Mary's Blood, definitely my favorite female band and Saki my favorite female guitarist. It's a shame they are about to disappear due to Nemophila's success. As usual they are better live, this is Bloody Birthday: ruclips.net/video/KODPK5CSgU0/видео.html And as Band-Maid they have four amazing DVDs Live at Blaze 2016 Live at Liquid Room 2017 Live at Intercity Hall 2018 & Live at Blitz 2018 They use to have many great live videos in RUclips from all this gigs, but the copyright owners have deleted almost each one.😭
Criminally underrated outside Japan, their RUclips presence or lack there of hurts. Mary’s Blood and Nemophila are my favorite J-Metal bands, guess I am just a Saki simp. More Mary’s Blood any song really, my go to for new listeners is I’m Dead live but last I knew it was down on RUclips. If you want to see a punk ire side RIP is good or just shredding craziness Marionette is great.
Marionette is the best song. Saki has the most beautiful amp, and in her spare time she comprises half of the twin lead guitar attack of Nemophila, the best new band to emerge from Japan.
Man, I've been out of the loop too long. I totally missed that you did one of my requests. Thank you so much. Mary's Blood is one of my top favorite bands. your analysis is enjoyable, as always. Thanks again.
For live they bring in Yashiro as a support guitarist, she does not want to be a full time member because she teaches music at Tokyo University and has her own projects as well as supporting multiple other bands. I really enjoy Eye's voice she does not have the growls like other singers but has a great clean voice and can add an amazing amount of grit and swagger when called for.
@@overtheedge4711 I am not really one for growls anyway they work at the right time but they seem to be getting over done now. It is annoying that there have been a number of Mary’s Blood videos taken down recently I really liked the live On The Rocks, Eye really showed what she could do with gravely vocals and rock swagger in a slow sleazy 70s style. The whole album seems to have been taken off streaming services. The other one I used to watch regularly was when Miki Sun-Go Igarashi of Show-Ya joined them on stage.
@@PurpleDracos Yeah they removed a bunch I really liked too. On the Rocks was one, but Death Queens March, I'm Dead & Coronation Day live at Blitz 2018 were great too. I did find the whole Blitz show on BiliBili awhile ago. but I can't find On the Rocks from Noan Yoan anywhere.
Live, there's a support guitarplayer, Yashiro (she's extremely good too) because in studio, Saki (by now you know who she is I think) record the rythm and lead parts. Not my favorite track of them but a good one though.
"Where do all these incredible bands come from?" Most of them comes from a band called DESTROSE ;) (Lovebites, Mary's Blood, Fate Gear, Disqualia, Nemophila...and even loose connections to bands like Aldious and Cyntia)
Great double! Mary’s Blood were the first successful band to spin out of the legendary Destrose. (Later spinouts include Disqualia, Mardelas, Fate Gear and Lovebites.) Mary’s Blood had some early personnel changes but settled into a stable lineup consisting of Eye (vocals), Saki (guitar), Rio (bass) and Mari (drums). Saki is (no surprise) one of the top shredders, male or female, in the world, and Rio and Mari are one of the best, and heaviest, back lines playing today. Saki also has several other projects, including her own solo work, which veers more in the progressive/fusion direction. She has also been involved as a founder of Nemophila, one of the newest Japanese metal bands that is attracting a lot of notice. When they tour, they are joined by Yashiro on second lead guitar (that’s why you see five women on stage in live performances). Yashiro is an instructor at Tokyo College of Music and has declined a lot of offers to join a band full time. She has taught several of the young, up and coming female guitarists. Here is their best-known MV, “Marionette”: ruclips.net/video/MLM2unV0kwU/видео.html I’ve seen them live and they are mind-blowing. Here is some live footage: ruclips.net/video/q4xkNEnwIAA/видео.html
I actually preferred the live version to the MV. Saki is a demon on that guitar. They're all excellent musicians, that's hardly surprising these days, with them being Japanese. :)
Mary’s Blood is a great band to dive into, lots of great songs and there was a lineup before Saki that is also great, Yes Saki is who people rave about but she is in an awesome band here as she is in Nemophila, Mari snd Rio are under appreciated, and EYE is one of my favorite vocalists ever…
Good reaction.. FYI. The thumbnail pic you have up is their original line up from 2012 right after one of the members just left. They were originally a 5 member group. Then the 2 guitarist and bassist left in 2012. Saki (gt) and Rio (bass) then joined.
Hi Wave! I'm glad you checked out this video. I'm also glad you had a conversation with Brandon (Old Mr B). Band Maid's a good band, but you really need to check out others such as Nemophila, Unlucky Morphus, and TRiDENT, among others. I know you once covered Gacharic Spin, but they have an amazingly diverse repertoire. You really need to check out more of their stuff. Being a drummer, you really need to check out more of Tamu Murata. She's kind of like the Russ Kunkle of Japan. I know you reviewed one her duets with Senri Kawaguchi. She's also the drummer for Nemophila, which Saki is one of the guitarists. The back-up guitarist, Yashiro, also plays monthly with Tamu, and Daisuke Kurosawa. All these Japanese musicians know and play with each other, especially the women. This year, Tamu subbed for Yuri, Gacharic Spin's drummer, while she was having her baby. Last year, Miki Tsunoda, Mari, and others subbed for Tamu, when she was having her daughter. Wave, I challenge you to expand your horizons! At the very least, check out Nemophila. Best Wishes! Russ
The studio version was released on the Bloody Palace album 2015. The live song was from "Live at Blaze ~ Invasion of Queen Tour 2015-2016 Final" It was the closing song.
This is why Saki is considered one of the best female guitarists in Japan. She usually rates 1 or 2 besides Kanami on most people's lists. It usually depends on if a person is a metal head or into more classic hard rock on which spot they will take.
SAKI is what you would call a total badass she's also in Nemophila awesome band, and Mari in drums is just a beast, they have a cover from an anime opening called Pegasus Fantasy with the original singer who is also Eye's vocal coach you should check it out.

Best Hard Rock / Metal Band on the planet, but Nemophila are catching up fast ( Saki in both bands, what more can I say). My personal opinion Eye is the best Rock vocalist around ( that's me & her in my profile photo ) yeah of course I'm biased. Personal opinion Saki is probably in the top 5 guitarists in Japan ( men included ). And the rhythm section of Rio & Mari is superb. For a Rock ballad, hit up "Infinite Love" live (Saki makes the guitar cry) or was it me crying haha. Or For a Punk style track, Rio bassist wrote "High-5" Also " On the Rocks" live at Naon no Yaon is epic. Like Nemophila, Mary's Blood arnt set in 1 genre ( which is very boring) they flirt around in Rock, Metal, & Punk. Thanks for finally finding Mary's Blood.
They really sound very J-Pop.... maybe because they are! Still does not take anything away from their skill level.... this country really produces TONNES of talent, so many of them of the female kind! How is this even the case?!
Saki seems to be constitutionally incapable of not shredding. It's not just quality, but also quantity. Mary's Blood, Nemophila, Amahiru, plus solo stuff. She was also in Destrose for a while (as was about half of the Japanese female metal scene, as far as I can tell). There's a lot to check out if you like what she does.
One of the many bands that came from Destrose, along with Lovebites, Mardelas, Disquallia, Fate Gear, all in all there are 18 bands that had members come from Destrose rateyourmusic.com/list/GrapeOfWrath/the-destrose-family-tree/ and you can add Nemophila by default to that list, so 19 in total. The 2nd guitarist is an employee, she was offered the chance to be a full member of the band, but she wanted to have a job that paid a wage. @@COTTERO only 4 ? I have all 9 😂🤣
Wave, Mary’s Blood guitarist Saki is also one of the guitarists in Nemophila.
This is Saki's primary band... She is also in Nemophila.
Both are her primary band. She doesn't make a distinction between the 2 for how important they are to her.
Maybe a better way to word it should have been her original/other band (after Destrose.) At any rate, they are both great!
@@cs7jay41 She does have 2 side projects as well though. The one in Europe and her solo stuff. She likes to keep really busy. 🤣

Should check out their newest, "World End." Saki's riffing and soloing in that one is epic.
Marionette , great song. Saki is also guitarist in Nemophila. Yashiro is guitarist in live shows. She's great as well.
Saki shredding queen. she is also part of Nemophila by the way.
Marionette is the best song.

I'm still amazed that Saki can thrash her head around like that for over a decade and not end up in the ICU.

Musically awesome, but personally I find the vocal a bit lightweight, may be the mix.
