    The prehistoric archaeological sites are fascinating. Before Rome was even inhabited. I luv the vibe of this island the beaches are so natural clean n fresh forests are untouched no chemicals for agriculture at all!! And just so you know both Ikaria Greece. And. Sardinia produce their own natural honey from the PINE forest. This honey may be linked with living to 100 💜🌷💜🌷💜so happy you are sharing your visit with all of us.

      Natural and clean most of the time, except for the irreversibly damaged landscape caused by the old copper and silver mines along the Iglesias coast, as well as the NATO military testing polygons in Quirra and Teulada which are known to have caused cancers and deformations amongst the local population and their livestock. Fix that up and it would be amongst the most beautiful places in Europe, no question.

    When you rent a car in Europe, do you pay attention to the company or just rent from the cheapest available? We've rented a couple of times but were always told to stick to more known companies than the small companies to avoid issues. Thanks for inspiring others to travel!

    • @GabrielTravelerVideos
      @GabrielTravelerVideos  9 месяцев назад +17

      It's pretty random. I showed up at the airport, went to the rental car area and it was an absolute madhouse of tons of people crowding a large hall lined with around a couple dozen rental car companies. Where to begin? I went to one desk that didn't have a line of people in front of it, but they didn't have any cars. Then I went to another desk that didn't have any people waiting and they had a car available at a good price, so I took it. Maybe someone else can recommend a more foolproof rental car strategy. I prefer not to book them online because of possible hidden fees such as insurance. So I just call offices I find on google or go there in person and it always works out one way or another.

    The flag of Sardegna that Gabe briefly showed in the video is very interesting. I did some research and the island has a very multi-ethnic and at times turbulent history being in a location that was crossroads on the sea. The symbolism on the flag is known as the "Four Moors" and the red The Cross of Alcoraz. The flag represents Sardinia and it's people and has varied throughout history. In 1281 AD the moors did not have bandana and had beards, on the 1370 AD flag the moors head is depicted with no bandana and no beards, in 1470 AD the Kingdom of Sardinia flag depicted the black moors with a red bandana and a gold earring in one ear with no beards, in 1642 they were depicted with white bandana and a crown at the crest, and finally the current 1999 flag they are with a white bandana.
    Sardegna was ruled by many different groups and was sometimes carved up. At certain times Sardegna was carved up into 4 quarters and was part of 4 different Kingdoms at the same time. The Four Moors represent the 4 Black Princes under the Crown of Aragon. These were apparently the Princes of Zaragoza, Valencia, Murcia and the Balearics. The "black" or "negro" moors ruled Spain from the 8th to the 15th centuries establishing universities, libraries, and schools. They are credited with building the Alhambra, the Mezquita and other grand and ornate palaces. The Coat of Arms of Aragon also features the Four Moors which possibly shows a connection between these nobility. The moors ruled areas of Sardegna and Corsica as well which was also part of the Kingdom of Genoa at one period. The Kingdom of Sardinia was also a separate kingdom at one period before the uniting of Italy.
    The nearby island of Corsica has a flag that shows one single black moor head. Corsica and Sardinia were once part of the Kingdom of Genoa. Numerous Coat of Arms around Europe show a moor head as a noble figure from Coat of Arms of Mandach in Switzerland -- Abfaltersbach in Tyrol, Austria -- to Sandau, Thuringia, and Bad Sulza in Germany -- to Morancé in the Rhone region of France. It seems these depictions on Coat of Arms were very common. Maybe this is a signal that the black or negro moors had a larger rulership role in the making of early-Europe. A Coat of Arms is the distinctive heraldic bearings or shield -- the principal part of a system of hereditary symbols dating back to early medieval Europe, used primarily to establish identity in battle. It is not common in heraldry to depict an enemy on your Coat of Arms. The Coat of Arms was used to show your identity.
    There is also a similar depiction called the Moors of Yorkshire and a 3rd century AD inscription of Titus Flavius Varus who was a Moor ruler in Wales under the Roman Empire. He was also a Roman Senator and the prefect of Rome around 250 AD. It seems that numerous Roman generals and Senators were black or negro moors. This history of black moors and nobility seems very much disregarded in today's historical discussions but the Sardinian flag sent me into a wave of research. Sicily, a nearby island was also ruled by Black Moors at one time.
    I've cited some sources cited below or in the first comment if this post is too long.

    I was visiting family for the past two weeks in northern Sardegna.I recommend visiting the beach Cala Spinosa. It is one of the most beautiful beaches of Sardegna. There's an easily missed, unmarked entrance down to the beach right next to the entrance of a small cliffside cafe where you park: Otherworldly rocks, crystal aquablue water, and a beautiful lighthouse all in one! Neptune's Grotto comes in as a close 2nd place, right off the coast of the beautiful town of Alghero!

There is some great historic cities like bath and York but on the whole a lot of British cities are quite industrial. There’s always plenty to see in London itself in all directions like hampstead, Greenwich and Notting Hill but you’ve got to do your research beforehand or you can easily waste your time.

    Su Nuraxi a good place to start, only another 7,999 nuraghe to go! Sardinia is a megalithic island, with tombs, dolmen, alters, wells, standing stones all built by its very advanced megalithic civilisation. Stone giants were uncovered by archaeologists and are on now on display at the Cagliari museum. More murals at Orgoloso, pagan ceremonies and processions abound so lots to see and do.

    Funny you think of those places as southern latitudes, but the average is 40 degrees, about the same as Indianapolis and New York City. Milwaukee is a bit further south than Nice France yet the latter enjoys that Mediterranean climate and Milwaukee gets cold as hell for a few weeks.

      Yes, all of Europe and even North Africa is pretty far north. It's generally warmer than North America due to the Gulf Stream. When in the video did I refer to it is as being in the south?

    Another ancient ruins, this time from Sardinia, nice. ;) I call them as your second home, along with caves. :) I am looking forward to your next videos, also from the UK where you are heading next. Are you going more to the north (maybe even Scottish Highlands this time with Highland cows/coos?) or south to the coastal regions with some cliffs? I have been to UK (England) only once, but I can surely recommend Oxford, Bath and Stratford-upon-Avon from my visit.
