Thank you! My parents used to snark at me all the time for going to the bathroom soon after arriving at a new restaraunt, even after I explained this to them (and after three instances of me avoiding getting sick from said restaurant's food simply by not ordering anything). A bathroom is a good reflection of how clean the kitchen is.

As a kid myself, I think the reason kids doing homework in a restaurant means the restaurant is good especially when they have no parent with them is because of their attention spans. Children have always had low attention spans and now with TikTok and RUclips shorts (Which I do admit I watch way too much of) making them worse. Because of this, when they are waiting for their food, they are gonna want to do something and if they just got out of school a while ago they might still have their homework on them so they might want to do that while they wait. Also, I'm pretty sure kids prefer predictable stuff so if they like a place they will more than likely go there again instead of trying a new place unless they are forced.

The Red Flag about no utensils is interesting. I live in NYC and they passed a law a little while ago that you have to ask for utensils from an eating place, it is to cut down on waste. Even places where you would expect you might need utensils like say Chinese you have to ask or they won’t include it, not because they are being rude or a red flag but so they stay within that new law. Even with online ordering you have to check a box to get utensils and napkins.

In my country a law recently passed to make restaurants charge extra for disposable cutlery and such and all the online menus just automatically give it, and charge it. With no option to turn it off.

I was thrilled to see the "Kitchen Nightmares" clips over your commentary on the menus. I've learned from that show that restaurants must cook fresh and never use microwaves. If you know you can make better than what you order, either the cooks or the owner are doing something wrong. I know that staff would argue, too, but I've never heard people fighting like on the show. I hope I remember to check out the environment around and inside a restaurant next time I check out one I haven't been in.

What bothers me is when a great franchise goes downhill. For example, Taco Cabana used to be a fast food brand I would seek out, but they somehow went from having some of the best Mexican food to being ridiculously generic and low quality.

    • @dannylopez5976
      @dannylopez5976 3 месяца назад

Moving from mid to South Texas Taco Cabana basically disappeared while other franchises sprung up like Jason's/Schiloscies.
Never saw a big difference in Taco Cabana between our more local (FAST FOOT) Mexican restaurants like El Pato or La Mexicana, in addition to the many local places.
Was curious if they're still doing well. (Keep in mind Taco Bell has practically taken over all the TB/Lomg John Silver locations).😊

The third point is interesting to me right now, because I just went to Seattle over the course of last week, and I actually went to a restaurant that _is_ a tourist attraction in itself. I don't remember what it's called, but it's a seafood restaurant near the coast that has a display where they have the fish put around mounds of ice cubes, and the workers there throw the fish between each other for certain steps of the process; it's been shown on TikTok a lot, I've heard, and when I went there, there was a ton of people filming it too; someone even had an actual large and pretty sophisticated camera filming it, and not just their phone! I'm sure the food is good or at least alright there, and no hate towards the people working there since it's a very unique presentation I enjoyed seeing; the point just reminded me of how I ended up not going there, since I was kind of put off by the fact that they had a crate of crayfish with their limbs still twitching...

1:37 Not a restaurant, but a ballpark, and we sell food there, so it counts. Our restrooms are normally very clean and orderly, so if, for some reason, the toilet paper is low or the soap dispenser is empty, its probably just the traffic from yesterdays game wiping it out completely, and an usher who cleans the bathroom hasnt looked at the situation yet. As for me, I've become somewhat of an expert in cleaning the condiment carts!

My high school culinary teacher taught us that one red flag to a bad restaurant is the quality of its parking lot. Same reason as the bathroom quality, their parking lot is apart of their property so if they don't take care of it, there's a chance they don't take care of the inside either

I will say that #6 isn't always true. I work at a restaurant myself, and there isn't one moment where my bosses aren't looking out for all of us. However, most of them complain and regardless, blame them, and become ungrateful for it. It's just unfortunate sometimes. I will say that yes it can be a red flag, but I will say that it isn't always because the restaurant is bad. It CAN mean that, but not always.

The thing about "the food is probably good if there is a kid doing homework at one of the tables" kind of has a basis in that a kid there implies that the restaurant is owned and operated by a family. 'Mom and pop' shops like that tend to not resort to the kind of 'quick and dirty' practices that big chains do, and their customer load is probably much lower, which could mean the food is better.

One of my main choices about what I want to do when I grow up is starting/opening fast food chains and restaurants, along with marine biology. This are tips I will definitely take into consideration for my potential future establishments, here are some of my ideas I have:
Louisiana Cookout: I have lived in Louisiana my whole life and I love all the food, which is why part of me is disappointed that most people don’t get to try our states unique cuisine, so this would serve as a way to give other people a chance to try it.
Surfside Shellfish: A large part of Louisiana cuisine and it’s culinary identity is the seafood, so I thought about opening a fast food restaurant selling freshly harvested seafood, namely crustaceans like crabs and crawfish, giving a heather option while still tasting great.
Creel’s Greens: Takes inspiration from the farm that has been in my family for more than 100 years and focuses more on healthier eating with a large variety of vegetarian dishes and using meat that hasn’t been heavily processed like it is at other places while still tasting good.
Connor’s Eatery: I’ve had a adult friend who has gone to prison quite a few times, and let’s just say his experience wasn’t too enjoyable, so combing that as well as trying to think of a fast food gimmick that nobody has done before has led me to the idea of a prison themed restaurant that leans into it to try to give people a good time and will donate 20% of its monthly profits to poorly managed and low funded prisons around the country.
Keep up the great work Strider!

Strider, boy do I got a story for you. Last year, my parents and I went to an Outback Steakhouse (a restaurant you talked about in your Top 10 Most Hated Sit-down Restaurants) near my house and IT WAS HORRIBLE! First off, as you had talked about it in the video, the restaurant was almost empty. Many tables were vacant. Not only that, the waiter that was serving us was beyond abysmal! He was really rude and it seemed like he was on drugs and took AGES to serve us. My parents and I had actually spent time in the car discussing what we thought he was on. The food was gross too. It looked like they had cooked the mustard when they gave me the burger I ordered. Also, another note, when I entered the bathroom, the men's room was SO HOT. This may be an exaggeration but it was like a tanning bed in there! It was absolutely horrible! Luckily, the restaurant ceased operations this year, because it apparently was a common thing for people to have a bad experience there.

*Also, I've noticed, that, the staff sometimes forget to empty the bins out in these restaurants, resulting in overfilled bins, which, I have seen. And It also resulted in people having to put their leftovers on top of the bin.*
*Also, yeah, sometimes, if I go into a fast food chain, like McDonald's, and the table is dirty, I'll just, clean it myself. Cause, clearly, someone didn't seem to care.*

However, I rarely have these issues with the independent restaurants I go to, which is a good sign. I hope all of these restaurants clean up their act and become better one day. On a different note, I have become hyperfixated on the claymation works of Will Vinton, and I would love to see you do a Top Ten Best list on Will Vinton's work. I used to work at KFC and I felt as though I was the only cashier who cared enough to actually clean the restrooms, empty the trash, and restock the lobby. Drive through always got orders wrong and they favored certain employees over others. The manager then acted shocked that I quit. I was planning on giving 2 weeks then quitting but I was given 0 hours when everyone else was getting at least 10. I had been job hunting because I was getting scheduled for 8 hours a week and working 2. I believe the manager refused to give me hours for the week due to the fact that I used him as a reference while job searching.

I honestly have seen a lot of these as a worker in different fast food places, specifically Number 1 since I'm one of, if not the only regular left. I've been at my current place longer than all of the managers.

I feel like a red flag, to me, is when they nickel and dime (meaning they charge you for everything, from sides to even toppings) you for everything AND make it expensive. There was this new chicken restaurant that my mom and I went to, and the bill came to either nearly or over $100 (we haven't been there in a long time, so I forgot how much it cost exactly), and all we ordered was a couple of sandwiches and a kids meal

Ten thousand long menus are a key part of most of Gorden Ramsey's restaurant videos.
Man I am in a position where I'm supposed to great customers that come inside, I have ADHD and Autism so it is so hard for me to do but I try to be very nice. It's not that I'm deliberately trying to ignore the customers but because I have selective mutism and social anxiety I always panic deep down inside but I am super nice to the customers.

Honestly With McDonald's growth over all, I remember hearing that the First CEO of McDonald's make it a point to focus more on the stores location then what it actually was making as even if the food is basic, if it's in a convenient spot like next to a highway or tourist trap or whatever, you'll still make profit more often then not.

I agree about the tourist trap one. There was once a buffet place called Captain Kidds. The food was abysmal. The only reason it lasted as long as it did was because it was across the street from Disneyland. The pandemic finally killed it.

My local Applebee's is the same way about not being crowded even during mealtime. Thankfully, I usually get the same servers in the bar area, who know me well enough and my heavy iced tea drinking, and I know what to avoid (never order steak unless there is an ulterior reason and even then, get sweet asian sauce to help it).

I went to a restaurant once out of town and ordered a salad. Me and my grandpa sat down and saw so many dirty windowsills next to us. Even though the salad tasted ok, i couldn't stop thinking about those dead flies so I didn't finish it. he finished his burger though.
I went to a restaurant that was empty but, didn't have that issue. The waitress just said that this wasn't their busy time of day. My only complaint was that the strawberry pie i ordered didn't have the bottom. I joked around and said "i guess I'm on a diet."

At least for me and some of the people I worked with, we couldn't afford or have time to go anywhere else to eat. At least at my Subway, a 6 inch meal for employees was only $0.99 and could get a rush at any time. Just 0 to 12 in line in under a minuet so our quick hot meal turns into cold sub and more annoyed and hungry than before.

I work in a kitchen. Sometimes the cooks fight. But it doesn't mean the food will be bad. Working in a fast paced, high volume kitchen is extremely stressful. Couple that with the fact that its ridiculously hot, tempers can flare.

This one time me and my mom were in Las Vegas and we went to this restaurant/nightclub called the voodoo lounge and it was pretty expensive. I think it was a four or five star restaurant in the most expensive thing we saw that we could somewhat afford, were frogs legs, and when the waiter asked us what we were going to start off with my mom just said, I’m we’re just gonna have some appetizers and this waiter gave my mother a really dirty look and when our food arrives, I hate to sound like Gordon Ramsay, but the frog legs taste like dishwater. It was horrible. I even told my mother and I have never said this or have ever done this, but I told her I said mom don’t leave him a tip, but she did anyway.

Also, I personally don't go to places like McDonalds for a lot of the reasons stated in this video, pretty much every time I've been there the floors have been sticky and the bathrooms have been dirty and there's always some weird funky smell. I still don't know what that smell is, I just call it the "McDonald's Kitchen Smell"

my dad works at a very popular tourist destination and bc of that we visit there occasionally, usually checking on him too. heck i even worked there a few summers ago and the food was...mediocre to say the least. even when we go to a fancier place to eat the service tends to be not the best, i went to a local food place where it was served in an interesting way but they took forever to get our orders and my food came out cold. ever since that i hesitate to go to that destination and just walk up to somewhere close to it but it's more popular among locals. it tends to have very good food compared to that place
