The monkey kids sometimes enjoy playing in and around the “onsen” even in the warm seasons.
The monkeys in Jigokudani take a bath to stay warmer in the winter cold.
As the monkeys don’t like getting wet by nature, only a part of the troop soak in the spa. They are mostly females and the children.
Not all the monkeys are “hot spring lover.”
The mom monkey tend to take her baby when she goes into the hot water.
The young ones don’t like long baths, and they will start to play in the pool after getting tired of sitting still. It seems same as human society, doesn’t it?
Splashes annoy the adults, and then kids are scolded.
The scene of the monkeys having a good long soak in the bath quietly will be seen often in winter.
In the period when they don’t need to get warmth, the young ones can play as much as they want because there is no adults who would say “Stop doing that!” in the hot spring.
They will get heated up gradually, and it will seem that they are having a lot of fun. Then others join one after another and the pool becomes very lively.
