but she is correct when she says his hair (strands) are thin. i was surprised she recognized this.
I’ll be in Cali soon so if you locate a salon that does this, please post! Thanks
@@msharistarchild5046 Will do!
They're becoming more and more prevalent all over Cali. Just Google Head/Hair/Scalp Spa's to find one in or near your area.
@@justbenice7448 thanks
Her professionalism is A1+.
Now i’m mad that this wonderful service is not the norm 😮 this is needed everywhere 🙌🏿🙌🏿
Damn that is like VIP A++++ hair treatment!
I must say, being an American, it's so nice to see a black man respectfully and amicably cared over. Healing so much healing.
This is such a weird comment lol

@nunyabidness9482 So black people aren't victims of... are you real?
I watch a lot of these type of headspa videos from China, Japan, Thailand and I think it is a common practice in counties from this part of the world. I think it is seen as part of a holistic practice to help maintain balance in the whole body.
Yes I noticed that my roots were very oily so i needed to clarify and treat my scalp so my hair wont look greasy. I take my time scrubbing my scalp with a clean shampoo and invested into products that would help and so far it’s doing well! Helps my follicles breathe but this scalp treatment is def something i would do
Watching this is almost as I had it done myself. So relaxing.
It’s not dirty, it’s oily. Did you listen to what she was saying?
@@annierminx I am Mexican. I have fine, long, straight hair which I wash everyday. I don't see how it would be in a category of its own.
I have never had a massage whilst having my hair washed! Sounds like it's such a relaxing experience ❤
I need this hair therapy. Looks so soothing and relaxing
Love how gentle she is with your hair and scalp !
In a big city in the USA I used to go to a Chinese salon and they gave incredible head massages while washing your hair. It wasn’t fancy but it was so good.
I could immediately see a difference after your cleaning and conditioning. Looks lovely and shiny. ❤
Thanks for sharing!
Fel let's count how many times you said "OH" on today's vlog 😅😂... just kidding but it was kinda funny 🤣
This woman knows about hair though she was right about when our hair is usually dry, our scalp try to compensate by making more oil...
and "oki, oki " 😂😂
Haha 😂
Your hair turns out so beautiful at the end. I really like it like this.
This is amazing. ❤
I am going to China just for this treatment. This treatment is special so look out for a huge bill.
I have trichologist near me that specialize Black hair. But, the entire experience is nothing like this! 😆 The analysis of the scalp and recommended treatments specifically for an individuals hair type and scalp are on point though!
When that eye mask went on, I was already to relax.
I would definitely enjoy a full service experience - analysis, relaxation and total haircare.
I watch your wash and I feel relaxed
I’m so proud of them for treating you so nicely ❤
what?
This was very educational, and as black people we do produce more oil from our skin. Which is why we need more specialised products/treatment/care for our hair and skin. What work on different hair and skin will not work the same on ours.
No we don’t. Black people need to stop putting additional oils onto the scalp and wash the hair more often. A clean clear scalp will promote hair growth
@@LatchKeyKid_78black hair is dry we need that extra oil. Our hair is not like other people that produce oil and needs to be washed 3 times a week
They will not listen lol. They believe everything told to them .
This!
From Pantene's website:
"We all love running a hand through freshly washed hair, but *touching your hair or rubbing your scalp may actually encourage your scalp to increase its sebum production.* By running your hand through your hair, you're also moving the sebum around your hair, which will add to the greasy appearance."
This is why the old curl and set hairstyles lasted so long without being greasy looking because no one was running their hands through their hair.
Yes, it's common to get a scalp massage when getting hair done. Although it's not as lovely as the place you're at. It's a pretty quick scalp massage when the beautician is washing/conditioning your hair before getting it done.
I really like Chinese people They work hard 💪💪,
That’s very nice. Keep up the good work my brother. Thank you very much for sharing this experience.
I went back and forth from the beginning and end of the video to check your hair out. I'm not an expert on black folks hair, but I gotta say it definitely looked shinier and the texture seemed more aesthetic when you walked out. The microscopic look at your scalp was also wild haha
Fully watched. Scalp cleaning and massaging is the way to clean one's hair.
I too have learned so much today about the scalp care.
This was enjoyable to watch! Now, all you need is Shea butter and vitamin E oil or avocado oil to keep your hair moisturized.
I came here to watch the hair care. Leaving here intrigued with the dialog between the two. Primarily, his speaking Chinese. That’s impressive.
I have never seen such a great treatment in the Netherlands for the last 30 years😍👌💟
As black people the oil in our scalp keeps our hair healthy
Yes I was thinking this, perhaps she’s not too aware of coarse hair
she actually said during the dry season, he needs to put healthy oils in his hair or else his skin will start producing excess oil to compensate.
Yeah there are good oils for our hair but not all oils are good. They cause build up and clogged pours.
Educational and informative thanks Tommy ❤
