Hey Jenny For the vegan feta we take Simply Hirtengenuss (we live in Switzerland, but I'm almost sure you will find Simply products in the UK too). For mozzarella we recently discovered the tasty products from Julienne Bruno (they are actually based in London). For yoghurt I can highly recommend Sojade, they do even nicer yoghurts than Alpro and they are organic too. We as Swiss people have even our vegan raclette and cheese fondue from New Roots. They are a Swiss company.
Yeees I love Sojade’s natural yoghurt! I’m very picky with plant based yoghurts, I never enjoyed the usual brands like Alpro, Oatly etc. They contain additives like emulsifiers etc. and I think this creates a weird mouthfeel (also, they make me feel ill quite often). Sojade’s yoghurt is just soy beans, water and yoghurt culture - so much tastier!
I agree with Sojade, their products are amazing, even if I like Alpro too. :) I'd add that Nurish and Violife do pretty amazing cheese as well (feta, mozzarella...).
Only Jenny can make mundane food of Fermented tofu (called Fu Ru腐乳 in Chinese) looks so aesthetically pleasing❤❤ 😂 I grew up eating it with Congee in Shanghai. Don’t eat too many of them though, it is too salty to have it daily.
For vegan yogurts my favourite is Sojade, I find it soo much better then Alpro and also doesn’t have any preservatives! I find it in organic shops mainly
You can make a really yummy vegan Haloumi with tofu pressed, then rubbed with and marinated in lemon juice, mint, salt and nooch, then grilled (or pan-fried, but grilled is best). It even squeaks a bit;-)) I found the recipe on the great blog One Arab Vegan.
I like how there are things that are "automatically" vegan, like fruit salad with nuts or seeds for a crunch. My favourite sandwich is topped with almond butter and sliced strawberries or with dijon mustard, avocado, lime and fresh coriander.
Just came back 2 weeks later to say thanks for this new discovery of almond butter & strawberries! I'm having it on toast as a breakfast, rather than a sandwich but 💛
Amy's Organic Black Bean Veggie Burger - My favorite burger, served with vegan mayo mixed with Crystal hot sauce (which is not really hot, so I call it Crystal pepper sauce). I enjoyed this video very much!!
The fermented tofu is so good! ❤ I’m Vietnamese and remember my mom letting me try some as a kid. It was stinky so I was scared but when she had me try it with some rice, my life changed 😂 There’s so much flavor packed into those cubes, and it goes great with rice or a side of steamed veggies! So happy to hear you’ve discovered this delicious stinky tofu 😂
Hi Jenny, Here is my lazy day recipe: Bolognese with walnuts is the best thing ever. Prepare it just as you would a traditional minced meat version. Fry the onions, but add crushed walnuts instead of meat. (You can add cooked/canned lentils as well, but honestly, there's no need.) Stay alert because it will be ready in no time. Add a bit of tomato purée, herbs (oregano and thyme), salt, and pepper. Then add the tomato sauce and let it cook until it puffs up once. Make sure to start with boiling water the pasta first. Finally, add some "Oh great ... nut cheese" Parmesan and a few leaves of basil to finish it off like a low-key master chef. 😅
Am a born Pakistani, raised in Saudi Arabia and studied in England….love Kala Namak (black salt). Always have at least three jars of it in our kitchen, in it’s original rock form. It is one amazing umami punch. Try it in sour drinks. Yum. Absolutely adore your videos and aesthetic. Love and regards from Saudi Arabia xx
Ok so THE best vegan feta cheese (that I have tried so far) is "greek style" made by a brand called GreenVie. I find it in most supermarkets in Stockholm. Just looked it up and it looks like they are based in Cyprus, so I would believe their products can be found all around Europe. Also, they have won awards for their plant based cheeses.
Mozzarella from Dreamfarm. Made with sustainable almonds in Parma, Italy, but you can buy it now at mainstream supermarkets in Belgium! Great taste and low in saturated fats because almond-based :-)
I really like the Violife feta! I think it doesn’t really taste exactly like dairy feta, but it’s super creamy and tasty. My favorite vegat cheese honestly. I put it in chili and pasta salad.
Lidl here in Sweden has a feta called "Plant-based Greek style block" that I like and it's quite affordable too! And also Greenvie and Violife has some nice feta :) They're all a bitt different from one another, which is nice! So just figure out which one you like most :) Lidl in Spain has some nice vegan proteinbars I wish would be sold in Sweden!
I make cultured almond cream cheese. Clean ingredients. Easy to make and absolutely divine. Also make a chickpea tuna using chickpeas, tinned artichokes and Hellman’s mayo. Look out for OXO vegan chicken and beef flavoured stock cubes. I crumble firm tofu into the chicken stock cube. Then fry in oil. Use that to make a base for Coronation chicken.
The best feta alternative: Vegan Greek white cubes by Rainbow, sold in Prisma and Alepa supermarkets in Finland. It's a tall green package containing cubes immersed in liquid (the blocks I tried so far are terrible). I haven't found anything closer to real feta than this. Recommend recommend! (as Jenny would say)
Interesting about the seaweed caviar. Funny enough, in Russia, vegetarian "zucchini caviar" has been around for a long time, but it's honestly nothing like caviar - it's basically a spiced zucchini or eggplant spread.
Interesting video. My journey towards vegan food was quite accidental actually. I've been vegetarian since 10 y.o. and a few years after my family started to implement Spring and Autumnal detox. The concept being that you don't eat any animal products at all and you eat only "clean" unprocessed food. It takes two to three weeks and I've been practicing it twice a year ever since. When veganism started to appear in my country I realized that during this detox period I actually eat 100% vegan. Throughout the years I came up with so many recipes and I loved those meals so much that I started to include them in my diet throughout the year as well. And before I knew it my food was 95% accidentally vegan. Due to this journey I have a big issue with highly processed vegan products aka fake meats and fake cheeses etc. Not only is it very bad for our body, but the way it is made isn't that good for the planet either. Plus they keep the flavor of those animal products induced into our brain. There's a regular vegan event here in Prague. It started as a wonderful display of meals from all over the world that are naturally plant based. But little by little it became a fake animal product parade :-( Also, I see many vegans consuming horrendous amount of white flour pastries. So I'd appreciate people on YT and social media to explain what a really healthy vegan life style looks like. That's it, end of my rent now. Sending love to all the people who decided to be kind to the animals, the planet and their own bodies 💚💚💚
I really wish WFPB/less processed vegan eating was more mainstream. Just kicking the very processed foods out of your diet has been shown to have a lot of health benefits. What are you referring to on terms of the negative environmental effects of processed vegan foods though? Not sure I've heard of those.
i tried a lot of vegan yogurt types and i was so disappointed with the taste until i tried coconut yogurt..!! unsweetened vanilla coconut yogurt mixed with peanut/almond butter is so refreshing and it makes a lovely dip for fruits :)
I dont eat the processed meats much but if I do I make the gardein meatballs with spaghetti and marinara or the ground crumbles. My husband still eats a little meat but when I make this he cant even tell the difference. It’s a treat sometimes!
The day IKEA discontinued the vegan caviar, a part of me died. I recently found another brand here in Czechia but it's not as affordable.. anyway, thanks a lot for another lovely video, your food videos are my favorite❤
Also a tofu lover and dont like meat-taste food🙌🏻A big love from Taiwan 🫶🏻can’t believe you’ve tried stinky tofu! But some of the stinky tofu in Taiwan is made with meat juice so have to be aware. Thanks for another lovely video❤
I love vegan version of Tartare cheese, Wege Siostry (Polish brand) cheese, VioLife chocolate spread that tastes like chocolate Philadelphia. I usually don't eat vegan meat substitudes but if I had to choose it would be probably garlic ham by NieMięsny (also Polish) ;)
I think most vegan meat substitutes that do the best are those that emulate 'chicken'. At Lidl you can also get vegan shoarma that is really good! It doesn't really taste like actual shoarma so you have to let that taste go if you do/did eat meat, but it's just GOOD. I buy it all the time now.
I’ve been vegan since 1988. There are so many great vegan options now! And if someone doesn’t like vegan meat or cheese that’s fine! Lots of traditional Asian, African, Middle Eastern, and Mediterranean dishes are vegan and center beans, rice, wheat, and veggies!
I'm surprised by how good Quorn's nuggets are, to me they taste as good (if not better) than McDonalds chicken. Sons of butchers are really good, them and IKEA are my favourites for meatballs.
Being vegan use to make eating healthily easy. There were not ultra processed food pretending to be healthy just because it's plant based. Now, though, manufacturersof processed food are releasing lots of new vegan products due to customer demand. Sadly though they are so bad for the body. It'll be harder to care for the plant in a world of people with diet related diseases such as cancer, diabetes, mental illlnes, joint pain, heart attacks and stroke. Wholefood plant based will always be best for the body. (E.g. nuts, seeds, beans, soya fermented products, vegetables, fruit, avocado, olives) But I suppose these new products make eating vegan more "familiar" and convenient
Sometimes I wonder about my sense of taste. Take caviar. Fish caviar is more oily and has a funky taste that algae caviar lacks. The consistency is different too. Many turn vegan when they are young. I (sadly) had a lifetime of eating animal products on my tongue before I went vegan. I find that it is much easier to copy aroma than consistency. Thats why I miss creme brulee and jello. I may have liked the aroma of meat, but always hated the consistency. But I‘m not pining, far from it! There are so many amazing things to eat. I love all the different pulses and what you can make with them. Ever since I own a tofu press I even like raw firm tofu sprinkled on salad.
To me the best vegan feta is by simply V. It works really well in salads and nobody can tell it’s vegan when I make spanakopita with it. Plus it contains much less fat than all the other feta alternatives. It’s a DACH product though
I miss european vegan yogurt so much! Where I live vegan yogurt is really expensive so i can't afford it, when i used to live in europe there wasn't much of a price diference between animal based yougurts and plant based so i bought the plant based ones. I loved them
The issue with a lot of vegan cheese is its ultra processed and usually processed coconut oils, flavours, emulsifiers and colours. I wish there were more healthy options
Exactly. Plus, the cost... Fancy cheeses are already expensive and I'm scared to imagine how much the vegan alternatives cost. My mom has been a lover of fine cheeses for decades - I ate them along with her when I was a teenager, but it was easy for me to give them up when I went vegan. The cost/availability/iffy ingredients make vegan cheeses a pretty dubious option, at least for now.
There are so many different kinds of vegan cheeses. If you don’t like coconut oil, there are others made of cashews, oat milk, soy milk, etc. And they are healthier than cow milk cheeses which are loaded with cholesterol. Vegan food has no cholesterol.
I think you will find that many of the fancy vegan cheeses are actual cheese. Often Cashews are the base which mimic the sweetness of cows mild quite well. They are then fermented just like a vegetarian (i.e. without the inside of a calfs stomach - rennet) cheese would be. Yes they are expensive because that is a long process. What is wrong with emulsifiers? Mammals make them all the time to produce milk for their young.
Were at A&W the other day and after the first bite my husband said, "this burger tastes funny"... After a couple more bites he couldn't eat it and realized it was "Beyond Meat" 😅
The Meati steaks are one of those "too real" items. The first time I put a piece of it in my mouth, I spit it out immediately, because I thought it was too real. I got over it and did finish the package, but I don't think I would repurchase it.
My absolute favourite vegan product has to be the tofu hot dog wieners by Taifun, sold in Waitrose. They are just brilliant and my omnivore partner prefers them to real wieners. What I love about these is that they are not trying to be meat but they’re their own thing..soo good with onions and mustard in a hot dog bun 😋
Hellmans mayo...best one. In Romania we don't have a good selection of vegan alternatives, there are some soy products that are ok...but cheese? Nothing so far....
Unfortunately developed a soy allergy...is really wish there where more vegan options that don’t contain soy. Where I live beyond meat is hard to come by.
I really don't like that here in Germany the vegan restaurants somehow start to just have 'vegan alternatives' on their menus. So plenty of meat substitutes which I absolutely hate (have not been eating meat for 26 years) and almost everything wih some sort of vegan cheese (which most I also don't like because they taste like this fake cheese you put on burgers). Why not just make something great with veggies, legumes etc?

If you‘re vegan and organic+ healthy, non artificial ingredients are importent to you, well its a hard thing. Or maybe at least to me. 🥲
I love hummus, pasta and chickpeas, polenta and stewed beans, guacamole, rice and lentils in broth... many Italian recipes have always been vegan 🌷
For the feta cheese, you can try the Greek white block from violife… honestly my favourite cheese in the world!
Hey Jenny

I like the Simply V feta too, it is the one I always buy here in Germany.
Vegan cheese fondue would be bombbbbb
Thanks to You Jenny I am transitioning towards veganism! Keep up vegan videos! 💚

Give me those doughnuts now Jenny!!!
Hey David
Have you tried Veggie Barbecue sausages from Taifun yet? This are sausages made of smoked tofu. Really delicious. Recommend recommend.
Hello! I just started to read your book - love it! But how about a vegan cook book? I would love to have your recipes in a book ;)
I did not know about all of these.options, thank you for sharing, I'm so intrigued and ready to try these options.
Hope you enjoy!

I am hearing from some WFPB docs that we shouldn't eat emulsifiers as they change the good gut bacteria to not so good.
Amy's Organic Black Bean Veggie Burger - My favorite burger, served with vegan mayo mixed with Crystal hot sauce (which is not really hot, so I call it Crystal pepper sauce). I enjoyed this video very much!!
Many blessings love light peace

Favourite vegan chocolate: Vego!! It tastes the same if not better than non vegan ones
Yes! And their Nutella-like with bits 🤤 I eat it with a spoon!
I love Vego!!
Please share some healthy cafe/restaurants in London?
So many are highly processed, sugary, fried or super high in calories and low in health benefits
Hi Jenny,
Here is my lazy day recipe:

There's some good feta in Australia made by Yay foods-they do some pies, sausage rolls, spinach & feta triangles and dips
Am a born Pakistani, raised in Saudi Arabia and studied in England….love Kala Namak (black salt). Always have at least three jars of it in our kitchen, in it’s original rock form. It is one amazing umami punch. Try it in sour drinks. Yum.

ooh thank you for the suggestion :)

I second this! It's AMAZING, tastes great both raw and melted.
What are sustainable almonds? I am intrigued! I love almonds but the amount of water the trees need is making me rethink them in my diet.
I really like the Violife feta! I think it doesn’t really taste exactly like dairy feta, but it’s super creamy and tasty. My favorite vegat cheese honestly. I put it in chili and pasta salad.

Last time I was in London I tried the Shamembert by Honestly Tasty and I was about to cry... :D :D Only in the UK unfortunately... (for now I hope!)
Interesting about the seaweed caviar. Funny enough, in Russia, vegetarian "zucchini caviar" has been around for a long time, but it's honestly nothing like caviar - it's basically a spiced zucchini or eggplant spread.
In Canada we have a coconut bacon sub that is amazing! :D

I love Lidl’s vegan feta. So it’s M&S’s feta in the tub! 😊
Sorry that this is rather a random question, but are your small tables from Crea?
I would love the recipeeeeesss
I dont eat the processed meats much but if I do I make the gardein meatballs with spaghetti and marinara or the ground crumbles. My husband still eats a little meat but when I make this he cant even tell the difference. It’s a treat sometimes!

For feta have you tried Nafsika’s Garden? I need to try it but someone recommended it to me

It's the mentality of people toward eating "healthy" that needs to change, and unfortunately that seems to be difficult for many people.

The perfect vegan feta: Follow Your Heart brand crumbles
The perfect goat cheese: Violife "Feta" block
Hopefully, these can be found over there!♡
I think that "The Other Cheese" feta is a really good one, don't know if you can find it in England.
I'll have to look for it :)
I can't do a lot of vegan foods like tofu or soy or nuts either. I work within my allergy parameters. The alternatives are interesting however.
Very informative video❤
Glad you liked it

I’m less keen on cheeses however I absolutely love Tofutti products and have done so for decades now. It’s superior to dairy products in my view
The Meati steaks are one of those "too real" items. The first time I put a piece of it in my mouth, I spit it out immediately, because I thought it was too real. I got over it and did finish the package, but I don't think I would repurchase it.
In the UK the meat substitutes have got so much better in recent years. Still not as good as lentils or chickpeas tho..
I love the M&S vegan feta.
I just want a vegan manchego now.
Iam not fully vegan but very interesting video!
Btw. Love avocado mayo🙏💫
Hellmans mayo...best one. In Romania we don't have a good selection of vegan alternatives, there are some soy products that are ok...but cheese? Nothing so far....

I'm in the US and vegan feta is by far the easiest one to find. I'd love to be able to get a vegan brie!
Have you found Taiwanese stinky tofu that is vegan? I used to love it but it is traditionally seasoned with fish (which is one reason it’s stinky).
Oh the vegan cheese looks so good
Please contact Julie Pratt.....she makes awesome vegan cheeses
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I really don't like that here in Germany the vegan restaurants somehow start to just have 'vegan alternatives' on their menus. I have never found great vegan mozzarella myself, but I have eaten really good mozzarellas on pizzas in restaurants
Jenny, once you come to Riga, I'll prepare some Latvian brand artisinal vegan cheeses (they do make mocarella as well!). 🫶🏻
One huge Problem I have with vegan alternatives from supermarcets etc. is, that these products are usually full of artificial flavers, they are highly processed, full of ingerdients that are not so very eco friendly and you barely ever get a organic version of it- I‘m talking about products such as cheese, vegan meat alternatives and so on. Things you cant make on your own, or at least would take a huge amount of time and effort to make them. Thats kind of sad. If you‘re vegan and organic+ healthy, non artificial ingredients are importent to you, well its a hard thing. Or maybe at least to me. 🥲
