In the mid 80's no one had heard of coeliac disease or other gluten/food related disorders. You ate what you were given and got on with life. I do sometimes wonder if the over sterilisation of our homes has contributed to the rise in these disorders over the years. As a kid in the 80's we mucked about in the dirt and surf, always had pets around and generally ate whatever was put in front of us. As a chef in the 90's I witnessed the rise in food allergies across the board. Now the word "intolerance" is widely used. Changing times indeed.

You wouldn’t be the first to propose such a thing. I really was an outside kid when I was young too. We spent all day out there ! Yet it certainly a plausible cause and/or contributing factor in this terrible disease.

Mathew you are so lucky that your mother was aware as to what was happening and had the sense of mind to demand further investigation to the bleeding. Props to Mom👍.

You are so right! Having a mom like her has saved me many times! The fact that she didn’t leave my side was a big factor in the outcome of that day!
