Doesn't it feel like if Carole were your neighbor, you'd stop in and she'd feed you soup and wrap you in a blanket she knitted? Gives the warm Earth Mother vibe. I don't know any woman who hasn't related to this singer and her words.

James Taylor and Carly Simon doing Mockingbird live at the No Nukes Concert in 1979. I wasn't crazy about the record, but this live version is an absolute joy to behold. They were married at the time and still very much in love which is why maybe Carly completely got rid of her stage fright problem and just bursts on the stage barefoot in a sexy tight jump suit to join JT. The harmonies are amazing as they switch the leads and the harmonies and just to see Carly and JT smiling and dancing, but never missing a beat of the intricate harmonies they performed is such a treat. You will love it, right up your alley!!!

A short tale of two big hit songs. Carole and James have been good friends for over 50 years. In 1970 James did his first big hit, "Fire and Rain" which says "I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend". In 1971 Carole wrote a song in reply, "All you have to do is call, and I'll be there, you've got a friend." I've done her song in church to a slide show of Jesus paintings, it fit very nicely.
Carole King has written over 400 songs, performed by over 1,000 artists. It's quite likely you have heard a Carole King song without knowing it's hers. For example, Aretha Franklin's hit "You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman" is a Carole King song.
Of course this admirable record (pun intended) is shattered by Dolly Parton who has written some 5 thousand songs of which she has recorded over 900.

Lesser-known fact: Carole was 18 in 1959 when she co-wrote the first No. 1 hit in the U.S. by an all-female African-American group, The Shirelles released in 1960. This was the song! it wasn't until 11 years later that Carole released her own performance of it.

Both singers are ICONS! The music of my youth. There's a video of Carole King, Gloria Estefan, Celine Dion and Shania Twain singing, "You've got a friend" and it is powerful IMHO. (1998 I believe) I'd love to see your reaction. I think you'll like it.

You flip a cassette over half-way. For an 8-Track the play head jumps from 1 to 2 to 3 to 4 automatically or with a push of a button. Long time ago - but I still have an 8-track player. Be well.

One of the Greatest songs written from a woman's perspective, about a moment in life that's rarely written about. Covered by tons of great artists: Roberta Flack, Amy Winehouse, Dusty Springfield, Smokey Robinson, among others. Classic and beautiful. Ironic that for a long time Carol King just wrote the songs for others, and never trusted her own beautiful voice. Then she recorded all the great songs she had written on a double album called Tapestry, which became one of the greatest selling albums of the 70s.

Seeing the Broadway play Beautiful the Carole King Story with Jessie Mueller as the lead was just simultaneously heartbreaking and touching. This song was a highlight-and yes that “wondering if I’m the one you’re in love with”? is something that many a woman has wondered. The play was an insight into Carole.

Carole and her writing partner/husband wrote this when she was around 18 or 19. It went to #1 (at a faster tempo)for the great girl group The Shirelles in 1960. It's on the level of "be My Baby" in terms of classic firl group recordings. It was also the first #1 for a black girl group. Check out the video of the Shirelles performing it back in the day.

They've been friends for 50+ years. She wrote some songs that helped launch his career and played in the background when he started touring. Back then she was a prolific songwriter, but not known as a vocalist. James made her get up and sing with him in concert. Not long after that she recorded and released "Tapestry" which holds crazy records for how many weeks it was on the charts and is multiple platinum, and that launched her singing career.

This song was originally performed by the Shirelles in 1960. Carole King was cowriter on it with someone else whose name escapes me now. The Shirelles' version made it sound like the singer was a girl considering surrendering her virginity. Carole sang it differently, making it sound like an older woman wanting to be sure her lover wasn't just considering her a one night stand.

I remember after moving to Idaho, how excited I was to learn that Carole King had a ranch in Stanley, ID. A beautiful mountain area.
I got to see her in Sun Valley and Boise at different functions, hanging out talking to people.
I never heard her sing in person, though.
Being a fellow environmentalist and Democrat, I saw her at events about those things.
I've loved her since Tapestry came out in the 70s. ❤

    And just to continue:

    - & yes, he IS blind - God gave him his voice to compensate evidently

    - the same Andrea & I assume by now that you know who Celine Dion is?
    - okay, others will tell you more later, but just in case it's not mentioned - Celine is Canadian, (as I have been dropping nationalities)

Britt, as great as you are, and you are, you should listen to the original version from the Shirrells in 1960, react to that given the time it first was recorded. There is a deeper meaning you are ignoring😊.

Oh, and check out Leonard Cohen and Julie Felix 'Hey, That's no Way to Say Goodbye': ruclips.net/video/BzgUs3c9QHY/видео.html I am yet to be convinced that two acoustic guitars and two voices have ever combined to better effect.

A beautiful version, but it is a little sleepy for me; she wrote the song, but you really must now listen to the Shirelles hit version in 1961, so Motown!
