I remember the old videos and watched this as enthusiastically as I did them. The only tapping we did was way back when Christ was a corporal and the difference was in the materials used and the collection process. I’m picking up on your way of doing things. Great video. My best to Rachael, Nate, & Zack
Hi Heath and Rachel, enjoyed the video and will be following along to see how you make out. Have seen some boards milled out if tapped maple before and they makes a unique looking board. Talk later. Terry
Health and Rachel, that was fun to watch. I loved the Christmas Vacation reference, Clark. ;) I will be interested to see how the sap collection process turns out and how much syrup you get out of it.
Thanks Steve! I don’t realize how often I quote movies until I’m being filmed😂 We still have a few jars left from last year so hopefully we’ll get a similar amount this year!
@@rachelpostma4505 You are welcome, Rachel! You guys make it so much fun to watch. I always end up giggling. Your, "Let me live my life!" is a classic! Take care 👍
Thanks Jeremiah! It’s laying in a heap in our yard. I’m sure Heath will say “neatly stacked” lol I think I’ll broadcast live when/if my kitchen ever gets started😂
Hello HWM & HWW, this is what you were doing when I found your channel, then later on I was lucky enough to meet You at Bunyan, this year I hope to be lucky enough to place and order for syrup, sugar and ummm... Pancakes!!!
You tell them Rachel them U tube , hang your bucket on the south side . I know nothing about maple syrup 😊. One off my hunter from Ontario is big into maple syrup . Rachel it’s wet nose Wednesday today . 😊
Thanks Leonard! I have heard that as well, I like to try stuff out though so this year I mixed it up a little to see how big of a difference it makes. I also double tapped a few with one bucket on the south side and one on east or west of the same tree.
hi there .when the sap flows HWM goes . about how many taps do you put in . and about haw many gallons do you hope to get , . now onto firewood i think it looses its sap (water)more this time of the year as well . might be changing solid (ice) to liquid (water ) takes BTUs to do that , or expanchen (hot) contraction (cold ) makes a pumping action like a heart and pumps the sap out , . good show now i have to go eat some pancakes . john
Thanks John, this year we put out 125 taps. I split our finished syrup with my buddy who cooks it down for us 50/50. Last year we had 50 taps for most of the season and added 25 for the final 1/3rd of the year in 2022. If I remember correctly I think we ended up with about 5 gallons of syrup ourselves.
Morning Heath and Mrs Rachel , I really enjoyed the video . I got to learn something new today . I knew that you had to tap the tree but I’ve never seen it done before . Do y’all sell your syrup ? Thanks for sharing !! 🇺🇸🪵
Del, we don’t sell ours but my buddy who cooks our sap down to syrup does. Here’s a link to his Facebook page facebook.com/profile.php?id=100079457741984&mibextid=LQQJ4d
Probably because of the bacteria. I made beer once made mistake of starting the siphon with my mouth and even though everything was sanitized, I ended up with a batch of vinegar 😮
Darrin, it’s not that bad and you can do smaller amounts. A great time to hang out, relax, and crack a few cold ones. It’s really easy for me as my buddy cooks it down but eventually we’ll do our own.

Rachel you are a super trooper, luv women in the outdoors.
Thank you, Rachel is one of a kind!
Thanks for the video Heath and Rachel. I've never seen the process before and nice job on the closeup shots. obie
Thank Obie! I try and show the close up details for that reason! Just in case someone has never seen it before.

Nice work 👍
Thanks!
Looks like a great day out setting up to collect sap. Hope it’s a great season.
Thanks Robert. It was a bit cold but still enjoyable being out in the woods once you get going.
Thanks Robert! It sure is fun to eat the syrup after all of this!
Hi Heath and Rachel, enjoyed the video and will be following along to see how you make out. Have seen some boards milled out if tapped maple before and they makes a unique looking board. Talk later. Terry
Thanks Terry, I have seen them too and they are neat. We will document our process throughout the season.
Thanks Terry! Hoping it’s as successful as last year!
hi i forgot , have Rachel swirl her finger in the sap ,it will sweeten it up a bit more . john
Oh John, that’s cute! 😊
Brilliant! Lol.
I have a lot of experience with maple syrup. Hope you get a good sap season!
Thanks 🤞🏻. We missed the first early run. Hopefully it opens up here soon!
Thanks! We have loved eating the syrup all year.
Hope y’all get plenty of sap from all the work your doing I seen my neighbor tapped his about a month ago have a great day
Thanks David. There was a short run here earlier in the season then it slowed down again. 🤞🏻
Thank you! As long as we get as much as last year we’ll be eating good all year 😊
Damn jive turkeys !!!
I like the turkeys but not when thy drain my sap bags!
Haha, who knew they could reach the bags?!

Thanks! I don’t know many movie references lol so that’ll be a rare occurrence. Hopefully we get a good run this spring!

Big Foot out there, he's gonna get your syrup.
Lol. I hope not unless I catch it on camera!
Very nice. I need to to some maple bacon. The process looks like lot work real maple is the best.
It is a lot of work but tastes great and is very rewarding!
Great job team! Whatever happened to the sugar shack building? Have to get the kitchen done first??

Jeremiah it is actually early stacked on a pallet and covered with a tarp lol. The kitchen comes first!

Ben, thanks for watching hopefully we’ve improved our content over the year! We’ll be back at Bunyan again this year!
You’ll have to remind us closer to Bunyan and I’m sure we can bring some syrup!

Love some Maple syrup!! Unfortunately we have to purchase it down in SE GEORGIA, we produce Great cane syrup!! Stay Hydrated and Have a Safe Day
Thanks David! It is delicious especially on some vanilla ice cream!

Sound like a wood pecker in back ground , 300 Honda last a life time good on gas. 😊
I’ve owned a few of these 300’s over the years. Love them!
Probably because of the bacteria. I made beer once made mistake of starting the siphon with my mouth and even though everything was sanitized, I ended up with a batch of vinegar 😮
Ahh, that could be why. Interesting and probably not a great surprise! 😂
I think that’s the theory. Hopefully we don’t make vinegar syrup.
Assume video kids team work Heath and your better half ❤👍
Thanks Todd!
Thanks Todd!
I have often wanted to try doing my own maple syrup but the evaporation process scares me away.
Darrin, it’s not that bad and you can do smaller amounts. A great time to hang out, relax, and crack a few cold ones. It’s really easy for me as my buddy cooks it down but eventually we’ll do our own.
Same Darrin😂 that’s why I just help with tapping and collecting.

Lol I have no clue how to twerk. But I think that was quite evident in the video.
It’s so cringy I had to keep it in there! 😂
I'm a sawfiler it makes my skin crawl to see people still using metal taps. They make good wood taps now I believe.
@TracySkille I don’t believe I’ve seen wooden taps before.
What is the youngest maple tree that you can tap?
You want them to be at least 10” diameter 4’ above the ground to tap them.
PLEASE check the email, we would like to do business with you(security cameras)
Thanks.

Not sure what you are trying to say? Hoping to get out soon and tap for this season, it’s been a strange winter so far.
