The residue of the special Oratex-Masking Tape is very easy to clean of with the Oratex-Cleaner that is commonly used with Oratex planes anyway. The Oratex cleaner is a harmless watery detergent that comes as a (non- HazMat ! ) concentrate! It get mixed with water and so the shipping is cheap. From my experience only the Oratex masking tape will guarantee absolutely no bleed-trough whatsoever, and it comes in all kinds of width, not just that narrow.
    Best Regards,
    Lars

+BetterAircraftFabric Thanks Lars!! I tried alchohol but it was removing a little of the paint so I stopped, it didn't occur to me that an adhesive could be removed with a detergent. I will try some Windex to see if that helps. The Oratex tape was absolutely great and made a very neat clean line.

You painted the Oratex white fabric?

Yes I did, using exterior grade latex paint. They sent me white, not what I wanted, so I adapted. Worked great!

Hard to tell what problem you're running into. If you don't thin enough the paint will be thick and not "relax" to smooth out. I also painted on a relatively horizontal surface, if you're painting on a vertical surface with a roller or brush the paint will streak and drip. Lots of variables. I had to experiment a bit to get it just right.
